How Do You Do What You Do?

Recently, I have been approached in Discord by random Steemians asking How do you do what you do? Or questions along those lines.

This is not a new thing. It used to happen an awful lot, particularly during the bull run of 2017.

I would reply something like, are you watching me? Get out of my garden!!

No, of course not. My reply was usually,

Eh, whatcha mean??

Then the people asking would cut to the chase and ask something along the lines of how can I grow my account, like yours?

_IMG_000000_000000_20190917140821626_20190918181419891_20190922112001608.jpg

They would ask this as if it had nothing to do with hard work and everything to do with some kind of secret sauce.

So, I would often answer -

A good shaving of your knackers, is a great place to start.

This answer often failed to impress.

I would often follow it up with -

A regular hand shandy, at least daily, clears the pipes and not just the creative ones.

At this point, accusations would fly, you aren't interested in helping the little guy! Or you're only in this for yourself!? Invariably followed by calling me an asshole or a bitch.

One time I was called a cuck too. How I giggled at that.

When I replied that such antics might not be the best way to grow their account, they would often agree by telling me to go and fuck myself.

Fine times indeed.

These delightful conversations slowed down over the last year until of course #newsteem came along.

Now they are back.

Not much has changed.

A friendly hello.

Then a compliment over my artwork.

Then an asking of how I do what I do.

I reply and go into great detail on photo editing, the difficulties with layers, masks and colours. The challenges of doing all this on a mobile device, etc.

They nod as much as they can in the virtual world until I am finished.

Then.

Help me grow my account like yours.

They ask without a question mark.

Fuck off.

I respond politely.

They usually go a bit nuts at that and insult me lots. I try to offer help and guidance by telling them of the consistency of my foreskin and how silky my penis feels in the water.

Often they block me.

And that... Well that, is pretty much how I do what I do.

Sort:

are trying to sound like an "Owner Operator"????
don't forget to change hands at 99

I wish I could decode half of what that meant! :0p

Owner operator ;= wanker,
Change hands at 99 = the first hand is getting tired, swap hands and keep going.

Haha, it is all clear now!

Just a bit of Kiwi,/ service humour.

So, I would often answer

A good shaving of your knackers, is a great place to start

😆 that's a spicy mentoring style.

I like to grow my account using a patented formula of steem secret sauce called 'hard work' as well. With a crushed nacho topping of what I hope is quality writing. Maybe it's more like a 2010 finders crispy pancake and full of suspicious meats.

It's funny you mention the bull run, I experienced something similar when I was working in one of the discord communities called promo-mentors. I gave of my time freely, providing pretty in-depth creative writing workshops. And on numerous occasions had some complete ass hats DMing me to call me a racist, or suggest I was somehow biased for not submitting them to curie. Not one of them asked me what the criteria was for curie, or if I could lose my position for submitting shit content.

People can be dicks. Lol, but because I was in a position of teaching I couldn't just out right say 'your fiction is shit that's why I won't submit you to curie'. This place was kinda crazy during the bull run though. Lots of desperate people trying anything to get a piece of the pie.

Lol, that's the position I found myself in quite a lot of the time. Having been badgered to look at someone's quality content, I would give in. Then when I wouldn't upvote it, they would rage at me. Why the hell not, is there something wrong with it!? Etc. And the thing is, I know quality is subjective but it's also find really apparent when you are looking at a turd that is a turd!!

I can only imagine that as a curator for Curie you got it in spades!!!

Funnily enough, the people who generally produce good content area not the ones running around trying to get votes for it!!

And the thing is, I know quality is subjective but it's also really apparent when you are looking at a turd that is a turd!

Ha ha, yeah I agree about the turd thing. Tbh though, I'm not sure about quality being subjective. I think what people enjoy is completely subjective, like some people on steem legitimately don't like reading written posts but do like video content. That's fine and I get it. And you can tell a vlog that's actually took skill in editing etc. But when i look at a piece of writing I know if it's well written, interesting and stylistically solid. For example, the difference in style between fiction and travel writing, which are the two main areas I curate for curie. You can tell when they're well written and fit with the genre. Like you said, a turd is what it is and it's hard to polish 😂

I can only imagine that as a curator for Curie you got it in spades!!!

Yeah, during my first 6 months on here, before I started working in a few discord communities, I kept it secret that I worked for curie just to avoid the hassle. The constant DMs used to annoy the sht out of me so much that I eventually produced stock messages along the lines of 'if you're not getting curie votes organically you need to up your game.' Problem being they'd then be like 'teach me'. And I'd be like 'come to one of the workshops at promo-mentors' and half of them would be really rude once at the workshop when I offered constructive criticism. I really was trying to help by giving back to the community the skills I learned at uni.

Some people didn't seem to realize that there was a tone of curators trawling through everything on steem 24/7 and submitting the posts that were good enough and which fullfil the guidelines. I used to get DM with post links begging and 90% of them I'd already seen, read the first paragraph and moved on. I used to be an editor for my university creative writing journal and that's just what you have to learn, how to assess decent writing quickly. I have to say that on steem when using something like steemlookup, there is a hell of a lot of posts that don't make it past the first paragraph.

But it wasn't all bad. There were many reasonable writers who came to promo-mentors workshops, particularly from the Philippines and other places, that improved massively through the workshop process. I was super happy to see them develop and to submit them to curie.

To be honest, the fact that the link dropping shit posters are returning is probably a good sign for steem being on the up and up. Fck, just wait until we hit over a dollar again 😂

It's true actually, what people enjoy is subjective, often the problem that arises from that is people classing stuff they don't enjoy as non quality!

It is a good sign that they are returning, like reverse canary's in the mine!!

Hahaha. Not being a shit poster is also helpful. Something that is lost on most of this platform.

Oh, that is well lost. Sometimes it is the thing with the being paid for it nonsense. Because of that everyone feels compelled to post daily. Some of the worst ones are the ones who post multiple times a day on different contents because their readers are interested. Lol!

"Interested". Hahahaha.

Lol, exactly!

'Fuck off'
'I respond politely.'

Tops!! haha.
Just like a real gentleman would ...

Hehe, exactly as a real gentleman would!!

Sometimes, it just has to be done!!

What....?? Nobody has asked me yet.., well they have... I just don't respond to the 'Hello Friend'... starter statements...

Oh you really have to!! That and the Good evening, sir type ones. They really do entertain! They have totally started up again. I have had three this week. I suspect the floodgates are opening!

Lol, I'll keep a eye for them, it's been months since I had one.

They will be a coming, they are drawn to the smell of Orca!

A good shaving of your knackers, is a great place to start.

I don't understand why they weren't impressed. I have been doing this for years and I am 107% certain that it is a key success factor.

Indeed!! It is almost exactly the secret sauce they were looking for but they couldn't see it!

Perhaps they got the secret sauce in their eyes.

Of course! They didn't want the secret of the secret sauce, they wanted to be drenched in the secret sauce!!

by telling them of the consistency of my foreskin and how silky my penis feels in the water.

Nah...you don't...do you?

I really do!

Don't get me wrong, if they are a genuine possession seeking advice on the ways of Steemit I am most helpful but you can tell the ones that just want to find out the secret shortcut to success without doing any work and they get the full foreskin treatment! :0)

That is hilarious - both your reactions and that people actually ask you for some sort of step-by-step guide. I see the fluff comments some of you big folks get, which are very rare for me, and I always think to myself: There really are some advantages to being a little guy. :)

Hehe, I find them all the more amusing because they obviously never read any of my stuff or they would have an idea of my humour. So when I say things like shiny penises they instantly get offended. Lol!!

Sparkling eyes, a glowing smile, a shiny penis - it sounds like a compliment to me ;)

To be honest Mr. Boom...since I'm not from your neck of the woods, I had to look up Knaker in the dicktionary, which reads as follows for all your other deplorables that stumble across your posts :>)

  1. BRITISH
    vulgar slang
    (knackers)
    testicles.
  2. IRISH
    informal
    an uncouth or loutish person.

I'm still confused...!?!?!? Should I shave my balls, or those of an uncouth, loutish person???

I really NEED to know so that I can grow my account.

Well if it's account growing you are after then I am afraid it doesn't come without a cost...

OPTION 1!!!

:OD

Okay...but, I think I'll go for a waxing instead of a shave down below; it'll be a lot smoother; after the initial pain that is. OUCH

That would be quite the initial ouch!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Just popping in to say Hey Me Boom :) The return of the spammy's sounds like a good thing in a way, means more business a foot on ol' steemit!

It does eh, maybe the good times are on their way again!

O I can just imagine how much fun you have with this. I believe you deserve every cent you get ......... one day my posts will also be seen, but I tend to think the educational post are a bit more boring than your posts. School suck LOL

Hehe, the educational ones are a tad drier but no poorer for all that!!

lol! Now I know what to tell them if they ask me sir meesterboom, thank you! The artwork on this one is freaking hilarious too.

I think I can be terrible guilty of spending too much time on the cover picture but it is worth it. My daughter loves them!

Oh I bet! lol. That alone is worth it! So many of them are incredible and hilarius before the writing even starts. They're so good and I don't think people understand what it takes to make those, they just get used to them.

Hehe, I am pretty sure they dont. I class a lot of them as way better than the writing, hahah!

You could do a post just with the artwork but I doubt if you could restrain from writing too!

I have thought about that before but I think people would then just assume I was being lazy as f*ck!

lol! If I was at your level of status and achievement here I doubt if I would care what they thought! Your real followers would sure be fine with it. I'd hope. lol.

I guess that's one way to get rid of them XD

Seriously how were they expecting the accounts to be grown? o_O

I genuinely think they think there is a secret club and by asking they will be ushered in and issues with all of the steems!! :0D
