Where You Bee?

Where are you?

Is the grammatically correct question.

Talking briefly with a couple OG Hivers recently they mentioned that there isn't much to vote on and their VP is too high. I find it pretty incredible that there are so few people posting when there is potential to earn out there, but I have seen it many times before.

Sure, I am a bit of an outlier because I have been posting for around eight years straight without missing a day, and I am one of the people who likes to write. I also like to earn on what I write, like everyone else. And while it can be hard to get traction, the best time to get the attention of the audience and therefore some voters, is when other people are not writing and posting here - because you stand out more when people want to use their voting power.

And by the way, from memory, the posting volume doesn't go down when the price is at its lowest, it goes down before price goes significantly upward. I assume that part of this is due to when the markets start moving, people's attention turns elsewhere.

But the main and most likely reason for lower post counts at the moment is because it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere and people are on vacations and travelling, or are just too drunk to be able to sit at a keyboard without throwing up.

Let's do a bit of a poll

Let's find out where you are and in the comments section you can add if you think your posting frequency has changed recently. It doesn't matter if it has or hasn't really, just give your insight into what you see on the platform and as my footer says below - you may be rewarded.

Sort:

I am posting everyday, and to my personal standards, I'm posting the best stuff I've ever written. Only a few regulars are reading it. I'd love a bigger audience, for anyone reading your comments.

I'm writing an anthology of speculative fiction stories, book reviews, video game reviews, rambling essays, and reflective pieces about my current reality.

I also post photographic portraiture and ramblings about Art. I'm also doing a weekly analysis into post quality vs reward. There's a lot of content out there each week, and a lot of it is not getting the same reward for effort as some other posts.

I've never been more inspired and productive. If only there was an audience.

I'm writing an anthology of speculative fiction stories, book reviews, video game reviews, rambling essays, and reflective pieces about my current reality.

Do you feel it brings a higher value to your life by reflecting on what you are consuming and thinking?

There's a lot of content out there each week, and a lot of it is not getting the same reward for effort as some other posts.

Should effort be the metric though? Sure, I think shitposts don't deserve much, but effort is something different. Someone can put in a lot of effort and still have a shitpost. Someone else can do something great much more easily. A lot of the time, the difference isn't in the effort, it is in the experience.

I've never been more inspired and productive. If only there was an audience.

Let's see if I can get you a follower or two who like a good post.

@slobberchops @meesterboom @galenkp @azircon

You took the words out of my mouth about effort. I think knowing whether or not something is ready for human consumption is all part of the self-moderation (and to go down another level... dependent on people's frontal lobes, (right) ;)

Regarding shitposts - If I make a shitpost, I do it consciously (and sometimes, it is a thesis) ;) I know we're having multiple discussions across multiple threads, just trying to keep it all in order in my sleep deprived state.

Do you feel it brings a higher value to your life by reflecting on what you are consuming and thinking?

Yes! Just as we "are what we eat" from for a health and fitness perspective. Our creative and media diet very much dictates what we proscribe value to, and how much value we get out of it.

Reward is not my goal or metric.

Mine is interest. I typically write for myself.

Also my other metric is KE. I know Mr. Chops uses the same metric.

KE is not a static number :) Do you have monitoring for users that are changing their KE in one direction or another?

It is a dynamic number. I have access to that dynamic number in real time and I can plot for any user dynamically :)

Full disclosure, because I haven't (at least, I don't think I have) said it to you directly - your KE metric is definitely one of the many reasons I have gone back to powering up everything and changing my posts to 100% power up - because I want more influence long term, and the only way I am prepared to get that is through my writing.

Writing for me, which is for myself :)

I know a lot of people do not like your KE metric, but it is something that is a motivating factor for some people. They just may not articulate it well.

Thank you.

I appreciate your candid response. I know that we engage often and not just in our posts, but in other's too! If I don't like your content and you as a person, I wouldn't do it obviously.

I am glad that a simple ratio or tool can have this much of an impact on people. When I made this I had no idea. However, I am so glad I did and I am glad that people are embracing it and changing their behavior at hive. That was my intent.

I can claim victory now! :)

Yes, it's true.. though there are a few exceptions I do tend to stick to my KE rules quite firmly. Give.. and receive.

I am always game for following someone. I have seen your metrics before and thought I should follow you then but the frighteningly large beard you had worried me somewhat. What if it was alien and had subsumed what had previously been you and I was it's next target? It's easy to laugh off of course but I have been there before.

I shall take a chance this once

Shit, my cover is blown. Step away from the shaving razor.

Edit: Also, when you say metrics, do you refer to the post I made about word count and rewards?

That is something that I will continue in the future, but my passions are broad, varied, and at times, terrifyingly like a ping pong ball. As in, to say, they go everywhere.

Yeah man, I liked that one but I like lots of mad shit as well. 😀😀

My posting frequency has not changed, in fact I post once or twice per day this month and last month as well:

Interestingly for June only 46 people on Hive posted every day or powered up every day and are signed up on HiveBuzz... I know you post every day and a few others do as well and they are not on this list, so there must have been a sign up step or the data is incorrect?

a couple OG Hivers recently they mentioned that there isn't much to vote on and their VP is too high

They must be very picky with content, or if they need to offload their votes I always have posts available :)

Owing to my timezone, I think I miss the "post" everyday by a few minutes each time, but I think I have consistently had posts in a 24-26 hour window for a few weeks now :D

There is only one time.... Hive time.

I've been up since 4AM my time looking for stuff to write comments on. I'll probably have a nap later today. Should be raining heavily for most of the day, so with any luck, that will lull me back into slumber.

Four hours sleep is really not enough.

so there must have been a sign up step or the data is incorrect?

Not sure. I think it is only for the powerup to get on the list. I didn't know about it. :)

I have a few weekly, monthly and yearly badges though:

Some are picky, some you know already :)

Started developing my own website so Hive posts took away my “hive time” but I’m nearly done so will post a couple next week. If jail wasn’t involved there should be an “all of the above” radio button. Now that’s a post I wanna read

Damn it... All of the above. I forgot!

What kind of website is it?

It's a long story. Its called Tipster-Arena and it grew out of this guy from Ireland who posts betting tips every day on his Patreon page. you had to sign up for €20 per month. His tips were terrible and he always backed the favourites. If anyone spoke up they were kicked out of his Patreon page. The best betting tips were in this guys Patreon message board where people would hang out (a bit like Discord) and post their own tips which ended up being much more successful. If these guys got too successful then they would be kicked as well so I went about setting up a social media site a bit like X so users could share tips. The users that sign up and put tips on the page are then ranked by certain criteria such as Tip Win /Loss. Weighted for odds/ engagement etc. So it could turn out that there is a guy who stacks shelves down in the local supermarket who has a better win percentage than the pro tipster with his 100000 following. The top tipsters then get a share of the subscription fees for the platform. I earn from the subs and advertising revenue. Website should be up by end of month but learning curve is massive . Using Cursor as my code editor. Its out of this world.

Damn, that sounds awesome! Best of luck with it mate!

Your title reminded me of that old police joke. One car is stopped and it is obvious that the driver and his friends did some drugs. So the policeman ask:
-How high are you?
And the driver is like:
-Sorry officer, you wanted to say: Hi, HOW ARE YOU!

And yes, I did notice that it is harder to vote as much as before, for some reasons.

That reminded me of a story I read this week from Australia about a guy pulled over for drink driving and he said he hadn't been drinking. His last beer bottle was still on his roof. He was something like 7x over :D

When the price of Hive goes up significantly, there will be things to vote on. Will they be worth it though?

This is debatable, but there are always people who are here writing for fun, with high quality post, and people who write for the money, some need them to survive, some motivated by greed.

Ah I wonder if the poll results are permanent to the blockchain like other elements LOL my vote isn't real.. but it should be a fun thing to look at in 3 or 4 years from now hahaha.

Yeah dude, I'm in the same boat! I've been giving out WAY more 50, 75 and 100% votes because there isn't a massive amount of things to vote on lol. Not that I'm in the trenches like some of y'all are in terms of finding new people and content.. but I've got a decent list of people I follow and interact with, and I'm still finding myself at 92% by the end of my scroll through the feed. Lamesauce! haha

It is interesting though, that these things happen frequently. It is for sure cycles, and ones that you, I and many others that have been around the block for a while have seen time and again. There will be LOTS of people who come crawling back, many of them crying "you are luckier than me, you got lots of Hive for cheap!!!!111" when they come when it's high and then cut and run as soon as there is some shakiness. Pussies, really.

I've been scrolling through "Created" a few times a day. There's a lot of content. I've found maybe three or four new people to follow over the last month or so, but it is yet to be known if they will be consistent.

It is a bit of a slog at times in the new post scroll!

I just need a device that has eye tracking so I don't get arthritis in my middle finger when I scroll new. Not because I am raising my middle finger at the screen.

Come to think of it, can we get arthritis in our eye sockets?!

Ah I wonder if the poll results are permanent to the blockchain like other elements LOL my vote isn't real.. but it should be a fun thing to look at in 3 or 4 years from now hahaha.

I actually don't know :D

I've been giving out WAY more 50, 75 and 100%

Yeah, this is what we were discussing. I have been adding a bit more into comments too.

Pussies, really.

Goodtime Hivers - they will never stay for long.

I feel embaberrased for probably being the least consistent hiver out here, with only 2 posts last year.. Have been traveling on a fulltime job so the screentime was often already too much for me I guess. Freetime was for outdoors.

Now I am back at my parents place (so Jail I guess) And I hope to make more time to write as I am also losing my job soon :) Time wont be an excuse anymore!

(so Jail I guess)

Writing is freedom. It is a walk anywhere you want to go - whether real or not :)

I feel like you didn't give me a lot of options here XD

because like everyone else "it's all about me" XD

I've just been fighting with my new phone. And suddenly I have to get ready for term. And I haven't done a lot of the other stuff I was supposed to be doing. Which is distressingly normal.

[cue eternal internal infernal screaming]

But Ry, I AM the main character! :P

I too, was dissatisfied with the poll options.

In fairness to him there's not many options for boring people like me, and I guess you're a different kind of exciting which wasn't covered this time round XD

Wait, you're not in a prison (of your flesh?)

I don't consider it a prison because it (currently) does (most of) what I want it to. I'd probably feel differently if it didn't x_x

I'm less sure about one of my copilots (some part of the brain) sometimes though XD

Careful with the word copilot - Microsoft may want to patent you! Or worse yet, deploy you to the Azure cloud!

In revenge I would somehow find some way to make myself undeletable/replicable and then I would pollute/poison the crap out of CoPilot and then escape into the internet and probably be very peeved about being an AI XD

I like to think I'd at least be able to get 3d stuff done quicker but I'd be seeing it very differently so I don't know if that would work out.

I would like an option for people to be able to add "other" in there :)
(perhaps with an option to remove too)

I guess that's just the comments gallery :)

Only if it's their own "other", I feel like being able to remove anything would lead to some chaos and carnage which may be an interesting experiment in itself.

Actually I remember a really long time ago someone saying that they wanted to run an experiment where they had this open forum where anyone basically had some level of admin/moderator privileges and could edit and delete any post at will and whether it would actually be chaos and carnage or if people would actually not be dickheads.

I seem to remember there was some discussion about whether or not having some kind of edit history visible would moderate behaviour (I just don't know whether that discussion was related to that idea).

Sadly I don't think the person who came up with the idea actually ran that experiment.

I vaguely remember there being one here too where someone made some account and posted the posting key publicly for it to see what if anything people would post if they could post randomly/anonymously.

I feel like you didn't give me a lot of options here XD

What?! I had you specifically in mind for all of them! :D

[cue eternal internal infernal screaming]

This reminded me of this:

Not my thing, but she has a voice on her!

Good luck getting your shit together for the start of term :)

I was like "metal" (which I'm extremely fussy about) as soon as it started but obviously had to wait til the screaming and not quite that but not far off XD

also my voice isn't in the same universe as that

Thanks I actually need it x_x I ended up going to bed late again (I was trying very hard to go to bed earlier as I've been going to bed way too late again, but at least I slept in til really late I guess x_x) but I did manage to get the stuff I actually needed to take into the first class done so that's ready to go, I just need to try and copy the lesson plan into the templates to send to the boss before the first class ideally but at least before the end of the week x_x

If you are set to routine how can you not post as you will find time to post. When I was travelling back in February it was actually far easier to post daily as you had content at your finger tips. I do not get it when people skip days at a time as once you are in a groove of consistency it seems harder to break away.

Skipping days is fine - but people skip months :D I think that routine is vital and I wonder what other routines they have in their lives.

I chose, "in jail." Might as well be honest right?

They give us computers and it's all good because I'll be out in 25-40 years.

I'd like some more posts to vote up, have resorted to dropping big comment votes instead, but only on people I know well...gotta watch out for comment farmers.

Three meals a day for free - best way to combat cost of living crises.

It makes so much sense.

I have a post dropping late tonight you will find very funny. Not the fence post type of post, the HIVE sort of post. I hope you read the whole thing. I'll leave ya in suspense as to what it is, I am still editing it.

I'll check it out when it goes live.

Where they bee? The correct is 'where are they?' (the og hivers direct them to me) 🫣😉

I am sure you will get more og hivers reference😆.
I am a regular user on hive too, posting regularly. No matter if the price is low or high. No matter if any big votes comes my way or not. It's been 8 years, I kept on sharing , but sometime, I lack the engagement, due to some brain fade or stress. Recently I changed my posting frequency from 2 posts a day to 1, unable to get much traction on 2nd post, so better to be in limit. "A post a day, keeps the stress away."

:D

Yeah. Two is the max for me now. I used to be able to write a lot more (and I probably could now if I pushed it) but I want to be a bit more focused in my energy :)

"A post a day, keeps the stress away."

And perhaps the psychologist away too.

I must say that this is a thoughtful post. Honestly, my own posting hasn’t reduced; I still try to stay consistent. But I’ve noticed that some users I used to engage with regularly aren’t as active anymore. It’s been a bit quiet from their end, and the back-and-forth we used to have dropped drastically. I get that people are busy or maybe on summer break like you said, but it’s interesting how noticeable the shift is.

Still, like you said, it might be a good time for others to show up and stand out. With fewer posts, those who remain active have a better chance of getting noticed and appreciated. Hopefully, things pick up again soon, but in the meantime, it's a chance for consistent voices to shine.

You do seem to post regularly and I think that you put in effort and think a bit longer term. Have you ever looked at the KE ratio of the people you engaged with but they disappeared? Often, it isn't good.

Things will pick up. Even if they don't, it is all fun :)

I haven't done the KE ratio of a thing before. I would love it if you could enlighten me on how to go about it.

It is easy. It essentially tells you if a person is taking out more than they have earned - there are many reasons for it and the like, but it is worth a look.

If you use peakd:

image.png

Yours is great. Lower the better. Anything under three is considered okay :)

Thanks so much for this. I'm so grateful and also for the support at all times. I don't take it for granted.

I'm pretty consistent about posting and I feel that my stuff is pretty high quality, but I know it probably doesn't appeal to everyone. I don't really want to back myself into a niche though because like you a lot of the reason I write is simply for myself.

Write for yourself, that's what I do! When I write something that appeals to someone else, and I do get that genuine engagement, it makes it all the more nicer!

I think this is what everyone should do. Too many make shit up for the audience, and it comes across as inauthentic. They should instead find what interests them, and then see if they can make it interesting for others too. If not, no harm no foul :)

For sure!

Yeah - niche sucks as it ends up being repetitive. All said before. However, if you live a rich enough life, content is easy :)

Well, I have stopped posting for two months as it seemed not to be worth spending time/effort. Now I only do manuel curation and commentting. Perhaps, that's why some members also have stopped posting. If things change on HIVE such as fair vote distribution, HIVE might be as active as the old days.

What would make it worth the effort?

I don't think vote distribution will ever be "fair" for everyone - because fair is indefinable and everyone has a different opinion on it. I have given up on anything in life being fair from a human perspective.

Hi there. I know it probably seems silly to say that one could get a bit overwhelmed with life. That is where I have been. I had planned to start writing here again, however, life likes throwing all kinds of things at you to tackle. They then take over your silly plans of blissfully painting on the pile of canvases you have been collecting for a good while, or writing about your garden that you so love and give so much care to. I dunno. I wish it was as easy for me as it is for others to create and write. It isn't though. I need more chill environment to do that.

I’ve only had two beers (so far) but the night is young, so drunk gets the vote.

Sadly, I don’t think there’s a big demand for overweight old-guy amateur porn. A niche market, I suppose.

A niche market, I suppose.

It is the in the niche where all the real money is made. People love an exclusive outlier!

I am working harder than usual here, even posting twice a day with some 12 hours between each post. Oficially, I am on vacation if we look to my university work card, but I keep myself delivering here to be able to catch up with growing inflation in Cuba, for my family.

At the same time, I try to produce some pages daily for my doctoral research, which the committee expects for September, although I am putting more effort and focus in the blockchain because of the economy.

So, no time for actual vacation for now, just work. However, the people I follow here are showing up as usual as well.

   Best regards from the Island.

Hmmm - Is it better to get your research done, or post here?

I truly wish I could have my research ready by the deadline my doctoral committee is demanding, and I haven't given up on that goal. But the context—rampant inflation, having children, and so on—forces me to prioritize earning income. Earning a PhD in Cuba is an intellectual milestone, not an economic one. When I devote myself body and soul to the research (which I deeply enjoy, by the way), managing family logistics becomes overwhelmingly difficult. Fortunately, what I do on Hive doesn't displease me, since I write about topics I'm passionate about.

For me, it is being challenging to write daily on HIVE. There are many things that take away my peace, Mr. Tarazkp, but writing allows me to build new dreams with more peace, I intuition it and whoever listens to it, gets his freedom. Therefore, writing in Hive brings to my life, a daily and challenging learning, I keep learning from my friends who have more experience and more years than me in Hive.

I believe that learning is one of the most beautiful things in life, even with trips and falls, trial and error.

By the way, I'm still working hard, except in prison. I think all the survey items are activated at some point.Ahhh I love electronic music But I wouldn't be in Belgium, But if in my city

Writing is not just an escape, it is a way to process the volatility of life and sort through it, so today's problems have a solution tomorrow.

Mr. Tarazkp, you take advantage of the time to learn, when we write and when this is so, when the soul understands, even what you sow without realizing it blooms.

I belong to the WORKING HARD category! Hahaha. Maybe not.

I used to write almost everyday, these days I am averaging 4 to 5 posts per week. Life got busier and I just had to rebalance stuff a little.

Is it better busy, or worse busy? Hopefully it is good!

I would say worse busy actually. Work is work after all - I find hard to find joy amidst all the office politics and tight deadlines. But we all adapt and find our ways to manage over time.

I was lying - but I wished to be in Belgium for a good rave party plus being drunk - sadly i have to deal with not too nice things in my professional life

sadly i have to deal with not too nice things in my professional life

Hopefully things get better. Or you win the lottery!

The rave in Belgium looked pretty awesome.

no lottery plans though - at a certain age it becomes more difficult to find sth better than before especially when you had perfect performance but stop the topic now

Happened to me at the end of last year. It fucking sucks. Good luck mate.

thx dude - especially sucks if you hear no official reasons (which I can assume of course - money) - but I have a good lawyer and they offered me sth /but oh well....)

I try to always have 2 active posts going. Currently I only have 1 active post.
So I guess I feel busy and a bit life distracted, so that leaves me slightly below my goal of 2 posts a week.
But life ebbs and flows, so all good

There are ebbs and flows for sure. I go through them also depending on what is happening in life. I would love two a day, but it isn't always possible. It is time more than anything else.

I've only been posting two articles per week since I only started in May. I'm passionate about writing , but I need to get ideas flow faster , so I can post more.

I would very much rather read high quality twice a week than drivel every day of the week, from a personal perspective. Some people have the dedication and wit to be high-quality near constantly, but some people can end up burnt out.

Publish when the work is ready, not just to get something out!

People set the bar too high on themselves though. Quality is obviously good, but some try to make every post a thesis of some sort. Exploring daily life brings more value than a doctoral dissertation on something useless.

I feel personally attacked ;) Did you not read my thesis on Florence and the Machine and Ferarri? It isn't a doctoral dissertation, but don't threaten a man who has too much free time! :P

Thanks for this— I truly appreciate it. Being new to this platform is both exciting and overwhelming . I'm passionate about writing , and while that brings me joy , I often find myself torn between pursuing results , and simply enjoying writing.
This is an eye-open for me , and I take this to heart.

Enjoy the writing, it is therapeutic, in most circumstances. For example... I just wrote a two page cover letter for a job application, and that wasn't very therapeutic at all.

I'm off to go do some more of the therapeutic kind now.

Have a great day! Thank you for the pieces of advice.

The trick to writing more, is to writ e more! :D Really though - most people consume too much and it kills creativity, and takes away the opportunity to live.

Yeah! Perhaps, I have to find something that works for me to enjoy writing more. Thanks a lot.

Took a bit of a break from everything except work. Back now and trying to rebuild if possible.

In other news, your consistency over the years is nothing short of remarkable

You okay?

Much Better now. I certainly have a deeper appreciation for those who go through certain personal struggles.

A large part of the problem, from my years of being on here, is not many will pick of the full tab to make the vote count and you end up having to split the tab with them using dustsweeper to pick up the rest.

Dusts votes no longer matter and haven't for many years. All votes count.

Why does dustsweepers keep saving my dust?

I started posting a bit more lately, mostly splinterlands, but my last one was crypto related from something that caught my eye in the news feed.

Thank you for filling my feed with stuff that makes sense ;)

Thanks mate, I am aiming for entertaining, funny with a healthy pinch of sarcasm. (for anyone who cares to click through to my profile)

Well my latest post is absolute raving lunacy, I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I wrote it. :D

I think it is worth writing more just to better understand personal interests.

My posting frequency hasn't changed. I post 2-3 times a month. My income is small, $1-2 a month. But I started earning more than HBD, about 500, and I plan to reach 750 HBD a month.

That is not bad!

Yes, most people are on vacation right now. They don't think it's right to write about it when they can enjoy it. They'll take enough photos during their vacation and share them with us later.

I've never been on vacation myself. I had to reduce my hive activity because of renovations at home. The renovations were finished, and I returned.

They don't think it's right to write about it when they can enjoy it.

When I am away on vacation, I like ending the day writing to review and reflect on what I have done. I find it makes it more valuable for me.

What renovations were you doing? People are often interested in those kinds of things :)

The master is doing the renovations. I'm helping him. He's doing a renovation on the insulation of the house.

OG Hivers with high VP? Time to ramp up the content! 🚀 Let's get those votes flowing!

:D

That's the spirit!

I wish I was able to vote on more than one of the options of that poll hahaha. I've been working really hard lately and, despite I've been able to get drunk, seems like I'm not going to have chill vacations. Anyways, because all of that work I wasn't able to post in a time that for me seemed too long. Now I'm trying to get along with my habit of writing everyday. Thanks for bringing this topic!

Ah - I should have added more than one vote. Sometimes it is a good thing to do - sometimes it is not. This would have been good for three :)

Vacation for me since I am a school teacher. But I was still able to post every single day by doing my @actifit reports while at a 6-day camping festival in Canada along the Salmo River.

I like making my daily actifit reports. It's one part fitness accountability and one part self-journaling. At least it gives me a simple framework for posting every day through the app, even if it might make my posts a little bit limited in visibility and reach. I find the content is a bit more for me than for the general public.

One part of Hive I want to be much more consistent with is posting about Splinterlands to make use of the twice weekly upvotes available for meeting their social media and engagement challenges. So far, I'm really only consistent with posting my weekly report cards to track my SPS earnings and account growth.

Sorry. None of the above.

Working and analyzing data. Both hive related, and oil and gas related :)
