This week we have a battle of the dark beers! Two incredible little fellows are going to go toe to toe but who will be the winner?
Last night was a proper donkey of a night between the two children so today I have been operating at half-gash on about 3.5 hours sleep.
As a result, when it came to choosing the beers I thought, no lame IPA's for me. I am going for an altogether darker, beefier thrill tonight..
So first up, the incredible sounding -

This is a fine looking chap. A 6.8% chocolate porter from the Thornbridge brewery, the makers of last week's watermelon extravaganza.
This is made with real cocoa beans during the maturation process. I am intrigued.

Oh it's black, black as my old mother in-laws heart! There is a great smell emanating from it too. Look at that -

It's very smooth for a porter. The roasted coffee notes are very pleasant. The chocolate, a slightly sweet almost milky chocolate affair. This is a keeper alright. It all blends into a fine roasted malt, sweet sensation. I will give this a splendid 8.5/10.
Well that brewery knows it's potatoes as they say in Russia. Next up we have...

Ha, bring out the imp indeed. Tres amusing. An Imperial Stout from a fine East coast Scottish brewery: Alchemy Brewing Ltd. If the last one looked all about that funk then this one is even more so.
Brewed with molasses, liquorice and oatmeal before maturing in red wine casks they say? Count me in! Although at 10.6% I had better only have a couple in case I go radge and take to the streets with my top off.

I have bought out the imp!! Look at it, it's a pulsating, bruised black. Like my big toe that time I kicked a rhino.
Mis pantalones! It's stonking!! Sweet, licorice, malty and slightly wine'y... In a totally good way. It's strong and hearty like a Duke's John Thomas. I love it, the malty goodness lingers lovingly on your palate for some time after each swig. Mmm mm, velvety. 9/10!!! Boom!!!!
I think it's a while since we have had a 9 scorer. Happy days. I am off to bury myself in the sweet dark bosoms of my new liquorice lover.
Enjoy your weekend chaps!!

Cheers!
That second one please. :-)
Cheers mate, have a great weekend!
You would love the second one mate, I guarantee it!!
Have a cracker yourself!
DING! DING! DING!
The Imps have brought it! Wow! It has been a while. In fact, it was last year since a beer has scored above 9. Very overdue! Man, these two beers really sound like winners. The way you described these made me salivate the way I haven't salivated since 2017. Great start to kick off 2018 beers, bro-danggo!
Oh no, all the way back to last year!?!. Things have been slow!!
It was great to have two fine ones to try. No coincidence that their nature was dark, dark indeed!!
Now that I've seen a 10/10 beer, I couldn't look at past beers the same way.. A Cranacha-what? I don't... I don't even know that anymore.
That was when I knew it was good when I compared it to past ones and realised it was head and shoulders above them!
Another topping week, 8.5 and a 9 in the same test.
Maybe they need a retest after a full nights sleep, as the lack of can make us do funny things.
You might have a point. I will inform the Missus to bring some chilled to my bedside in the morning :OD
That would be the end of a great relationship. The chances of your survival are extremely thin, and we need meesterboom to continue his rousing stories.
Do a rerun next Friday after a good sleep the night before, even if it takes a couple of weeks, I am sure you wouldn't mind doing the retrial until you get it right.
I have always been a fan of the retrial when it comes to a bit of bev lol!
Dont like beer at all except Stout which I love. In SA Castle milk stout is very popular and they also brew a chocolate version. ... wtf is "stonking"??
Stonking is another word for amazing. These beers certainly were!
Cheers I make first million from stock market
Well congratulations to you dude!!! Cheers!
Well, Boom. I must say you know how to pick them! I'll take one of each please! Then I'll chose which one to have another of but I think it might be Imp! By then I may be under the table! I'm getting to be a cheap date!
I always say, a cheap date is the best date!! ;O)
Make a killing on the stock market!
Whilst half canned!! Perhaps not :OD
You literally made hundred and fifty bucks by drinking beer: you are my hero.
That’s saying something from an Irishman... 😂
That beer doesn't pay for itself ;0)
these beer look amazing dear friend @meesterboom, although the highest score received the beer Bring, I got my mouth water with chocolate beer, now I must admit that I want to try one at this precise moment.
Thank you very much dear friend, for another excellent autualizacion
I wish you a wonderful night
I am having the bestest night @jlufer!! A big cheers to you!
CHEERS!
Cha ching, cheers mateybaws!!
@meesterboom Bring Out The Imp sounds like my kind of beer. Unlike you I think I might drink more than a couple, taking to the streets with my top off sounds fun lol. I love trying new beer, I wonder if my neighborhood liqueur store has this in stock or can at least get. Where is it actually brewed?
Thanks for the share!
That one is brewed in Lothian, East coast of Scotland near Edinburgh. Where are you based?
Its damn fine. I am tempted to throw caution to the wind and gallop more down. Lol!
LOL, I'm actually on the east coast of the United States. I need to run out for a few moments anyway so i'll stop by the store to check if they have it and if they do, don't worry I'll knock a few down for you lol. Are you in Scotland or is it imported to you?
Oh aye. I am in Scotland! The land of perpetual twilight!
I hope you get a hold of it
Now I know who I should look for if I'll be searching for new tastes of beer.
You already must be a grandmaster in beer tasting))
Cheers mate! I can drink it, I dont know about grandmaster anything lol!
Martin Luther’s thoughts on the matter- “Whoever drinks beer, he is quick to sleep; whoever sleeps long, does not sin; whoever does not sin, enters Heaven! Thus, let us drink beer!”
I can't think of a more resounding reason to do so!! Hooray!!
Ho hoo!! I was thinking the same...that it's been awhile for a 9/10! A winner indeed. Sounds delish!
Absolutely delish, cheers lass! :O)
I must say, you have the bestest hobbies! Beer testing ... can't get much better than that! :)
Hehe, IT is quite a good hobby!
sure will go all out with the imp. i love stouts, it just has a way of making me take more and more. i hope i don't end up on the streets, top off one of these days.
you do know your beers.
I dont really, I just like trying different ones. One of these days though, on the streets for me!
oh my. Hope your mother in-law will not give you the action of the black heart. Hahahaha.
I missed your articles these past days. I was sick and know fully back.
@seyiodus.
I am glad you are back and well! I hope she never sees it! :O)
I am glad to. thanks.
Cross my fingers for you. lolx.
just think, you get to review beers and make money from it. If that isn't living the life I don't know what is. I'll be ready to have more informative comments once you move to Bourbon or Scotch :)
That is most definitely the fun bit!
Cheers!!
Enjoy the good sip. I love it when it is served very chilled.
Trying to create a battle between two lords? I bet it will end a draw
Lol, there was a winner! I enjoy it quite chilled too :O)
That's great. I will do exactly the same here with three lords. I will see who wins. lol.
wish i could take also a glass with you @meesterboom.
nice one there
Cheers mate
yh boss cheers
Hot drink
I read today's blog first, but today I'm on the sauce, so I decided to comment here. First solid drunk since...well.
Feeling good right now. Might crash and burn, but honestly I welcome that. I haven't had that soul wrenching cry that I need yet. Maybe this will do it.
Sorry, bummer, I know! Right now though I am having fun. Here's some fun:
Cheers Brother
