Greetings animal lovers. On Saturday I told you about the first day of rescuing a dog that was in very bad shape on the street and that ir was possible to do it thanks to the help of some friends. That rescue was on August 2 and those who could read my post will know that I named the dog Dylan. In today's post I bring you Dylan's progress since it's been fourteen days since we rescued him.
He tenido que organizarme para poder ir todos los días a la clínica veterinaria para estar pendiente que le pasen su tratamiento, llevarle comida extra y limpiar su canil, sin embargo, es una gran satisfacción ver que Dylan va mejorando cada día, eso me hace recordar el por qué hago esto y que todo tiene sentido cuando se trata de ayudar a los que no tienen voz para pedir ayuda 🥺.
I have had to organize my schedule to be able to go to the veterinary clinic every day to watch for his treatment, bring him extra food and clean his kennel, however, it's a great satisfaction to see that Dylan is improving every day, that's what reminds me why I do this and that everything makes sense when it comes to helping those who don't have a voice to ask for help 🥺.
Día 2:
El segundo día mi hermana me acompañó al veterinario para ayudarme a bañar a Dylan porque estaba sucio y olía mal, pero sobretodo porque un baño hace sentir mejor a cualquiera 😁, no lo hicimos el primer día para dejarlo descansar. Él casi no tiene pelo pero al parecer alguien le echó aceite quemado de autos, algo que algunas personas suelen hacer cuando ven a un perro con sarna porque piensan que eso les ayuda a sanar 😒🤦🏻♀️, bueno, le dimos dos manos de champú y lo dejamos que se quedara en el sol para que se secara.
Day 2:
The second day my sister accompanied me to the vet to help me bathe Dylan because he was dirty and he smelled bad, but especially because a bath makes anyone feel better 😁, we didn't do it the first day to let him rest. He has almost no hair but apparently someone poured burnt car oil on him, something some people do when they see a dog with mange because they think it helps them heal 😒🤦🏻♀️, well, we gave him two hands of shampoo and let him sit in the sun to dry.
Obviamente que al estar en ese mal estado, el veterinario le mandó a hacer los exámenes de sangre, hematología completa y química sanguínea (glicemia, urea, creatinina y transaminasas) y también se le mandó a hacer el despiste de erlichiosis (anaplasma), el tratamiento a seguir en los próximos días dependería de los resultados. Ese día sólo le curaron la oreja y le tomaron la muestra de sangre para llevarla al laboratorio, Dylan se portó muy bien 👍😊.
Obviously, since he was in such poor condition, the veterinarian ordered him to do blood tests, complete hematology and blood chemistry (glycemia, urea, creatinine and transaminases) and he also ordered to screen for erlichiosis (anaplasma), the treatment to follow in the next few days would depend on the results. That day they only healed his ear and took a blood sample to take it to the laboratory, Dylan behaved very well 👍😊.
Día 3:
El tercer día Dylan se veía más animado y se comió la ración de perrarina que le dí, en la clínica también les dan su perrarina pero como él está un poquito desnutrido yo le estoy trayendo comida extra para que suba de peso. Él pesa 14,800 kilos y para su tamaño debería pesar por lo menos 18.

On the third day Dylan seemed more animated and he ate the portion of dog food that I gave him, at the clinic they also give them dog food but since he is a little malnourished I am bringing him extra food so that he can gain weight. He weighs 14,800 kilos and for his size he should weigh at least 18.
Llegaron los resultados de los exámenes de sangre, los doctores quedaron bastante sorprendidos porque a pesar de su aspecto, la desnutrición y la sarna que tiene, en general salió bien. Si bien salió positivo en anaplasma, o sea, tiene erlichiosis, su hemoglobina está en 10 y su química sanguínea, a excepción de la glicemia que está un poco baja, luce bien para un perro que estaba en la calle.
The results of the blood tests arrived, the doctors were quite surprised because despite his appearance, the malnutrition and the mange he has, in general he turned out well. Although he tested positive for anaplasma, that is, he has erlichiosis, his hemoglobin is at 10 and his blood chemistry, except for the glycemia that is a little low, looks good for a dog that was on the street.
Luego de analizar el resultado de los exámenes el tratamiento a seguir será la aplicación vía intravenosa durante diez días de Oxitepal (antibiótico) y Eritrogen (antianémico y estimulante). Casualmente, yo tengo estas medicinas porque las había comprado para los otros dos perros que había rescatado hace dos años y que estaban en el mismo estado que Dylan, bueno, en realidad bastante peor que él 😞.
After analyzing the results of the tests, the treatment to follow will be the intravenous application of Oxitepal (antibiotic) and Eritrogen (anti-anemic and stimulant) for ten days. Coincidentally, I have these medicines because I had bought them for the other two dogs that I had rescued two years ago and who were in the same condition as Dylan, well, actually much worse than him 😞.

El cuarto día de su rescate y segundo de su tratamiento intravenoso Dylan estaba con más confianza y ánimo. Se comió toda la comida que le llevé y se portó muy bien cuando le tomaron la vena para pasarle el tratamiento.

Cuando llegué el sexto día y Dylan me vio, movió la cola y ladró para que le abriera el canil, eso me alegró mucho porque ya se nota que el tratamiento lo está haciendo sentir mejor.

When I arrived on the sixth day and Dylan saw me, he wagged his tail and barked for me to open his kennel, that made me very happy because you can already tell that the treatment is making him feel better.
Día 7:
Es increíble lo rápido que los perros rescatados se adaptan a su nueva realidad, el simple hecho de poder dormir tranquilamente sin tener que estar buscando un lugar donde no los molesten o no se mojen con la lluvia hace que ellos mejoren porque el buen descanso acelera la recuperación.

It's amazing how quickly rescued dogs adapt to their new reality, the simple fact of being able to sleep peacefully without having to look for a place where they don't be bother or don't get wet in the rain makes them get better because good rest speeds up recovery.
Día 8:
No sé si este perro fue alguna vez de alguien, si tuvo familia y si tenía su propio nombre, yo le puse Dylan y tengo que decirles que desde ayer me hace caso cada vez que lo llamo por su nombre 😁.

I don't know if this dog ever belonged to someone, if he had a family and if he had his own name, I named him Dylan and I have to tell you that since yesterday he listens to me every time I call him by his name 😁.
Estoy muy contenta por cómo Dylan está evolucionando y de ver que estamos haciendo todo lo que podemos para ayudarlo a estar cada día mejor y más sano. Este proceso está apenas empezando, si bien ya está más animado, confiado y subiendo de peso, en lo que respecta a su pelaje, eso tardará un poco más así que hay que tener paciencia. Mientras todo esto va sucediendo tengo que ir buscando un lugar donde pueda estar resguardado hasta que le crezca todo el pelo y su oreja esté totalmente curada ya que en la clínica veterinaria nos dijeron que podía estar hasta el viernes 11 de agosto 🥺😕☹️😫 (esta fecha ya pasó, pero en el próximo post les contaré qué sucedió).
I'm very happy with how Dylan is evolving and to see that we are doing everything we can to help him be better and healthier every day. This process is just beginning, although he is already more animated, confident and gaining weight, as far as his fur is concerned, that will take a little longer so we have to be patient. While all this is happening, I have to go looking for a place where he can be safe until all his hair grows back and his ear is completely healed, since the veterinary clinic told us that he could stay until Friday, August 11 🥺😕☹️😫 (this date already passed, but in the next post I'll tell you what happened).
Esto es lo que más me preocupa porque de no conseguir ese lugar, tendremos que dejarlo nuevamente en la calle 🥺😥 y estar pendientes de darle comida y de su bienestar pero, ¿Cómo puede seguir mejorando un perro si tiene que regresar a la calle? 🥺☹️ No se imaginan lo duro que es tener que lidiar con ese pensamiento 😞.
This is what worries me the most because if we don't get that place, we'll have to put him back on the street 🥺😥 and be aware of giving him food and his well-being, but how can a dog continue to improve if he has to return to the street? 🥺☹️ You can't imagine how hard it's to have to deal with that thought 😞.

Así es, rescatar es un proceso de varias etapas, él ya ha progresado mucho en su recuperación, ahora nos estamos moviendo para conseguir un hogar temporal donde lo puedan tener hasta que le salga todo el pelo ya que hasta el miércoles pueden tenerlo en la clínica veterinaria donde lo tenemos resguardado.

Wow, Dylan is a fighter! His progress is amazing. I´m sure he will soon fully heal, be a handsome doggie again and get adopted by someone! Fingers crossed guys!

A true and very enthusiastic warrior 💪🏻👊 he's happy and getting better every day. Now we urgently need to get him a temporary home before Wednesday where he can stay until all his hair grows back. It hasn't been easy to find one 😔🥺😕.

Stray dogs on the streets never cope as well as cats, our vet clinics automatically neuter the animals that come, a small donation by community to assist normally helps.
Homing dogs to the right people another problem when most are battling to put food on the family table, sad so many take in animals then abandon them.

That's so good you have that neuter program, it's very important to do it because it's difficult to find responsible homes for all the little dogs and kittens that born, they also organize free and low-cost sterilization days here, but more is needed, especially in smaller towns and cities.

We suffer similar problem with dogs and cats, SPCA is reliant on donations with no government assistance, local residents try educate people on how to look after pets.
Never ending battle to assist animals who cannot talk for themselves, communities do the best they are able in helping with Veterinary cost and food.
That's true, it's not easy to educate people about responsible ownership, which includes feeding, vaccination, sterilization and commitment.
Here is a state institution that has several permanent offices in the main cities of the country and that is in charge of caring for animals free of charge through vaccination, deworming, sterilization and adoption days. Unfortunately, more journeys are needed to reach the smaller towns and cities.
