My entry for this week for #MarketFriday is our ramen experience at Gohan. You can check out my previous post about this food alley Enjoying Laksa and Sushi at a food alley where we had an unplanned visit but a pleasant experience enjoying a Laksa. This time, we went Japanese.
Before moving on, please read @dswigle's latest post Burnside Farms Flowers of the Sun: Market Friday to know more about the guidelines if you want to post about #MarketFriday.
The first time we visited the food alley, we initially wanted to try ramen but it was unavailable that time that's why we ended up with Laksa which was still okay because we did enjoy it.
It was not again our intention to eat in this place because we were headed towards another place to eat but en route, we passed by this food alley so we decided then to stop there instead and take our lunch there. Luckily, their spicy pork ramen is available.
I didn't want to raise my expectations so high for I might end up disappointed again. For the ramens that I have eaten before, it's not something that my palate would be craving for. Still, I keep trying different places. While it is not that bad, it's not that good either. There are good points about ramen still. There are lots of places now that are opening up and serving ramen and hopefully I can try them all and find the right one.
For now, let's try Gohan. This is one of the two food shops there and this is the only shop that serves Japanese cuisine.
We not only ordered ramen but also Cali Mango Sushi which is what we ordered last time. It's buy one, take one still same as last time at PHP180.00 (USD3.22). We did like that so we settled for that. This order of ours was served first. We did not eat it right away for I want to take photos of it with the ramen. It didn't take long for the ramen to arrive after that.
I do appreciate how the overall presentation looked like. The ramen is topped with a slice of boiled egg, two fish cakes, minced grilled pork, a leaf of bok choy, some seaweed, two films of nori, some leeks and sprinkled with sesame seed. The soup is not that red but once you mix everything, the redness comes from the meat. I think it was marinated in chili paste or something. You can also taste some creaminess in there. The seasoning is just right and also the saltiness. The milkiness/creaminess of the soup makes you get tired of the taste. I do like how the noddle was cooked. Not to soggy but not undercooked either.
For a price of PHP220.00 (USD 3.94) per bowl, it is okay. It is fulfilling enough but there is something that makes you craving for more, leaving you unsatisfied. Of all the ramens that I have tasted, this tops my list still in terms of price, taste and quantity.
One ramen house down, a hundred more to go.

Never tried Japeneses food. But it looks yummy. But I am reminded of Dragon Ball because of the name of the store. 😝... Nakakanostalgia tuloy 🤓
Haha! Un din naisip ko agad. Akala ko nga may mga Dragonball Z characters pero wala hehe.
Nakakapanglaway Naman Ito huhu. Sana all may ramen hehe
Parang mas masarap pa un instant hehe.
Seryoso?
Spicy ramen is so good, uncle Arif 😍
Perfect for cold rainy days like today.
Yes, I like it a lot 😍
I like Ramen but I never eat it here, there are very few places where you can have it. And those that sell it tend to be expensive. Between 12 and 15 dollars for a bowl of Ramen.
The one you ate, at least in the photo, looks delicious.
Oh my. That's really expensive. Maybe if you make your own for that amount you can feed more than just one.
For sure, if I make it, it will be cheaper. Have a great day Kuboy :)
Be sure to have some for me lol! Have a good one too :)
Haha! I will lol :)
Ha! I have to agree with you. I thought I was the only person in the world that thought that ramen was just okay. To me, I have never found any that was better than that. Wait! One, but, it was not here in the States. I actually think it was in Asia. Somewhere in Asia. I should have remembered that! Can't believe I don't!
The ramen was presented really nice, I like the little extras they do to make it look more appetizing! I have to give it to this place! It wins in my book, just for that! The sushi looked nice (again!) I will say the red sauce kind of reminded me of the Korean ramen, which sometimes has a red soup/sauce. It is not my favorite as I think that one is a little bit saltier (and not in a good way) This one is not as red and not Korean, so I am not comparing, so you know! :)
Glad to hear that you may have found a passable one!!!! May I ask why you are on a mission to find one? I have almost given up and feel like I can probably live, even without the aid of ramen! I know! I am odd!!! Good luck! You have a lot more to go!!! Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

I have always been interested with Japan and of course ramen, which they are also known for. With all that I know about Japan, it is a let down that ramen does not taste that good - as far as what I have tasted so far. I guess I set my expectations too high. That's why the quest for great ramen is still on :D
Now this is the real deal, I’ve only non-authentic ramen. Man, this looks great too, and the sushis!
Not sure if this is how an authentic ramen would be though :D
Gotta visit Japan one day for the true experience.
One day I will visit Japan :D
Yeah, one day.
OMG, ramen. Haven't try the real ramen sa totoo lanf. And even if I can't taste it talaga still I want to try pa rin. Sana soon, huehue
Tara mag ramen tayo libre ko hahaha!
