A Contest for Welcoming and Enouraging New Steemians. [Up to 50 Steem in Prizes]

in #minnowsupport6 years ago (edited)

It's always a good time to go out in search of new users to share knowledge, and welcome them into the community. Here we are having a contest for it.

The real incentive is this: The more new users who come to steem and learn how to have enjoyable productive journeies, the more investments of time, energy, and money are also coming into the platform. If you want to succeed, and you want Steem to succeed, then you also want others to succeed, here.

In this round of the Welcoming Contest we will be finding new users who haven't seen much activity in their blogs yet, offering some encouraging words, as well as a few resources for them to help.

Here is an example of a simple Welcome Message I just left:

I responded to the text in their introduction, left a helpful link, and a link to the Writers Block discord server since they mentioned an interest in writing.

I will very much recommend you check out the previous contest posts about how to welcome new users, as well as creating a welcome message for more discussion on these subjects.

Rules

The rules for this round of the welcoming contest are:

  • Find a new user who either has just posted their introduction, or has made some effort without experiencing much activity on their blog.

  • This user has NOT already recieved a welcome message with helpful links.

  • You will leave a message responding to what their post, and offering some helpful resources.

  • Afterwards, you will leave a link in the comments of this post, to the post you commented on.

There will be a sliding scale on how much you can win per welcome message from .5 steem - 1.5 steem depending on the quality of the comment you left.

  • You can win for leaving as many as 5 welcome messages, but will not be awarded at all for simply copy pasting the same message to 5 people, or leaving a welcome message to someone who has already been warmly welcomed with a list of resources.

  • If you go above and beyond there are extra prizes available. I will leave "above and beyond" to your imagination, feel free to share all of your welcoming activities, here in the comments.

I hope to see some creativity, originality, and quality interactions in this round.

@inquiringtimes If my guitar lessons that are licensed CC0 public domain start getting flagged like you want then I'm gonna stop doing them.

I could be somebody's newbie!! :D I am still trying to find my way here on Steemit. It is a new very cool world which I can see myself being a part of in the future too. But I am still very green in how to use my time the very best here.

Thank you for creating a contest like this one.
See you around

welcome friend :) Hopefully you'll check out of the resources linked in this post, and start putting some of that into action <3 if you find your way to discord you can always drop me a message and ask questions.

Will do! Thank you!

Okay, I'll be editing this post as I do more introductions, I plan to do way more than 5 as this is kind of fun, and I hope I am not scaring them off, lol. When does this contest end? I'm realizing this is taking me longer than expected, and I don't want to do a rush job with any of these new steemerpians! I'm not sure if anyone is surviving the barrages at this point.

Great initiative / Keep spreading the good stuff! / I'll be voting up some noobs today too / peace

joining in on the contest? :)

@inquiringtimes hey dude thank you for making some good quality posts for beginners (like me) that are up to finding some usefull help from another experienced steemians that want to encourage the succes of the community by creating contests for helping all of us! i hope you have a nice day and i'll come around later to see more of your stuff!

Great initiative, @inquiringtimes!

I haven't personnaly welcomed many newcomers since I'm still a newcomer myself.

However, I would like to encourage you to check our what @doodlebear is doing - he has composed an extremely informative welcome message that he sends to selected newbies. You can find the examples here and here.

Cheers! : )

thank you for that, I'll have to look them up... maybe this contest will be a good chance for you to begin welcoming people too :)

That's an awesome initiative!

It's been a really steep learning curve for me, but I'm enjoying the journey! Just put out my 2nd post. Thanks for making this a better community!

welcome to steem! hopefully some of the resources in this post help you out a bit :)

Very goods. Always supporting these projects. :)

I'm a noob, so I don't count :D but I wanted to add my $.02. This is a great idea! I was lucky when I jumped into Steemit 4 days ago, because @aggroed is a personal friend so he showed me the ropes and helped me along. I've just brought in over 30 new Steemit members in with me (and have at least another 30- tapping their fingers on their desks waiting to be "authorized")... and I'll do my damnest to make sure they are welcomed and will help them all I can to get going... but I'm me- and they all know me. BUT.... getting encouraging help from "strangers"- from experienced Steemers would definitely be a HUGE welcome as some of them have very little knowledge of this kind of thing and are trying it on for the first time and are feeling quite overwhelmed at making the jump from the familiar facebook social media, to moving over to a brand new platform.
I hope that many of you steempros will take up this challenge and help a newie (or 30, lol) out.
.... when I figure my shit out I'll definitely jump onboard to help with the next wave that comes in :D

d

Well, I wouldn't say you don't count! Thanks for sharing your experience with us and giving the welcomers a lead :)

Hi.. First of all I would like to thank you for creating such a contest for newbies like me. It gives us a warm welcome feeling, and goes a long way!

Secondly, on the same line, I feel that the newbies need more of human touch at the start. The links and all are shared by a lot of bots as well. So considering that, I have been trying to welcome people like me to the platform by actually reading their introductions and by posting something more encouraging and human.

A few introductions where I have welcomed newbies like me are...

And so on... Not sure if you agree or find this approach useful. However, I'll continue making friends here. :)

Thanks you my friend. I have upvoted you 100%.

Thank you for the upvote, and the steem prize @inquiringtimes!!!

I feel really honored that you found my effort worth it!!!

I intend to continue welcoming new people on steemit, and just making them feel slightly at home! Cheers!

Upvoted you 100% and followed you!

Thanks for best information

Since I already created a welcome message can I just use that for atleast one or should I just create another and my second question is that can we make use of your guides by referring them to it

of course, that's why we've been making welcoming messages, and writing guides :) to share them

Okay thank you so much for the opportunity ..... Time to put on my thinking cap

Welcome to Steemit my friend.
Im a newbie too like you but i learned a lot of things being in the family.
Being here in steemit is not just about of thinking about earning figures of money in steem but for me is the big factor is what you will have being having an extended family. We can find and meet true friendship. It is really hard to stay here without talent in the first place but later little by little you could find self esteem and confident to your own flaws. You can discover yourself one moment in time. You can learn so much more than your expectation.Keep on reading guidelines and abide some laws n a certain group of people.Finding the real essence of Steemit will be on your way once you have got some friendship and earning underway.Keep.it up.I challenge you to keep moving in steem.

This is an interesting and really profitable contest. I love to support contests with my resteem service when i see them, and i ran into this one through a mention on a minnowbooster post done by @ilyastarar. And i must say, its one of the best contests i have come across on steemit so far... Keep it up

Looks like you ran into problems because you made a rude judgement of that user, not because you were being kind and welcoming

His point still stands, some users may be taken aback if they discover they were only communicated with because of a monetary incentive.

Oh wait, that's what this whole site is about, what am I talking about!

And on that rather off-putting note, I believe I will go find some people to comment on!

There is really no need to "warn" people that you are greeting them for a contest. Personally I find that approach a bit off putting, js

You know what, your comment made me interested in seeing the original post he was talking about, and doodlebear is just an asshole, her reaction had nothing to do with it being part of a contest. Who the fuck talks like that to someone? I like to pride myself on being an asshole, but congratulations @doodlebear, you demean people for participating in an economic system where dudes create a market demand for the profession you were insulting.

My bad for telling them that I'm writing to them as part of a contest, but I'd feel bad doing otherwise. I would generally prefer to give them an SP delegation if my comments were at an acceptable level to qualify for this contest, but minnowbooster is being poop lately and I can't even get a delegation for myself to avoid getting bandwidth-blocked for half the day, lol.

well, do what you will but at least if you are going to tell them it's a part of a contest, there is no need to use the word "warn".. like what is the warning part for? lol.
