Things New Parents Should KNOW!

in #life6 years ago

Everyone is so excited when someone close becomes a parent for the first time! They tell them everything they should know, well so they say.. When Eric and I got pregnant for the first time everyone had something to tell us about kids.. They had their stories and advice to give us.. What they really didn't tell you is the truth about being a new parent. Here is a list of TRUE things about becoming a new parent you need to know!

  1. You will never have privacy again. Need to use the restroom? Forget it. You will no longer be able to pee in privacy. A baby will always want to come with you. As they become a toddler they will just open the door for themselves.

  2. You will be asked a million questions every 5 minutes. Why? How about? Were are we going? What's that? Why not? Even after you answer them they ask another question.

  3. You will never sleep again. Even if your child starts sleeping all night long, you wont. Remember the child you gave birth to? Yeah your bladder is now broken. You can no longer hold your pee through the night. Even if your child starts sleeping you simply will not.. You'll even wake up worried the first time they do sleep all night long.. Like are you still breathing kid?

  4. They will pull on you, pull on your clothes, and simply want your attention 24/7. You no longer have the ability to have silence. Where ever you go..they go, and make all the noise they can.

  5. Your food is no longer just yours. Oh that sweet treat you have longed to eat.. Yeah, they can smell it a mile away. They have noses like a blood hounds.

  6. They will make the biggest messes. Messes that takes an army to clean up. Give them the food they ask for, and well it'll end up everywhere. Potty training will lead to even bigger messes. You simply can not avoid messes. You can contain them to a certain area, but after awhile they will out smart you and make them elsewhere.

Those are just a few select things that you should know as a new parent. Embrace your tiny newborn because once they become mobile your in a whole new world!

This is so true. Thank you for sharing. No one tells you about all of this.

Nobody told us anything like this.. just that they cry, need diapers, and food...oh boy..

Amen to the messes. Right now we have 4 under 5. The messes that can happen when I turn my back for about 30 seconds are truly spectacular, especially since the 18 month old seems to have a gift for causing catastrophe while trying to "help" and the 3 year old destroys things without thinking about it. It's to the point where in order to nurse the baby, I need to have all three sitting with me or in front of me or I need to be prepared to clean the entire house once the baby is done nursing.

Sleep? What's that?

And yet...we have four and I'm sure we'll have more. Because I know there is going to be a day when these small people won't be small and I'll have an army of extra hands around here. I grew up in a family of 8 and wouldn't have it any other way. The people they become will be with me and be my dearest companions the rest of my life.

So for now I don't sleep and I clean messes. But only for a time. And it will be worth it.

I forgot what sleep is too! Mine are 15 months and 3.5 years. Every thing my little one is learning is from his older brother. I have my fingers crossed my tubal stays done! I couldn't handle anymore kids.

Lol...well, the funny thing is the dynamic does change as you have more and the olders become more capable. It's not like you have seven toddlers running around (unless you're a very rare case). By the time my youngest brother was born, for instance, I was 22 and completely ran the house while Mom was recovering. A lot different from when my sister and I were tiny and she had a new baby. ;-)

No sane person has children. I'm not saying you have to be insane to have children. Oh no. You are insane because you have children. Your children will, in fact, teach you in the ways of insanity. I know. I've been insane a long, long time.

I have decided to follow you in the hope that some day I can give you advice to save you worse iniquities than insanity.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

As the oldest child in my family I know exactly what a new baby in the house is like. Which is why I never had any!!! Still, I enjoyed this post tremendously, but my arm is a little sore from patting myself on the back, congratulating myself on my own wisdom.

If you're the proud parents of a new baby, I hope you enjoyed a little peace and quiet this Christmas, because, believe me, once this baby learns what Christmas is all about (possibly as early as next year) the end of the year will never afford you a single minute's rest.

New parents only? This is still my life and my oldest in turning 8 😂 good bye those naps you once knew once you are a parent 😂

So true. I have a 3.5 year old and a 1 year old..its never ending!

We have a toddler and this was scary to read lol but I think we shall all be okay at the end of the day :)

haha. you will be okay but you may need to take a breather..

So precious.

You are right. My mom told me I ask a lot of questions that she got tired of answering, at that, I keep asking until she answers. I have kids I am taking care of and I know the inquisitive and curiosity that comes with the package. But it is kind of interesting when the kids are grown and you look back at the years.

My son ask several questions. I give him the answer and he asks the questions again. Its interesting to watch his little brain spinning..

Good article and very true what you wrote. The only time you are free is when they are grown, I mean really grown. While you think you are about to enjoy your privacy grandchild comes along with a lot of grand questions.

I can imagine. I have several nieces who while growing up asked my parents A LOT of questions.
