Mining alterations

in #hivebits2 years ago

A Hive user recently brought it to my attention that HBIT mining might be considered spam by the user being replied to. That person is not involved in the mining or receipt of HBIT, yet he or she still receives a notification message...possible spam. This is a fair concern and is certainly not a perception that we want.

This could be avoided altogether by shutting off notifications, however, my guess is most HBIT miners appreciate a confirmation message.

So, a change...

When you mine HBIT using the !hivebits command, instead of 1.00 HBIT going to you...

  • 0.9 HBIT will go to you
  • 0.1 HBIT will go to the person you are replying to

Options

In this way, I see three HBIT mining options:

  1. Mine with a reply to yourself (you will get 100% of the HBIT)
  2. Mine with a reply to another user (you get 90%, the person you're replying to gets 10%)
  3. Mine using the official HBIT mining account: @hivebits.mine (you get 90%, @hivebits.mine gets 10%)

Notes on the options

Option 1
From the start, I've suggested that anyone who wished to mine HBIT regularly should set up their own "my HBIT mine" post/page. Then, just respond to that page with !hivebits. In this manner, you will get 100% of the mined HBIT and no one else will receive a notification. Don't feel that you're being selfish if you go with the 100% option. That is fine by me! This is exactly the goal of HBIT: to reward users for their own efforts through "proof-of-comment" mining.

Option 2
By creating a 90%/10% split, HBIT becomes something of a mining/tipping token. It now involves the user being replied to by giving them a small bit of one hivebit. This might be considered their tip or their reward for allowing you to use their comment to mine...kind of their royalty earned for what they've written. Still, I would recommend doing this cautiously or sparingly or with someone you know well or with whom you've communicated.

Option 3
I created the @hivebits.mine account with one purpose...it's a place to mine HBIT without concern for notifications bothering anyone. If you need a place to mine HBIT and don't wish to use your own post, then this is the place.

Since you are replying to another user in this option, the hivebits.mine account will receive 0.1 HBIT each time you mine (you will get 0.9). I (@crrdlx) will consider the 0.1 to be my own. Thanks! 😀 I run @hivebits and @LUVshares and there actually are some costs involved...100 BEE to set up each token (presently, that's $55 USD each), $5 USD per month server fee, and in the fact that almost all of my HP is delegated to either LUV or HBIT. I've never sold a single LUV token, but likely will trade HBIT at some point. I'm not complaining, I enjoy this, but I do feel it's worth being open and transparent about this.

Wildcards and miscellanea

In the first post of hivebits, I stated there are "no guarantees." This is still a bit experimental and very early. The 90%/10% change may get reverted back to a simple 100%.

Resource Credits (RCs) are always a wildcard. The 90/10 split may eat up RCs faster than before. So, we may revert.

Also, to conserve RCs, the bot's comments may be turned off altogether. If this happens, you can still mine HBIT, there just won't be any comments or notifications. Remember, you can still always monitor your HBIT status in your H-E wallet, using an H-E explorer (option A or B), or by viewing the hbit-log on Discord (best).

Wen 90/10?

I feel there is no need to delay on this change. Still, since HBIT operates on a daily schedule, I think a 24 hour grace period is appropriate for anyone wishing to set up their own HBIT mining post.

The 90%/10% change will start tomorrow, 1/17/2022.

Could always use more of This.

What about some sort of incentive mechanism when voting the hivebit reply message this would built the hivebit account over time. Perhaps that could then be used to cover the cost or do something useful with.

Just an idea.

Hmm. I like your thinking! Incentives yield results. However, a couple of things...(a) sounds like some tricky coding, and (b) my gut tells me it sounds like an incentive-for-upvote quid pro quo and my gut gets a little queasy. As far as building the hivebit account with upvotes, feel free to upvote any time!

Here's the bottom line...

  1. There will likely be very few posts from hivebits so very few chances to upvote.
  2. I'm okay funding this endeavor on my end.
  3. If anyone wants to help, mine using the official HBIT mine at https://hive.blog/hbit/@hivebits.mine/mine-hbit and it would be appreciated.

:)

I also had this gut feeling. I was hoping maybe someone smarter than me could pose a cool idea that would fix this gut feeling of ours. I hoped to start some creatively process :-D

But yeah you are right! I’ll mine as you prefer and squeeze in the occasional upvote when my power is up for it 👌

All in all it’s really cool that you are doing all this stuff out of just fun (I assume ;-)) very much appreciated!

By all means, I appreciate your comment. And I agree, someone tossing out an idea is how a lot of good things start. Like a tiny little yeast spore, it gets in the back of your brain, grows and ferments over time, and sometimes makes a fine wine. Who knows? and thanks. :)

I just liked that you brought up an idea to improve the Token, but I got the same bad feeling in the stomach as you guys, because of the "get payed for your vote" element and also because HBit should be only minable through the command once per day.

I think it is still quite important that we toss around ideas, so keep it up. Maybe the next thing you think of will get implemented. !LUV

Uh oh! The command won't work in response to the hivebits account (the HBIT source account). Try any other, such as the official mining account at @hivebits.mine and it should work. :)

THANKS.

Great. Try mining (just not in response to the hivebits account...won't work). You can reply to any other account or to the official HBIT mine at @hivebits.mine 🙂

I think it can have a nice turnover, since we will start using it in other people's posts, hence giving some promotion and bringing new people to mine HBIT

Hi, there! Two things: 1. I think you meant to use !hivebits with an exclamation point and not an @ and 2. mining doesn't work here in response to the hivebits account. My suggestion: go to @hivebits.mine and enter the !hivebits command and it should work.

How about mining !hivebits directly under the @hivebits account?

Have some !PIZZA with your (@crrdlx's) !LUV!

Won't work. 1. Part of the script disallows it and 2. I really don't want all those comments.

Do you mean that you really don't want those !hivebits comments, even if there is something else good on the comment with that bot command? 🤔

Have some !ALIVE with your !LUV! 😁

HBIT mining change: starting 1/17/2022, there will be a 90%/10% split when mining HBIT by replying to another user. If you wish to receive 100%, that's fine! Simply reply to your own post or comment. Details and reasons here.

No, I don't mean that. Authentic comments are welcome, of course. See https://peakd.com/hbit/@hivebits.mine/mine-hbitp

I just insert the !hivebits command on a comment once a day whenever I want to reply for engagement (with other Hive Engine tip tokens, of course). 😅

Good Morning,

why does the HBit reply say 2/1 all of the sudden? @crrdlx ?

image.png

Not completely sure. Must be due to the 90/10 split. Supposed to mean 1/1...1 sent at 1 per day. 2 per day isn't even allowed. I'll think on it.

Supposed to mean 1/1...1 sent at 1 per day. 2 per day isn't even allowed.

yeah, that is how I understood it as well.

Maybe it gets confused because now you have two shares. the 0.9 and the 0.1 one?

Yes, no doubt that's it. I could probably figure it out if I dug into the code, but I'm not too concerned about it right now.
