Hands-On Starts Early

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share some fun pictures of our son doing what he loves most: building things!

Our son has so much fun playing with things most kids we know don't really care much about. He is happy as a clam if he gets a bunch of tools and wood to play with. You should see him when he first got some raw pieces of wood from my DIY stash. He made things on the floor for about a week. Every single day since then he plays with the wood at least once a day, often more, to make train tracks or something else. It's really special!

So in my other post, I shared the build process of our awesome toy box! What I saved was some great pictures from that event for this post here, to share with my Home Edders friends! :D

So if you've seen my posts in here, you know that our son loves being all up in the mix of whatever we are doing, rightfully so because he's an explorative kind of kid. He is always trying to learn things or do things differently so he was absolutely on board with helping me.

He needed to have his own set of pieces of wood to try and get them bolted in, screws and the other various tools of the trade!

So I was trying to iterate to him the importance of doing things the right way. It takes longer and more effort in the beginning but in the end, it ends up costing you less. Short cuts aren't the way to do things in some aspects of life, building things is absolutely one of them! He was helping me put things together and was always curious as to why I was doing it a certain way. For example, the first wooden wall was bowed outwards a little bit because the wood was warped. I showed him this and told him we needed to fix it because it was safer for him to do that instead of leaving it like that because it will eventually break. I additionally showed him that you need to properly support your structures with whatever you are doing. The extent I strengthened the toy box was beyond what would be available in other settings but that's perfectly fine, it will last longer!

He was trying to get his blocks in the right spot to get them secured properly!

He was also a great helper for me. He helped hold the boards in the place I needed them (at a safe distance to his hands and fingers of course). We just finished screwing this side board in here, he helped hold it from the top so it wouldn't wiggle!

Ahh cute! XD

And good thing you reinforced the hell out of it, if your kid is anything like mine were, they're usually inside the toy boxes themselves XD Wouldn't have minded a good strong one like the one you're making but we're not so handy :)

Thanks! Sorry bit crazy at home this week, got new furniture and I set it up but had to take it apart because I didn't follow the (incorrect) directions lol

I needed to make one that was pretty sturdy because our son is excellent at breaking things completely apart lol. We can't have nice things in the house within his reach otherwise it gets broken. Part of being a young boy though I guess. He has turned it into his house though haha. It thankfully has filled with his toys and stuff for the past 2 days but for the first week it was his house and hiding spot. When we get rid of the Christmas tree I think I'm going to build him a house similar to this in the living room lol. These things keep him entertained in the small place we live in so we do what we can.

A carpenter in training is a valuable and fulfilling path! Parenting win.

I also noticed your excellent Presearch endorsement. A partner of our marketing company @town-crier is run by Colin (founder of Presearch.) Fantastic guy and I will post a report when I have a beer with him and ask him about his perspective.

Cheers!

Thanks for checking it out! I agree, it’s important to show him training and stuff like this at an early age. That will give him exposure to all kinds of different things for when he’s older and finds what he likes to do himself.

Appreciate you dropping a line about presearch! That’s the second longest crypto project I’ve supported besides hive here. I learned about it way back in the day on steem from someone and haven’t looked back since! I may not hold a neck of a lot of tokens but it’s just shy of 2k now and that’s purely from searching lol and 2 referrals that have used it as well. I’ll keep using it as long as they keep it going! Competition for these giant companies is the best thing we can have.

My only annoyance with the service is when using their search engine, DSearch, it opens a new window whenever you click on a link. I highly dislike that lol but not enough to stop using it.

Yah!

I was going to ask Colin about that but I suspect it is to differentiate between Presearch (rewards) and Dsearch (no rewards!) The context is pretty neat because we are partners in a shop-local digital marketing platform which has a lot to do with search engine optimization. Tokenizing searches in the context of digital marketing is SO next gen and a little more turn-key while so many blockchains just pitch up the core and don't back it up with supporting/feeding/consuming mechanisms.

I will get to the bottom of it from a #hive perspective and fill you in.

Thanks, sounds good!

I definitely think keyword staking, the feature they rolled out in January (I think?) will absolutely revolutionize the way we do searches and advertisements on engines. I love the fact that they show what the top amount of the token currently being paid for the particular search is. Want to top it? Buy more and you can do just that! I haven’t looked into it since I attempted to Stake on the PeakD term and failed but I am going to once I get more tokens and can make an effective stake lol

Just being together as parent and child is the best opportunity to pass on information and engage in life. Thanks for sharing about your son's passion to build. And thank you for being a great example as a parent to allow him to grow in that way.

Thanks for checking it out! I try but lately there’s been some pretty crazy hormone changes in him so he’s very angry and it’s difficult to deal with. We are coping through it lol but not too easily!

One of the things he absolutely loves doing is building stuff. Great for me because I do too lol so I get a partner while doing all of it. Building the furniture these past few days he’s been right there with me so that’s been fun. He’s hard headed though, when I ask him not to do something or tell him no it takes 3 or 4 times before it sinks in. Gets challenging the more it happens..

What a cute little capenter you got there. There really is a lot of opportunities for teaching and learning. Not just the lessons about how to build things but also the important values kids need to learn.

I love teaching our son as much as I can about things like this so that one day I can have him help me build stuff together that it a lot bigger. What he needs to work on is following when I tell him not to do something lol challenging but sometimes it’s dangerous and he doesn’t understand. I’m trying desperately not to end up at the emergency room lol

Thanks for stopping by :) what are you doing for Christmas with your family? I've been trying to keep up with a bunch of things so I haven't been able to check on everyone here!

Hahaha OMG 😁

Here at home everything is ok but quite. Christmas and new year for us will be a little sad. My uncle, cousin and sisters are not here in Venezuela and we used to spend this month sharing with them. SO... 😞
