Community Spotlight: HODL - A Social Crypto Community

in #hodl4 years ago

The Hive Cryptoverse is a BIG, amorphous space, with just so many nooks and niche places to hang out that it's easy not to really KNOW what's or who's out there unless you go looking.

Today @HiveLift is shining a light on the HODL Community. We asked some questions of @vlemon and hope it helps to enlighten you, and encourages you to check them out, engage, subscribe & contribute.

Q1 Who started HODL & why?

I (@vlemon) started the HODL Community when I understood that some users could be lost in the Hive Universe. By building a community centered on specific topics, you feel more at “home” and you discussed with people with interests close to yours. This does not mean they will agree with you but at least you might share different point of view / information.

Q2 What kind if people-content does HODL want to attract?

As stated previously, we are focused on Crypto-related content. We try to attract Crypto investors, traders, artists, gamers or anyone interested in discussing Crypto related content.

We do like having some passionate and active users that can interact with the community over the different topics mentioned above. Once a user find a cool dapp, investment, etc… sharing it with the rest of the community feels good as you get feedbacks!

Q3 Greatest misconception about HODL?

As we have great writers that have been there for a while, I feel some Hivers might not feel confident to post in our community. As long as it is their own content and a thorough blog post, there will always be space for them in our community.

All our members are very welcoming and love seeing new faces.

Q4 Biggest thing people who are not involved with HODL are missing?

Community / Family feeling and some great tips / tutorials from our senior members. They are of course missing out on the great curation trail following our @hodlcommunity account.

Q5 HODL's biggest claim to fame?

If you intend to HODL your cryptocurrencies until moon, why not sharing this adventure with other HODLers Winking face !

Q6 Where would you like HODL to be 6 months from now?

We recently reached one of our goals as we have almost 600 users and more than 105k HP delegated to our community account. This helps us to reward the great content writers in our community.

In 6 months, we hope to be one of the Top 10 community in the HIVE ecosystem. Also, we will look forward to having more Hive Power to sponsor more community initiatives / contests.

And why not dream about our own UI? Our own HODL Community CryptoFund? Our own HODL Community Podcast / Video show featuring our members? Our own Token? Who knows where this great community will end up.

Q7 Current or coming challenges people can join?

Let’s be clear, Hive Onboarding is still a mess ! Despite everything done and hats off to the onboarding project, Hive is too complicated for the average Chad. I have brought some users to the platform, I will say even by delegating and telling them to ask if they need help. 1 our of 10 stayed. That is a shitty retention rate and as long as we do not improve it, Hive will not have its mooning period.

Concerning our community, HODL is young as we are not even 5 months old and we need to do more to reach out of our core base. We also need to be more integrated in the HIVE decision making process. Even if we are small we can still have interesting ideas and look forward to contribute to Hive.

We remain optimistic as HIVE is one of the most vibrant community out there and our Blockchain rocks, as we saw during the Justin Sun takeover ! HIVE = FREEDOM for anyone in the Crypto Space, let’s build on that.

Awesome questions and equally awesome answers by @vlemon.

I have been a member of HODl community since it's inception and happy to have delegated some HP as well.

It's nice initiative by you @hivelift to showcase a community thru your blogs and give communities a lift to make them visible to more people.

Wishing good day to you and the readers of this blog :)

Aaaw - thanks for the boost & encouragement @coolguy123 - the bigger Hive gets, the more we need to regualarly showcase all kinds of communities that have been running for a while... cos newbies don't find them easily and they do offer SUCH an important way for new Hive family to get connected around thigns that interest them. I see anywhere from 5 - 12 people posting introduceyourself everyday - would be cool if more of them found fun & supportive commuities more quickly to help slow attrition rates.

Glad you enjoyed.

Though I do not write a lot about Crypto-related content, I think, we should probably start a campaign asking people who want to HODL their hive for a long term and collectively show the figure. And I agree, retention is a big problem. So we should try to curate some new people till they attain some SP ( e.g. 2k SP or 5k even , without powering down). That may help retain people.

My other account @artemisshares specifically curates people in the slice of the community that's fairly new, trying hard and not getting the support consistently. Plus @artemislives has had one young Nigerian man on 100% autovote everyday - glad to see he just made 5000 HP Dolphin this last #HivePUD and so now time to change that vote over to someone else. I got this idea from @HiveTrending who shared it during a #HiveChat about what we could do to better support newbies.

I think whenever we start saying "we should" that we should pause and say 'I should" and then do something about it. *Cos that's the nature of decentralized community.

Rentention starts with making friends and knowing where to do that. Communities are awesome. Maybe you could specifically-individualy invite some new people over to HODL and pop them on your personal autovote??

!ENGAGE 25

I actually did, but unfortunately even I could not retain them with my vote or inspiration.

Well good on you!! Choose someone else and try again, would be my advice. Look for someone posting consistently and engaging with others. 😊

Trying on twitter - whenever I see someone who has potential I recommend to join hive - hopefully, will attract few some day. There is no harm on trying - its a continuous an ongoing effort. I will never be tired of that.

I think I will coax @HiveLift 😆 to write a post about this tomorrow and invite people to NOMINATE up & coming new Hivers who need a consistent 100% upvote from several people, every day.

Thanks for the great idea and thought. 😍

Thank you 🙏 for the spotlight and nice blog about @hodlcommunity !

@tipu curate

You are SUPER welcome Vinnie! Pls feel free to DM me via twitter or discord if you have challenges or special things you'd like more people to know about. The bigger Hive gets, the more important it is to make sure we all know about changes, opportunities, contests & challenges.

Hope you have an awesome week!

I have seen a few posts by some friends in HODL and was wondering what it was but it sounds really cool, another crypto based community. Thanks for taking the time to share the interview and answer questions!

I have an additional question for @vlemon and wonder if it's already been considered to combine forces with Leo as that's another crypto community? Imagine a mega curation trail with collaboration there to really have an even bigger impact on curating content.

That's a really good question @nickyhavey - MANY people really don't see what the differences are between some communities, and indeed where their content fits or to best find "that" group of like-minded people. @HiveLift is hoping to tease communities out and help people - especially newbies - find a few niche places where they might engage and grow.

I'm also wondering about where newbies who want to start on crypto go? - people who WANT TO LEARN but are daunted and intimidated by terminology etc that they don't yet understand. People like me even. 😊 Both HODL & LEO seem way over my head.

And where best to post GENERAL content? HiveLift has tomorrow's post about using lists written and still can't decide where to put it LOL.

Appreciate you stopping by. Thank you.

Hive is a bit glitchy as the HF approaches, and I also tried to send you ENGAGE from the wrong account. LOL. Trying again... and off to move some over.

!ENGAGE 25

Yeah I think they may well be moving the HF forward a bit as it seems to be a bit chaotic today (smoother the last few minutes though without a hitch).

I'm going to do a post in the next couple of days to help explain the differences between communities, tribes, tokens and SMTS as it's a bit of a minefield now. We've gone from not having this at all 18 months ago to an explosion of various communities but it would make sense that all the similar themed ones band together to create a super-unit with proper curation specifically based around that topic - that's the direction I see it going or at least, makes the most sense to me.

Regarding learning Crypto - I'm going to bring back and re-vamp my beginner's guide to crypto and post it from LEO moving forward because it seems it's either 100% advanced or you're left behind and we can't have that!

Depends what you mean by "general" content because even a general blog has a reason for posting and should be able to find a home somewhere (in my old fashioned eyes anyway).
