I made it to Letchworth parkrun for the second week in a row. It was a cooler morning, but I still set off on the bike in minimal kit. I may have to take a long sleeve top to other events as winter kicks in, but I don't like to be carrying more than I need. It was actually warm enough if you were active. You can see it was overcast with the sun trying to break through. It rained around lunch time.
There were 122 runners, which is about the same as last week. I managed to move up the table a bit this time. I've actually improved my time most times I've run there. I set off fairly fast and got into a fairly good rhythm. As expected I slowed down on the hill, especially the second time, but it was feeling good. I didn't get overtaken much, but I didn't pass many either. Everyone runs their own race, but I think most of us are at least a bit competitive.
My official time was 26:36, but Endomondo had it a little quicker. Either is good for me. It's my best of the year and only about a minute down on my all-time best from 4 years ago. I did start running late. I still have a dream of breaking 25 minutes and maybe I can achieve that. There are runners in their 60s there who can do it.
The ride home was very relaxed as I was lacking in energy by then. I did have breakfast before I left home, but I also rode about 12 miles yesterday. I want to run tomorrow too as preparation for my 10km event in 2 weeks. I didn't do a mid-week run this week as the weather was not looking great.

That's a very small attendance for a park run, I can tell you are not close to any towns. The Burnley one is always over 300 sometimes 400.
It seriously looks like winter down there, its nice and bright here for a change. I just cut all the grass and deserve a cup of tea now :)
They seem to vary a lot. Bigger towns will get more. Letchworth is fairly small and there are others fairly nearby. It's raining steadily now.
Well done mate!
Don’t forget to do a long run tomorrow, but this time fully aerobical.
Keep the pace at 6’/km and enjoy...
11km would be great

That's what I'll aim for. Today was a sprint for me. On the 10km race I'll be happy with 55 minutes.
I’m sure you will do much better...
I propose you the following:
For Wednesday, try to do 5 or 6 repetitions of 1000m at 4’50”/km pace,
Resting 1’30” in between reps.
Also, do it as well on the week of your race, 4 days before, not less
You should get less than 52’ in the race.
Cheers

I'd struggle to maintain 4'50" pace for any distance. I'll aim to do some sort of intervals anyway. Thanks
Well done on your time, I did parkrun in 26.50 today which was ok as I’ve got a cold but I dream of getting sub 25 too. My best time is 25.05 over a year ago but I can’t seem to get anywhere near it! Good luck for your sub 25 x
Cheers. You too
Well done, Steve! This week Guildford was over 500 people and there were a couple of times when I felt a bit held back by politeness/people running together and hogging the path. Ah well, it's supposed to be fun! My chip time today was 38:23 which is better than both the other times so I'm slobbing happily on the sofa :)
I expect you were not even last. It's a good atmosphere. I quite like our run as it's not too crowded. I'm impressed by the dedication of the volunteers.
I was going to post a comment that 122 seems like a lot of people to come out every week and go for a run. Then I read @slobberchops comment and realized that maybe I am way off!
Some of them are huge, but I quite like this one. I will try to get to some others in the area for variety
No need to be a masochist to run well... but a bit of pain could make you stronger. ;)

You are in such great shape.
Keep it up and don't overdo it. After all you are not as young as you used to be. (I threw that in there, haha.. because you see I always think you are younger than you are.)
That photo is great too with the clouds breaking. What a wonderful day.
As I'm the wrong side of 50 I have to expect to be going downhill, but I can still fight the effects of age. I'm having fun anyway
I think those age numbers are inaccurate depending on lifestyle.
You are on the right side of 50.
Nice one - well done with the time!
I prefer to run in such conditions as I heat up very quickly, but I understand some people perform better when it is warm.
Keep up the good work! 🙂
Always a good way to start out a Saturday! I did a 5k here this morning and it was still so humid it was hard to get going fast. I'm searching for another one in about a month with the hopes that cooler conditions will most certainly help my finish times. Wishing you well as you prep for the 10k!
Looks like we have quite different weather. It will just get colder here now. Not sure I'll do parkrun as much when the mud gets bad.
Well done buddy.
