What took me from desperation to "living the dream"?

in #life7 years ago

Forgive me, it's been a while since I bared my soul on Steemit. Do you ever feel like you're unworthy? Not good enough? Never going to have the life you'd dreamed of?

Well, I was like that.

I was desperate for so long. I had shitty jobs in London, UK, for 20 years. And now I'm living the dream in Thailand. I'm living in paradise while running an online business – which only takes a few hours every day.

As I say, I was working in crappy, shitty jobs for 20 years and during that time the Internet "came out".

The Internet "happened"

I was aware of the Internet in 1995 (OK it was in existence for ages before that). I took one look at it and I thought this is amazing. This is going to be huge!

I thought there must be some way that I can get into this.

This was in 1995 and I was working in shitty jobs. Well, fast forward to 2005 and I was still working in shitty jobs!

I know how people feel when they feel like they're not good enough.

I had 20 years of failure, stagnation, a lot of drugs and crap TV!

I only just managed to build my own website in 2005 – but it put me on a path of running my own online business and being able to stop working.

What took me from desperation to "living the dream"?

There's so many things but simply speaking it was all mindset.

Obviously there's more to it and it's an ongoing process.

It was a mixture of things. It was meditation, positive thinking, and really changing my thoughts to an abundant positive mindset.

I just want to say to everyone who's desperate out there you just need to keep going.

You are definitely capable of doing anything you want to do!

Give yourself a small goal like writing a blog post ,or putting up a website, or creating a product, or anything creative that you think is "difficult" or "beyond you".

And, if you can do that which you thought you were incapable of then that will give you that confidence to be able to do what you want in life.

Hi Rob! Such a pleasure to read your latest post! Obviously upvoted and resteemed: your life and the way you have successfully achieved your goals are really aligned with my personal development philosophy. As you mention, I, too, strongly believe that everything starts with the right mental state and attitude.
I especially like the way you explain that success doesn’t depend on our past nor does it depend on our circumstances. It does take work, but your mind is the first tool you activated. Love it!

Also, you are kind of my mentor: I first heard of Steemit thanks to you, and because I have grown to admire and respect you as an instructor, I thought I would look into it.
I took good notes of your precious tips and also read the French blog of @roxane, which is a goldmine.
The rest is history as they say.

Thank you for everything; I already look forward to reading your future posts!

Hello @solenne sorry for my late reply. A pleasure to hear from you and thank you for your kind words about my post. Yes, it all started with my mental state and it was cultivated and continues to be cultivated but there's work to be done as well. I decided that I would be responsible for my life and forget about everything else.

I promise to post more here and I very much hope that my content helps you in the future.

I like it Dear Rob, your post. Given me more idea Thanks Rob...

thank you. Glad you like it.

Thank you for this piece of wisdom ! You are right, it all comes down to having the right state of mind, but my question is, how did you change it ? what was the trigger ?

Thank you @alcy. What was the trigger? That's a hard question to answer. Serendipity. I read an article about Buddhism and saw a TV programme about NLP/self-hypnosis. I read books about NLP and Buddhism (and then went on to read about all sorts of other things: personal development, positive thinking, Taoism, mysticism, etc.) I started meditating and watching my thoughts. If what goes on inside me affects what's going on in my life, I want to make sure it's as good as possible! I hope that explains a little bit about what happened.

Oooh ok Thank you for your answer, it is a really valuable insight that our thoughts and mindset shapes our being. usually we tend to see on social medias people not showing this part where it clicked or being 'naturally' driven. So showing how you changed your state of mind is very inspiring =)

thank you so much for your kind words

Thanks for sharing
Your story make motivate me again to do the best..

thank you @mayorita and all the best luck to you in your journey
