A difficult introduction

in #introducemyself7 years ago

I was starting to wonder if I was the only person that has a hard time trying to introduce themselves to a community here on the Internet? When I was first told about steemit I was so eager and I wanted to jump right on and start posting and commenting on things. I really thought I was going to just jump in and take off. When I'd actually sit down at my computer and start thinking about things to post I was having a hard time coming up with a couple of basic things to share. That probably sounds crazy right? I actually have so many interests and hobbies I sometimes do not know where too start... As I said in my original post that I am a multipotentialite. I know I know sounds like a crazy made up word but believe you me it's not. It's actually a bonafide word that explains me. For many years I was always told by my parents and my teachers in school that I needed to pick one subject and focus on it. That if I kept jumping from subject to subject that I wasn't going to master one and become a specialist. Oddly enough I never really wanted to be a specialist in just one subject. I've always been rather content with just being sorta a jack of all trades... Knowing a little bit of anything about everything. Soon I'll start trying to explain my many interests but I'll get back to talking about my finding it hard to introduce myself.

For a couple of nights I would sit at my computer and wonder really what should I say... Which things was more important and more interesting than the other. I really tried to narrow it down to just a couple of things and I will say that I feel I've shorted myself in a way. Thankfully there is a way to get the information out there eventually. :)

First picture
In addition to trying to figure out what to say about myself I was starting to have a mini crisis of sorts on a picture to verify me... Also in the picture I wanted to hold a piece of paper indicting that I was taking the picture for my new steemian friends. I would put the date in the pictures and so I would get sidetracked and the day would change. Then I'd feel like I'd have to make a new one and also try and improve the little sign I would hold up.
Second picture
After so many attempts on a span of quite a few days I think I was starting to annoy everyone around me wanting to have my picture taken holding up a sign indication who I actually was.
Third picture
!
I even started asking various friends of mine which ones they liked better. I actually got different responses about the varying pictures on which one they thought I looked better in to which sign they liked better. Oddly I enjoyed making each sign...

I thought I would post one of the pieces I spent the most time making and colouring...

Colour Artwork

Here we are now a couple of days after I started this steemit entry on the many pictures I took and couldn't find the perfect ones to introduce myself here on steemit and I am still struggling how to create the perfect post. I know that I shouldn't try and be a perfectionist because when I do I often get no where.

I am hoping for a bit of feed back and I am wondering if I am the only person who has went through this?

With that being said I am going ahead and submitting this and hope for the best. I look forward to hearing comments and suggestions! :)

What a colorful and out of box idea for an introductory post:-) loved it!

Great introduction! Welcome!

Hey, welcome to Steemit! What games do you play? I saw that in your blurb you mentioned being an avid gamer. Thanks for all the verification images too. They really do help. I posted recently about how best to verify an account. It's definitely not an easy thing to do well. We are still trying to figure out the best way also since images can be faked. All of your images though? Nope. You're the real deal! haha

In addition to being a residential security expert, I'm also a private investigator. People watching is a passion of mine. One of the things I do is look through intro posts for new accounts that show promise. Yours does!

There are a ton of other webpages to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best for beginners:

https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example.)

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me to see if I should follow them back.)

https://steemit.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)

Oh yeah, there are a lot of bots on here. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your intro post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.

Adding photos to your account as a new Steemian may be confusing at first too. The easiest way it to click to "Submit a Story." Once in there, use the built in Steemit tool to upload an image from your computer. Below the posting window, you will see "Insert images by dragging & dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or by selecting them." Click on the blue text. Once the image is uploaded, you can copy and paste the link into your account settings.

Again, welcome, and I've followed you! If you have any questions about getting started, look me up on the chat site.

@finnian Thanks for the nice welcome and length comment! To answer your question about what games do I play... I mostly play World of Warcarft and I've played that since it came out and I've put the most time into it. I play with my 19 year old son and 14 year old daughter. Sometimes I joke around saying "a family that games together stays together." :) I also will play Smite, Dota2, League of Legends and I used to play Guild Wars, Warhammer, Diablo and pretty much whatever else my friends was playing. I pretty much always go back to WoW tho. Do you play any games yourself? Yeah I saw you had a post about verification so when I get home tomorrow I defiantly will take a bit more at your postings. I do know that a lot of images can be faked... Yeah I think I went a bit over board with my verification pictures. Haha! At first I was going to do just the first introduction post but then I was like I should really do a post about how many different pictures I had taken and different signs and the trouble I had with finally deciding on one. Thanks for saying I am the real deal. I defiantly strive to show who I am!

When you say you are a residential security expert do you mean in computer security or like security guard type of work? That is cool you are a PI. I am very skilled at researching people and things and finding tons of information. Sometimes people joke and say I do better research than the FBI. I am also really into genealogy so it really goes along with helping my research skills.

Thanks for the advice on the bots and checking account reputations. I will certainly follow your advice on that. I know everything is public on steemit as it is forever stored in the blockchain.

Yeah I know you can add pictures to a post directly from the built in steemit tool. I will have to use it some and figure it out. Also many thanks for the useful links you've provided me and I will check them out and bookmark them for future reference. :)

I've also followed you in return! Thanks for following me and telling me all this. When I can I will check out the chat site and look you up sometime. Is there a iOS client for it. I know there is eSteem.
Anyhow goodnight and I'll chat with you later!

The webpage for steemit.chat should work on an Apple product without any issue.

Residential security as in physical security for houses. Most people who study physical security do it for corporate customers since the pay is way higher (1K/Day). I'm not in this for the money those. My objective is to help people secure their homes and properties. Think barriers, lighting, cameras, alarms, etc. Some of my earlier posts begin to introduce the concepts.

Depending on what state you are in, you should consider becoming a PI. Many states make it difficult unless you are former LEO, but some states like Virginia allow anyone who takes a state controlled training course eligible.

Welcome to Steemit! Nice to meet you. :-)

Upvoted and followed! I am new here too. If you view my page and find it interesting maybe you can follow me too?

No pressure. Just if you wanna. :-)

You are always Welcome!

Welcome onboard.

Hello @ozhiya! Welcome to Steemit and Congratulations on taking a huge step and putting your Intro out to the Steemit Community which is a "Huuuge" (Owe that to President Trump, I know there are secret Steemit plagiarism Police, well I heard there was?) jump into an Ocean full of Whale's, Sharks, Dolphins and Minnows and who knows what other creature's lurk in the sea of @Steemit. I feel like a "Tetra Flake" or minnow food some times and I haven't even got in the water. I, like yourself have been struggling to find my niche, but like you I am a "multipotentialite" and I didn't even know there was a term for it and yet another label. How many labels can a person have? You see it is hard to stay focused and you are not the first one that has went through this I am sure because I am still going through it. I am getting a positive energy from reading your post and you have given me courage to make the jump into the deep end, okay I am going to jump into the shallow end and will be the minnow with the water wings, but I will have my Intro come hell or high water!! Can we say hell on Steemit? I have to figure out how to add a profile picture before I can make my first post and I know it can't be that hard, I have done it on every other platform out there. Anyway, Congratulations again I upvoted you as much as a Tetra Flake can upvote and I resteemed you intro. I will share or promote on the other platforms and see you around the school, the minnow school. Class Dismissed!

Welcome. So it appears your want to be into different things works out for the best. Glad to have you here. Feel free to stop by and support some good hip hop.

Hey Ozhiya,

Welcome to this wonderful community.
Steemit is a great place to write, share and connect with other people.

I wish you all the best here.
May your dreams come true.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

All the best :)

Second guessing ourselves and often feeling lost in our own train of thoughts is a clear indication of personal growth and the willingness to constantly be better. Ironically, your post was absolutely true to emotion and brimming with it. Reading it was heart-warming. Writer's blocks are usually rough phases for us folks, but being positive and relentlessly following through your passion for it is what will help push you through it. Also, you're absolutely amazing - both in words and pictures. X

Also, welcome to Steemit! (I'm new here also)

Followed and upvoted :)

Welcome:)

Up voted. Hello ozhiya. Welcome to steemit. I love your designs so much. They are beautiful especially the colour artwork. You can follow me so we can connect. Can't wait to work with ya. Good luck

I would like to welcome you to Steemit. Personally, it's been a wonderful journey for me and my friends here. I really hope to see you in upcoming post and do keep on writing. As I always welcome the new comers to start their journey in this platform, may I suggest you to check my blog. I have Resteemed few selected good posts to all the new comers to understand better on how to grow with the community. Please feel free to check on my new content everyday. Wishing you very best in this endeavor and have a nice day today.

I have a big smile on my face after reading this....

Greetings, fellow multipotentialite... and Thank You for introducing me to another stellar descriptor for who/what I am... :D
