in #steem-help7 years ago (edited)

Since joining Steemit do you have more questions than answers? This post has the answers to questions like:

  • Where does the money come from?
  • How to I post images and videos?
  • What is the difference between Steem Dollars and Steem?
  • How do I turn Steem/SBD into cash?
  • What is the difference between posting and curating?
  • How do I get noticed on Steemit?
  • What is the proper etiquette on Steemit?

These questions and many more are answered on a site called SteemitHelp.net. If you're new or experienced on the Steemit platform I highly recommend you spend some time reading through it's pages. There is a wealth of useful information there and helpful tips for getting Steemit to work for you.

I want to thank @thecryptofiend for putting this great website together for all of us Steemians. Great body of work and so useful.

How To Behave On Steemit

The first thing you should read is the section on etiquette. I mention this first because it is so important when joining a new community that you have a good reputation. This is very is very important in this social context where people get an impression of you only by how you conduct yourself online. You may unknowingly be hurting yourself if you're unaware of the guidelines we follow here.

Here are a few key things listed in that section of the site.

Thanks for the information, very helpful for things that are not in want

You should read all the details of etiquette here

So much to learn. How come some get hundreds of votes almost immediately? Are automated bots upvoting or maybe bots are searching google? I am seeing seeing so many good posts only earning a few dollars or a few pennies. I think I am more confused than ever. Haha. Thank you for sharing even more useful information! :D

While there are some bots on Steemit that upvote some people there are also people who put in the work. Some people have been on Steemit everyday for over a year interacting with the community and building a group of loyal followers that love their content. They worked hard to get where they are and they have fans of their content who upvote them.

You can't expect to join a social platform like this and earn money by making a few posts. It takes work and writing a lot of good content. Understand?

Post & Run? Elaborate please?

@ jbouchard12 check those links out, they speak volume:)

Posting with little to no community action or involvement in/with your post's comments, chat, etc.

To post and run is someone who makes a post, hits the Publish button and then never comes back to the site for hours, days, or weeks to answer comments.

Like if you never got a response back to this comment you just made until so much time had passed you didn't even remember you made the comment so long ago. That is someone who posts and runs.

You can read more details on the site for each one of these bullet points. That's why I put a link there

I think @luzcypher might mean is not replying to comments

I recently flagged a comment that was explicitly racist. I didn't comment on it because I didn't want to get into an argument with someone who wasn't behaving properly on a public website. Do you think it was wrong of me not to comment? I couldn't think of what to say that wouldn't turn things ugly.

@renodakota You did right by not saying anything..more fire equal more flames!

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

I have never flagged anyone ever and don't ever plan to. When I see something I don't like I just ignore it because it's not worth getting into a debate about it. I have better thing to do with my time.

I adhere to Morgan Freeman's take on how to combat racism.

“Stop talking about it. I’m going to stop calling you a white man. And I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You’re not going to say, “I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.” Hear what I’m saying?” -- Morgan Freeman

Yeah, most of the time I just eye roll and move on. I did feel the comment I flagged would be hurtful to people so I flagged. Thanks for your response.

Thank you, this was very helpful. Have been struggling with some of these questions as I am new, good to know the etiquette :).
