The Old Dog Presents: The Mundane as Art Round 12... Door Handles And Knobs. 20 Steem in Prizes!

in #mundaneart6 years ago (edited)

Here's another mundane item that we see everywhere.....handles or knobs!

What Should You Focus on in This Round?

Don't just focus on the beauty of the handle but on the overall composition.  Is the handle rusty but interesting looking? Good! Is the wood that the handle is mounted on rotten and weather beaten? Great! Perhaps the handle is shiny and beautiful and you're focusing on the reflection in it. Fantastic.

The point is that we are looking for art. Something that you'd like to see hanging on the wall.

Here Are Some Really Examples For You

Here is a collection of photos from pixabay.com. All of them are of interest for different reasons.

I took this picture last Friday of a 450 year old handle and door. So mundane but so much to see!

Thank you for running this contest @kus-knee.

What a lovely idea.

Perhaps @englishtchrivy will enter as well.

Looks like you will have plenty to make choices from.....so very many beautiful entries.

bleujay's submission.....thank you for the opportunity to participate.

Here is the link to the post..... https://steemit.com/art/@bleujay/snfqx-principle-of-the-day

I changed my mind @bleujay - I had an photo opportunity today at an old village and I found several door knobs and handles. I had to share them :)

Lovely to hear @countrygirl.

All the best.

Cheers.

Ah I just realised this contest has passed...

Yes sorry. I'm late in creating the gallery as well! I do like your picture though!

Cheers ; )

I am still on the look out for a nice knob. I think I will end up with the knobs on my cupboard. I am in Crete at the moment, and we visited some archeological places, like Phaestos and Arolithos Every contest you did so far i could for fill the request now! :) exept for knobs :-) Old palaces did not have knobs in Greece I think? ... :-) I think the gods did not need doors to close or open haha. But old stones, nature taking over , windows gates and sand like a horn of plenty :-) And everytime I think oh wow, @kus-knee would like that. :-) Last day on crete now, I will have my eye out for knobs once again :-)

Thanks for letting me know that you are searching. I haven't had time to go through all of these entries yet. Too much work!

I may be in that area too in a couple of weeks.

you come to Crete? Have you been here before? You want advice? I used to live here. :-) with my reply I mean how steemit changes someone, it is like i see things for other people, not really minded the contest, but just the shared interest part. :-) Like a friend asks, can you look for a nice this or that. I see loads of nice this or thats for you hahaha

Another one from the OLD DOG...always fun seeing this mundane arts.

...and a post about the contest

Thanks for taking the time to enter!

It was hard to pick, but since the rules say you can only enter one, here is mine! It is on an old barn that is down the road from me here in Wisconsin. Most of the old barns around here are falling down or being torn down because they are no longer being used by farmers.

Very nice. Love it!

You always have the best photos on file and find the coolest stuff!

Thanks! Jim and I spent a lot of days together with no other goal than to take photos. I think we both knew we had to collect as many memories as we could while there was still time.

That's such a sweet hobby to do together. Maybe I should see if John would be interested in learning how to take photos. I have an older Coolpix which would be great to start on. Our iPhones aren't good for photos in my opinion.

We had fun...even though we took photos very differently! I'm not good with taking pictures with my phone, but I keep trying!

I love this one @melinda010100. The rust, the wood and especially the angle.

My partner and I also love taking photographs together. In fact, it was he yesterday who reminded me about the handles and knobs contest. He was busy clicking away and I noticed what he was shooting and then remembered the contest. He's not on Steemit but is enjoying the extra opportunities to get out and about and take photographs. 😊

Any excuse to have a photo day! I miss having someone to take photos with! Remember to enjoy each minute!

I do really enjoy it @melinda010100 and thanks for the reminder. I am very aware that time may not be as long as we'd like. 😊

The only thing I would really like in life, that I don't already have, is for John to be able to retire early so we could do more stuff like this together. It is so much more fun to have someone to share it with and I'm very fortunate that I do.

John is not interested in Steemit or cryptocurrency but he likes exploring and taking photographs so it's great fun to share that bit of it! 😊

You are a wise woman, my friend! Jim had his own interests and spending time online was not one of them, either. Keep on Steemin and when it goes back up I hope he can retire early!

That would be amazing @melinda010100. I can't quite believe that that will ever happen but some people around here seem sure it will really take off, so why not?

Retirement is always a bit tricky though is't it? how much does one actually need? Whenever I try and answer that question I always start with the income we have now which just wouldn't be feasible. Then I lose interest because, how does anyone know that really? 😁

Irrespective it would probably be a good idea to keep blogging away, just in case! 😍

Allow me to join :)
Handle on the door of Hluboká nad Vltavou castle, south of the Czech Republic (2010). The crow is pecking at the head of a dead Turk. The owner of the castle brought this scene to his family coat of arms.

A nice one from @tanata!

I think it must be a great artist who made this. Love the drama in it.

Here's my entry, @kus-knee - an amazing handle from a vintage-but-knackered safe lying discarded outside a local factory unit:

Ooooo. That's a great one @jaytaylor. I love the rust and especially the fist holding the handle. Very arty! 😁

Thank you, Gillian - it is pretty amazing, isn't it? A happy find indeed!

Very nice!

Thanks - I was pretty blown away when I found it!

This is so cool! I love it when I find stuff too....glad to see someone else who gets excited about finds!

Oh, trust me - you are NOT alone, @countrygirl! :D

wow, I really like this , the rest , with the copper , great picture ! :)

Thank you, Vee :)

Here's a photo of my knob taken in Naples, Italy.

Cheers!

Love it!

The door does look grand.

Heres my entry from a rural place away from my Hometown

I love it!

This is great with lots of textures @maheshmnj

I love how your eyes are looking at the handles and locks and then you suddenly notice the window through the gap @maheshmnj. Brilliant shot! 😊

Hi @kus-knee ! This is my entry : a very old door of Pidgoretskiy castle.

Thanks for the entry!

And that's my entry:

DSC02561.jpg

This is defininitely a piece of art as far as I'm concerned @artofwisdom. I love the different textures of the wood, rust and peeling paint and then the blue is the icing on the cake! Lovely work! 😊

Thanks for this great competition..I have a collection of photos which contains old door handles..I choose this one to participate with it from a door in the old town in tunisia..

Very nice @kouba01! Do you live in Tunisia? You were one of the winners of the last round with a photo from there!

Hello my Friend , yeah i am from Tunisia but i am living in France . Nice to know you..

I visited Tunisia some years ago. We enjoyed it very much.

How was the weather when you went, is it very humid over their?

I'd like to have this handle.....nice patina.

Oooh that's another one I'm a huge fan of! Walls and now door knobs.. if you do doors next I'm in deep trouble. Too many to choose from 😧

Here is one I took in the Forbidden City, Beijing, China.
Forbidden City1.jpg

So ornate and one of a kind for sure....I've never seen anything like these. They have a huge presence. :)

I’m gonna give it a try.
Unfortunately the last picture is basically what I had in mind. Gonna squeeze some brain juice : )

Don’t worry, my photo doesn’t count! Different wood, different grain etc....

Your 450 year old handle and door is a winner!!

It doesn't qualify for the challenge! :) I'm waiting for yours. Maybe from a barn door in the Turkey Point area?

Mayhaps. I do need a day trip this week. :)

I went to Westfield Village today, in Rockton. I found many door knobs. I hope you like this one.

What a find......lovely. ^__^

So glad you were able to find something afterall.

Cheers.

Thank you @bleujay ..... maybe we'll be "hanging" out together soon :)

Hi kus-knee, I love your subject of the challenge, so here is my entry:

https://steemit.com/mundaneart/@vee2180/the-old-dog-presents-the-mundane-as-art-round-12-door-handles-and-knobs-doorhandle-of-le-notre-dame-in-paris

This is the doohandle of "Le Notre Dame" in Paris, it is very exesive, but it fits into the decor.
I loved the color combination of the roses in green-turned copper against the shiny copper of the lion's head

I really think this is so beautiful the materials and the work in it stunning!

zeg ik reageerde voor ik zag dat die foto van jou was ! hahaha typisch :-) waarom jouw kroon niet ,

Well , mijn kroon is niet zo mooi ! :)

wat zeg jij nou! :-o Het is de deur knop van Ma bon fille en Ekeren le Belgique !

de orginaliteit, en het werk is 10 000 x schoonderder.

:) dank u zene , vond die andere deurklink een juweel

Very nice. Thanks!

I shot this photo on Fuerteventura, Spain.

IMG_0759.jpg

Thanks a lot!

The spiral door handle is magical ~ Far from being mundane.

Australian door handles are pretty much replicas of door handles from other countries. I'm wondering now if there is such a thing as an authentic Aussie door handle. On the look out now @kus-knee. 🦋

Please do report back with what you find. Please remember that editing is allowed and that we're looking for art.

Beauty!

Here is my entry for Mundane Art, Round 12.

A picture of contrasting colours and textures as fresh, spring leaves drape themselves over an old, rusty door handle/knocker.

wmRustydoorknocker.png

That's a beauty!

Thank you @kus-knee I am fond of this image. 😊

I love this @treedeehunter. I've always liked this style and how it rusts. Nice entry :)

Thanks very much @countrygirl I particularly like the textures

I love this one @trudeehunter. There is something about the proportions that make it really stand out. No idea why but my mind expects the leaves to be bigger so their size really draws in the eye and, as you mentioned, so does the contrast of the colours and textures. Great shot! 😊

Many thanks for your interesting observations and lovely comments @gillianpearce Much appreciated.

Hello @kus-knee ! I want to share with you the photograph of the antique door handles!

dtfyguhijok.jpeg

Thanks for the photo. I just realised now that you're the sister of @olgy-art!

Yes, you`re right!

here's mine Old Dog!
thanks to @bleujay for the tip!
am on time ^ ^ yey!

thank you and thanks a lot for the tip <3!

Pretty....I love a blue door....and that knob is unusual :)

it's an acorn leaf :)

thanks!
long time no see!

I know.....I thot we used to chat before but I couldn't remember....I was off steemit for about 8 months and came back just before christmas. :)

yes we used to
I see, well at least you're back
that's the most important thing

see you around!

Definitely :)

Cool idea, it looks like oak leaf.

Thanks for this great competition.
this is the door lock at my grandfather's house in Indonesia. who is over 90 years old.

Thanks for your submission!

this is so feminine and gracious like it a lot

Hi @kus-knee, "Time to enter the contest :)"

I'm from Indonesia and this is the "Door Handles And Knobs" of the front door of my brother's house.

Original! Using Vivo V7 +

Thanks for sending it in!

What I really like about the concept of mundaneart is that it forces you to look at the spaces that you inhabit with new eyes. I don’t know how many times every day I cross this door at work, but only today I noticed how huge and grey it looked and how crippled and little the handle was compared to the rest of the structure. Looking almost like a handle suspended on a overcast sky.
Anyway, here’s my shot.

Have a good one, Old Dog : )
AA28EBDB-97A2-403D-A3EA-3614EF7341A2.jpeg

Good to see you getting involved! The handle looks almost misplaced!

I have seen many door nobs at auctions and estate sales. I can see how they are collectible. Question - how good of a camera do I need to someday participate in the mundane art? My smart phone camera is more entry level. Samsung J7. Blessings @kus-knee

It doesn’t HAVE to be a great camera. Make some and send it in.

I will have to search for one :-) But is it al kind of nobs, like also the kind on cupboards or drawers? Or really just on doors?

Drawer and cupboard knobs are gooooood!

another great creation beloved friend @ kus-knee, I love mudano art, congratulations for the success, I will see with what photography I can accompany
I wish you a great day dear friend.

Thanks so much!

@kus-knee - Glad to be joining your competition...

Would like to submit this door handle in the shape of a key
(which was on a door in Nafplio, Greece)

This is a very cool door.

Let me go with this one from an old post

Source: Steemitphotochallenge 📷 - Entry 2 To the Transformer

I love this.....!! lol......very technical. :)

haha.. thanks. I thought many people will go with entries with the more antiquated looks. I decided otherwise. :-)

Staying current is sooooo important.... and it looks good on you. And plus it's art.

where did you take a picture of a 450 year old door? no locations exist around hear that I know of.

Hello everyone! thanks @kus-nee for this new contest, here I leave my participation, I took this photo taking advantage of the days of Easter at the Basilica de la Chiquinquirá in my city Maracaibo

20180402_130451-1.jpg

so colorful in the background and nice contrast with the wrought iron.

Oooooo. I LOVE this one @kus-knee. I took a great Arts and Crafts Movement door handle a couple of weeks ago but I'm going to have a good luck around before submitting one. 😊
