Early this Morning, I had a Visit from My Dead Friend

Nope. This is not fiction.

I had a pretty solid sleep last night, so when I awoke at 7 am, I thought, hmm not bad, because my sleep patterns are irregular at best, and non-existent at worst. I was going to get up, but I just had this uncontrollable urge to shut my eyes again; not the normal I'm-going-to-laze-around-in-bed-cus-it's-Sunday kind of urge, but a deep need to close my eyes.

I woke up exactly one hour later, feeling happy and sad and moved, and thrilled, and mostly, in awe. You see, one of my very best friends, Silvia, died from cancer a few short weeks ago, and being in Mexico, I did not get a chance to say goodbye in person.

I wrote a post seven months ago when I received the devastating news about her illness but mostly about who she was and what her amazing legacy was to me. She and I had been emailing ever since I heard the news, but I just never got a chance to hug her goodbye.

This morning I did.

She was in my dream; not a normal dream. But she was there. She was here. We both told each other how much we loved each other, how much we missed each other, and then I gave her a huge hug. I could feel her body. She turned to walk away, but looked over her shoulder and said, "one is never enough", and came back to give me one more :)

As she was turning to leave for the last time, I said, "Take care." She turned to me and said, "How the fuck am I supposed to do that?"

That may sound horrible, but I laughed because Silvia spent her life questioning things, and I suppose she's still doing just that...wherever she is.

Wow what a great experience @lynncoyle1! Silvia must have a good sense of humour! 😃
I'm not sure if you know, but many people believe that there is something like a family of souls. This means that you are surrounded by a group of souls who accompany you all the time (I mean also past and future incarnations). It is a joyful theory in that the people with whom you have lived close in this life will probably appear in your next life, so when they leave this world, they leave only for a moment.

Hey @see-it-feel-it, nice to see you here :) Silvia had a wicked dark sense of humor (like me :), so her comment to me is just sooooo the Sil I knew and loved :)

I have heard of that (just read a book about it actually) and I LOVE that whole concept. What a cool idea to think that we have those past and future souls, floating around us simultaneously! I simply cannot believe that what we see is what we get! :)

Thanks again for stopping by! I've been trying to open your "Angel" post but we've had wicked storms yesterday and our power kept popping on and off; I finally gave up and read an actual book. haha imagine!! It's sunny now, so I'm going to have a look at it all; the support I've seen for myself and everyone nominated is simply beautiful. Thank you for coming up with such an awesome idea :)

I also like this concept! After a deep research I found a lot of information that confirms this theory. That's why I think there's something about it.
I'm glad that "Angel post"attracts a lot of attention because it means that our community is very close-knit and we support each other.
I am also glad that you get a lot of love from Steemians. 💙 That's good because we want to appreciate people who are doing a really good job. :)

Can you tell me what is the title of the book you are reading?

That's so interesting! This concept makes life seem just magical!! The book I read is fiction, called Infinite Sacrifice by L.E. Waters; it's about a woman, Maya, who dies, but when she gets to heaven, she has to "re-live" who she was in all of her past lives, and in each of those lives, is someone she knows from another life (as a different person). It was this book that solidified how I thought about our past, present and future selves. Let me know what you think about it if you do read it :)

And regarding the "angels" here, all I can say is, "you sure have your work cut out for you, trying to make a choice between so many nominations"!! :) Regardless of those chosen, it's great to see so many on your post; this really is a great community!

This book seems to be interesting and also has the e-book form, which for me is a big plus. If I read it, I will let you know how I liked it.

It is a pleasure to do something for such a great community. :)

I found it because I have a KOBO e-reader and receive daily emails with free and discounted books through a website called Bookbub . You should check it out; I haven't paid full price for a book in a long time and of course there's a lot of junky books that don't sell for obvious reasons haha, but there's a lot of great ones too!

@see-it-feel-it IS THIS THE SIGN THAT LYNN DESERVES SOME WINGS ???? I think so 😉

I believe that the community will make the right choices. :)

Beautiful and amazing. Thank you for sharing @lynncoyle1

Thank you @robertandrew! It was "beautiful and amazing"!! and I feel so fortunate and blessed that she chose to do that for me :)

@lynncoyle1,

A beautiful experience. Who knows what it means exactly ... but maybe it doesn't matter. Whatever the cause, the effect is a thing in-and-of-itself. You've had a tough couple of years regarding illness. Hang in there girl.

Quill

Thank you Quill! It was so surreal and so beautiful, and you're right, it doesn't matter about the cause etc. What matters is how it made me feel, which was incredibly blessed and fortunate.

Yep, there's been plenty of illness over the last little bit, but do you know what? There's been so much good during that time too; illness really has a way of either dragging you down, or making you realize what's important in life. I've made a conscious decision to go with door number two on that one :)

Thanks for stopping by Quill.

@lynncoyle1,

At the end of all this, you're going to be a poet too. You're getting philosophical.

Quill

haha I've always been philosophical and a bit of a closet poet :)

I love this, I have had many experiences like this. Don't try to reason or understand it but accept it for what it is.

I totally agree! Somethings just are; I'm so glad that you've experienced the same @hezziebees :) It really is an amazing feeling, isn't it?!

Interesting. My grand ma wa sin nu dreams also the othe rnight. I guess she wants to reminds us of her upcoming birthday next month 😃.

Glad you finally able to said goodbye to her tru a dream. ❤️

awww thank you @joyrobinson! and happy birthday (early) grandma!! :) I'm so glad that she visited you; it's such an amazing and blessed thing to happen, isn't it?! :)

Thank you for stopping by :)

Something very similar happened to me after my Dad past… this is a beautiful cathartic moment and I’m glad you had your “see you later”.

awww I'm so happy that you had a moment with your Dad too then! It was an incredibly emotional thing, especially when I first woke up. The "feeling" passed throughout the day, so I'm so glad that I wrote this as soon as I composed myself soon after waking.

Thank you @puravidaville :)

Yes- I remember feeling like it was more than a dream but now so much time has passed that it’s just like any other memory I have. I really believe that we stay connected to those that pass. For instance, on the same date my Dad left, 10 years later, @dandays proposed to me. He single handedly changed that day forever for me (I of course think my Dad helped him with this one but 🤷🏼‍♀️).

I’m glad you took the time to memorialize that moment too! It’s a beautiful thing.

That's amazing @puravidaville!! I believe that kind of connection too; your dad certainly "pushed" @dandays in the right direction!

Here's one for you: We met a man here in Mexico, a Canadian, who was terribly unhappy with his living situation here (why is not important), but we spoke to our landlord and got him a suite in our place. The other day, we were all talking in the pool, and it turns out he knew Brian's parents and we all believe that "they" pushed us together here to help him! Small world in the end :)

What?!?? That’s incredible! The world really is a tiny pale blue dot in the vastness of the universe and oddly enough all of us inhabitants are so intrinsically connected 🤷🏼‍♀️ . Beats the crap outta me… that’s just amazing. Man, I love stories like this. Serendipity at its finest. Our loved ones are still very much connected to our daily lives; beautiful!

Thanks for sharing that @lynncoyle1 😇

It is incredible! And I just re-read what I wrote to you and it's John's (our neighbor) parents and Brian's parents knew each other. John really believes that the two moms orchestrated the whole thing :) It's sooo beautiful when you think about it!

You're welcome! I love sharing with someone who obviously gets it :)

I’m with John on this one… I think the moms definitely had their hand in this one. :)

Glad your friend came to say goodbye @lynncoyle1

awww thank you @steven-patrick! I'm so glad she did too!! :)

Nice !!!!!!!!!

What a great gift from a friend.

It really was a beautiful gift that she gave me!! I'm still in awe when I think about it :)

Thank you for recognizing how amazing it was!

Ooohh yea never forget it.

I never will!! It happened once before with my grandfather visiting me in a dream too; it felt as though we'd had this really great visit. It had been a long time after he died, so I wasn't sad when I woke up, just felt really lucky ... and good.

howdy there lynncoyle1...how interesting, I've heard about these types of things..mysterious but beautiful...best not to question but accept and be thankful! God bless you and Brian!

best not to question but accept and be thankful

That's exactly what I did! It happened to me one time before with my grandfather, and like this time with Silvia, I felt so so blessed because of it!! :)

whaaaat?? really this wasn't the first time this happened? holy molly that's quite amazing, it's some kind of gift, not sure what kind.

where have you been all week?

I know right??!! I knew it was special with my grandfather, and now Silvia, but I just assumed it happened to more people :)

We've had bad storms this week and our power has been on and off for a couple days, plus, when the sun has come out, I need to get out of the apartment :)

oh ok ..rats..I was hoping you could regain your second place spot at least!
But once you get used to lounging...don't know if there's any coming back!

But once you get used to lounging...don't know if there's any coming back!

Oh my gosh, that's it!!! It's just so hard to focus on it all when I don't really have to :)

that's so true and I'd say just take it easy and you guys enjoy yourselves!

That's right, Silvia. Always question things. No matter where you are.

Oh, she would have loved you. Thank you :)

I'm glad you got a chance to really say goodbye. It sounds like it helped! Good thing you decided to get a little more sleep.

I didn't even realize how much I needed that until it happened! haha you're right! I could have easily gotten up instead :)

What a beautiful closure to one stage of a friendship. Take care Lynn.

That's a perfect way to describe it @livinguktaiwan! Thank you :)

What an awesome gift. She knew you needed this.

It's so interesting because I didn't even know that I needed it until I woke up and realized what had happened. So unbelievably amazing the whole experience!

I guess she knew that you didn't feel well because you didn't have a chance to hug her goodbye so she came to you to change it :)

I guess so, right?! I didn't know that I needed that to be truthful; I thought I'd processed the fact that I couldn't say bye to her in person, but I guess she just knew better. She'd love that too ... she always like to be right haha

that sounds like a very cathartic experience @lynncoyle1. So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend but very happy to you finally got your hug. 💙

Cathartic. That's the perfect word for it @gillianpearce. It was such a healing experience, and I'm not nearly as sad about it all. Don't get me wrong, she was way too young and way to useful to this world, but that visit from her helped me for sure!

Another one of those words can't express experiences. I guess that's why we have hugs. :) A tender mercy if I ever heard one. I'm happy for you, and maybe now you can be at peace, too.

I would hope she would be able to take care now more than ever, but I get the question. My wish is, she's got her answer. :)

There aren't really words that can express this whole experience, but I guess that's what faith of any kind is really about. I just accept what happened as beautiful and feel very blessed and fortunate that it happened to me!

I would hope she would be able to take care now more than ever

That's what I first thought too Glen, but like you, I'm thinking she's got the answer she needed. Thank you!
