The Brit List: February 2026

in Hive Statistics3 months ago

Introduction

I started compiling these lists in December 2020 to continue something @pennsif used to do as I think it helps bring the community together. Since then I have found lots more people to include. @HiveSQL has been really useful for this and I use Python for my scripts. Some of the post is manual as I like to include some commentary and I will keep tweaking it. I am open to suggestions for improvements. I aim to do a fresh list on the first Saturday of each month.

Logo by @barge

I also rely on the community to let me know of more people to include who may not have obvious account metadata. You can find me in the @teamuksupport Discord to discuss it or drop me a comment.

The #teamuk tag has been used to show you are in the UK and was earning extra votes from a bot, but that has not been active lately. Using the tag may still help me to find you, but please contact me if you think you should be on the list.

The list will include anyone living in the UK as well as Brits who have moved abroad. Inclusion on this list does not mean I recommend people, but I will remove accounts if they are known to be abusing Hive or are falsely reporting their location. I can also remove anyone who asks me to. If you have lost control of your account through phishing or other means then let me know so that I can update your entry. There is the option to be counted without being tagged on these posts if you want that.

The code to produce this post is on Github. People are welcome to use it for their own regional version. I can help you with that if necessary.

Previous editions

What it means

The numbers above are for those who had posted or commented in the previous month. In the lists below I break each region into three lists:

  • Active as above.
  • Just voting. I will guess that a lot of these use automatic votes, e.g. HiveVote. Previously there were some that appear to have been compromised as they vote for known abusers. Those are now excluded until I hear that they have recovered control.
  • Inactive in the last month, but most have done something since Hive started. We can hope to bring them back.

I want to count people rather than accounts as some have several. I can include those in brackets if you want. Let me know if you want me to update your listing. You can be as specific as you like about your location. Otherwise I will use what is on your profile or what I am told or can deduce from your posts.

Other Countries

I have produced similar lists for the following countries. Active numbers are from the last time I ran them. These have used simpler queries than what I use for the UK, so they are likely to miss people. What it needs is for local communities to take up this work. The data and scripts are all on my Github for anyone to make use of. I can do other lists on demand.

Commentary

Last month I was saying that the $HIVE price was low, but this week it was down to just 6.6c, but is bouncing back now. That is in the context of most crypto being down a lot, so it does not mean that Hive is doing worse. Of course the price ought to be better so that it ranks higher than 508th on @coingecko, but it is up to the markets to decide.

I expect some people are buying now, but that will be the case with other coins. Our issue is still slow growth and issues with keeping people engaged once they join. I have said all along that you have to make it a fun experience. In places like the UK the rewards would not buy much, but then Hive is much more than just a way to earn crypto. It offers a real alternative to corporate social media that seeks to exploit users whilst feeding them ads and content they do not really care about. It should not be up to a few billionaires to decide what we do online.

A key part of Hive is communities where people can engage with those who share their interests. I have created several for things I am into and it is pretty cheap to do so. That gives you some control to moderate what gets posted there. If we could move some communities away from reddit and Facebook it could give Hive a boost.

I also think Hive has potential for creative people to engage with their fans whilst everyone gets rewarded. Sites like Patreon take a cut of what fans put in, but on Hive those fans could stake some HP and reward every post the artists post.

I will always say that Hive is imperfect. We have some trolls, bullies, scammers and spammers, but I think the good far outweighs the bad. My focus is on the positive aspects.

#BritList: A monthly list of Hivers in the UK

Sort:

Would be a great thing bringing communities from platforms like Reddit. Shame about the numbers dropping, but hopefully over the course of the year those numbers can stay steady or increase.

Speaking with AlessandraWhite, I think Hive meetups worldwide, not just the UK, would greatly help out. Events like tokenize too, hopefully there are some more conferences like those around this year.

I even briefly talked with itsshmoogle A few weeks back regarding online meetups. I can remember the Altspace VR meetup for hivefest it was a very cool event and gave everyone a chance to go. That platform is no longer around but maybe there is an alternative and if not maybe there is a workaround. not just for hivefest like events either.

There's nothing quite like meeting in person and we have been lacking events in the UK lately. I attended some small ones last year and will try to get to others. @planetauto are looking to do one in the Lake District, but that's a bit far for me to go. They should definitely not all be in London, but part of the reason for these lists is to show where people are so events can be organised.

!BEER

Yeah, I have been doing some looking on the trains and event national express/Flixbus services and from Norwich I can just about venture anywhere other than too far North. With the new job and putting money aside specifically to fund my travel to Hive events, I will be looking to attend some when one becomes organised.

Hey @chris-uk, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

We love your support by voting @detlev.witness on HIVE .

It offers a real alternative to corporate social media that seeks to exploit users whilst feeding them ads and content they do not really care about. It should not be up to a few billionaires to decide what we do online.

Spot on, I used to do fb in search of blue thumbs, given that up now.

A key part of Hive is communities where people can engage with those who share their interests... If we could move some communities away from reddit and Facebook it could give Hive a boost.

Thing is I think the hive and fb, are two different entities, here yes communities, brilliant, but one has to put the effort in, the fb crowd just shove a few shite snaps up and walk away. Don't know about reddit, opened an account years ago never used it, seems to be full of bollocks too.

hope the day is going well. I'm from Stoke-on-Trent which is west midlands. Been back on the platform, now just over a week after 6 years and i've fully enjoyed it. Great to network with people that have similar passions here to. 😉🎷

I'll update your location for next month. If I edit these posts then everyone gets notified.

It's great to have you back and I hope cool things come from it.

!BEER

Thank you for that 😁Cheer's for the🍻 that's cool.

Hey @man-with-a-sax, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

Ah! @steevc! I fixed the problem and should appear on the posting list when next you run it. Thanks! 🙏🏽

I was confused as your previous comment was on the post for February 2025! I was debugging my code and it all looked okay. You had me worried I had messed up.

Cheers Steve here. Trying to post a bit more on hive these days although mostly isolated to the splinterlands community.

We each have our own things going on. I'm less involved with Splinterlands these days, but I hope it's going well for you.

!BEER

Very true. Yeah I'm really into it. The game is growing a lot and doing loads better than a few years ago.

Just popped in to see how things are going. Good to see hive UK users are still holding steady regardless of price fluctuations.

Amazing data! I think we really need to thing of more things to add to the level to make people grind for it.

The figures for February this year are almost the same as those for February 2021, which may be a good sign. Perhaps the numbers will increase as they did during that golden age.

The world has changed since then and crypto has too. We need to show that Hive is still a good option. It only changes if we help to make it happen.

When rewards are low, the value shifts to the actual sovereignty and community.

I hope it has value for you.

Your commitment since December 2020 is really remerkable. Nice to see considering ideas for enhancements.

I think it's worth doing. I'd love to see other do it for their countries as I do not have time to keep updating those.

I wonder how's the Italian list updated

I leave that to the Italians. Anyone can do it.

Update: @steevc, I paid out 9.693 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 14 comments in this discussion thread.
