Hive Open Mic ( #openmic ) is a global community of music lovers, for music fans and musicians. Each week is a new invitation for expression and connection. We welcome all walks of life, all languages, and all musical genres. Every contributor can be proud of the fact we are building a live music movement, celebrating songs with an international audience.
At a time in human history when many are lonesome and fearful, it is vital that we bring the music to help us harmonize. Our community is real proof of Global Harmony happening here and now. As we gather together harmoniously, through artistic expression, we create bridges of connection. This connection crosses all distances, reaching around the world.

I appreciate the Hive platform as a haven for creative expression and genuine connection. I'm thrilled with the opportunity to build the Hive Open Mic community, hosting our weekly live music event. Here, we share a virtual stage, enjoying songs from many nations, in multiple languages. At the end of every week, I have the pleasure of presenting the highlights. This is a real honor.

Hive Open Mic serves two main audiences: musicians and music fans. Musicians include singer-songwriters, instrumentalists, and other artists expressing themselves musically. We welcome all skill levels, from amateur to professional. Music fans include avid listeners, art appreciators, and community leaders.
A Weekly Event Celebrating Live Music
Every week is a new invitation for musicians and music fans to connect through live music. At the end of each week, outstanding entries are showcased in a highlights post. All artists receive upvotes individually, along with encouraging comments. They also benefit through a tip jar, powered by valuable upvotes.

Why is there a weekly theme?
This is a pressure-free invitation, prompting musicians to journey together into the creative space. For example, our "Fire Starter" theme brings to mind fire and heat, which might inspire: "Light My Fire" by the Doors, or "Start Me Up" by Rolling Stones, or something new. Participants share the energy of the collective current.
Artists working together create a momentous wave: a movement. Their synchronized efforts deliver an energetic presence that is cohesive and colossal. Our "Song of the Sea" theme brought songs that were mystical and emotional, for example. In this way, we create a set of songs that connect us on a vibrational level.
The weekly theme ensures that all songs are original, made specifically for this event. This lets the listeners know that the music is truly live and vibrant, worthy of their attention and applause. Themes also give the audience a meaningful statement about the music, making it timely, relevant, and relatable.
What are the incentives for participating?
Participating musicians earn rewards through upvotes and supportive comments on their posts, helping to improve reputation scores and develop a fanbase. Musicians gain additional encouragement through our weekly highlights curation. They also share a tip jar that is generated from the payout of each week's invitation.
Hive Open Mic is not a contest, although it encourages excellence. Musicians often display improvements over time, as we perform, present, and promote our music—then we prosper. Each of us realizes opportunities to improve through our practice and our presence.
Our event is inspired by Steemit Open Mic. The Steemit Open Mic event hosted 100+ episodes, honoring 1000+ songs, reaching 10,000+ listeners. However, its success was largely dependent on its reward pool, which ultimately led to its end, when the STEEM dollar value declined. By contrast, Hive Open Mic survives and thrives on its art—this is a music celebration; not a contest.
In the bigger picture, we're seeing Global Harmony happen here, through our embrace of music from many nations, with multiple languages, touching hearts through the arts. Hive Open Mic is a worldwide movement fueled by passion, instead of money, and this makes it a pure love offering.
Guidelines
A Set of Requests to Amp Up Your Music
- Produce - Begin your video with the words: “This is Hive Open Mic Week [1] and I am [@username],” substituting the current week and your own username, and then you'll sing your song.
- Present - Post your video on Hive, writing the story of your creative journey with the song, and tagging #openmic.
- Promote - Share your link in the comments section of Sunday's open mic invitation in order to be highlighted.
- Prosper - Enjoy harmony with the Hive community by engaging with musicians and music fans through upvotes and encouraging comments.
