Still, I Shudder (Original Poetry)

in #poetry2 years ago (edited)

Summer lingers,
but too soon
it will brush its lips
across our foreheads
with one last warm breeze,

a sort of goodnight’s kiss
with a promise to return.
The short march to
the death of winter solitude,
I haven’t yet come to terms.

Still, I shudder at the thought.
I take our beagle to the woods
and we savor the last bits of you
drink in the mottled green and
fill my lungs with the perfume
of warm, mossy Earth.

Soon, these memories
will be all we have
and we pray
the daydreams we harbor
will again transport us
faithfully to another spring.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Lucky you can feel the four seasons in your country. Meanwhile in my country there are only two seasons, namely the dry season and the rainy season. I have never seen real snow in my life because in my country there is no winter. I think of course you have a lot of plans for the seasons in your country. Have a nice day, Eric.

Winter definitely makes you appreciate the warmth of spring when it finally arrives! You have to experience snow at least once, I hope you get a chance to. Have a great week Eliana!

One can feel the strong message the lines of words in this poem is trying to passed across

Though few, we mostly drown in sad moments. Mindful moments are very important and take our lives to another level. Will definitely get a copy in the days ahead.

It is definitely what we pray for and thanks for sharing this lovely poetry.

Thanks for reading!

Perhaps that is how it defines HOPE. It is the hope that makes us alive, to do something, even if we fail, it is the hope that tells us to go for the 2nd, 3rd chance, and so on.

I think you're right, that is a great example of hope in action, looking forward to a better day.

Yup, this is the way all of us northerners are feeling right now. With the exception of a few crazies who look forward to the coming cold and grey, so long as they have enough snow for sledding. I like white Christmases and a handful of skiing trips, beyond that I would happily be a snowbird :)

Everyone, I mean everyone, had their grills fired up today. Labor Day weekend is such a psychological bookend to summer in this part of the world. Really the only people here who look forward to winter are those people who are into winter sports. We have some people who are in the middle who just deal with it and try to stay positive. Then there are those people like me who are already looking forward to next spring. Lol. We tried the snowbird life this year and I highly recommend it. We hope we can pull it off again in 2023 but we're not totally sure.

Oh, same here, the smell of bbq was strong on the air :)

There's a line from a Pearl Jam song that always runs through my head when I get sick of winter (which is about two days after the new year haha) 🎶No matter how cold the winter, there's a springtime ahead🎶

For now I'm just hoping for an extended fall!

Hope of a new spring will carry you far! We always hope for an extended fall too but it never happens. Lol.

Seasonal change in life, moving from Autumn to Winter some from Summer to Autumn, poetry speaks in a variety of seasons. Very descriptive enjoyable read.

!LUV To a new Week!

Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it Joan. It's interesting how the seasons offer of a glimpse of unending renewal, a separate cycle within the own cycle of our lives.

Hopeful by nature we trust within that we will greet the new seasons.

Have a wonderful month ours is Spring, with Fall up North, nature always in balance.

It reminds me of this song....

Most definitely a descriptive song, another golden hit.

Poems always have a deep meaning. Summers are longer this time, probably because of climate change all over the world

I wish summer were longer here. Climate change is having the opposite effect here in the upper midwest of North America. We're having hotter but shorter summers and more severe winters.

The weather here is cloudy and cooler as to the summer. Thus, I once more realized with your poem that the summer is going to say good bye.

Although autumn officially begins on Sept 20th here Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer in Minnesota. We only have 154 frost-free days per year, on average.

Yea, I don't feel warm until the end of the summer.

Most of us have experience a time of perfect peace which is true but as we know nothing last forever, other things follows in such situations as well which we also experience as humans.
