This is my MarketFridaychallenge organized by @dswigle.

To market, to market to buy a big Fish...
A warm evening greetings to you all. I trust you all doing fine...
My Friday market experience was awesome..I went to the market to buy some fish, one interesting thing about our local Market is about the types of Fishes sold there.. Let's take them one after the other;

  1. English name; Mackerel
    Local Name; awere nwere
    This fish is usually preferred on our community because it is believed to give the meal a unique taste. It could either be sold fresh or smoked..

  1. This fish falls under the group of smoked sole fish but it is called "ukpek".. smoked sole fishes are usually highly nutritious and mostly used on the preparation of traditional meals like ekpang nkukwo, ato mboro, melon soup, Afang soup and the likes..

  1. This is also a Sea food and it is called "obu" in my dialect but generally called Crayfish.. Trust me, you can't think of a good meal without including this. Some people sell the fresh ones but for me, I prefer the already prepared and dried one..

  1. Lastly, I got Perewinkle which is called "mfi" in my dialect. Very little but essential in blood boosting. Usually sold on our local market with the use of tomato tins for measurements..

You have quite interesting market there, although I have to admit some of those things I wouldn't even dare to try, that strange they appear to me.
But that's how it is in this world, each part of it has it's own peculiarities that in some other part maybe even doesn't exist.

Exactly, those perculiarities makes is eager to learn and see other people's culture..
Thanks for stopping by 😊

I enjoyed seeing your market, this is what our mackerel look like. image.png

They do a lot of smoking with their seafood, but, I am guessing that preserves its freshness for a longer period of time. I have a smoker at home and although I use it, I still prefer making it fresh. Most everyone in my house prefers smoked. I lose! I get periwinkles in the shallow waters of the ocean, or sometimes when we dive. I have never bought them here, but, I know they must sell them. If it swims for a living, I usually love it. The mackerel is a lot smaller than what I am used to, but, we fish for them way offshore in the deepwater part of the ocean.

I find it really interesting, the different ways and the various cultures. I really appreciate you naming the names of everything. It made it a really good post with all this information! Thank you!

It is people like yourself that make this challenge successful! I absolutely depend on people to show off their different ways. In some ways, we are very much alike, other ways, so very different.
