One year on Steemit: a bit of looking back and forward

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!

I cannot believe it has already been one year since I reluctantly signed up for this strange project called Steemit where - as a friend of mine told me - I would get paid for writing posts. At that time, I did not have the slightest idea of what I was in for but I think it is now safe to say that Steemit has changed my life in a way.

Just a few weeks into my new Steemit life, after I started to cooperate with some respected names of this platform, I made the crucial decision to abandon all the projects I was working on back then to become what can only be described as a full-time Steemian.

Today, one year later, I am still here. Steeming every day, engaging with the community, having fun with my Steemit friends, writing posts, commenting, powering up, curating, participating in contests, organizing contests myself... Steemit has become an unexpectedly important part of my life and - as weird as it may sound - I can hardly imagine my life without it right now.

Looking Back

During those 365 days, I have written 374 posts and 6,005 comments and got 1,614 followers. I have accumulated over 6,190 Steem Power (through steeming only, I have not bought any) and reached the reputation of 69 (I actually turned 69 just today thanks to this post).

I have evolved from a plankton to a minnow and from a minnow to a dolphin. I have made several minor withdrawals of Steem and SBD (you have to cash out sometimes when you do this thing for living) but never powered down.

Last but not least, I have met many amazing and inspirational people here (some of them even in real life already) and made some really good friends who might well be my friends forever. I am not going to mention any names here, they know who they are. Thank you so much guys, I am really happy and grateful to have you in my life.

I would also like to say a huge thank-you to all of my supporters and followers - I would not be writing this post if there were not for you. Thank you!

Looking Forward

My plans for future? Well, they can be pretty much summed up in the little well-worn phrase that you all have heard so many times and that I keep telling people here too - "Steem on!" :)

That is right. Despite all the bad news and numbers from the crypto world that we have been flooded with in the past couple of months and despite the consequent overall decline in activity here on Steemit, I still have a very strong faith in this thing and I am going to keep doing everything I have been doing so far, possibly with even greater intensity.

Hopefully, I will have more time for my own blog and thus will be able to improve the quality of my own posts and to engage even more with the community and my followers.

I will also carry on with my personal campaign where I am trying to explain my friends and family members the benefits of joining us, where I am trying to make them leave the mainstream social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and relocate their creativity to this amazing platform where it will only be them and the community who will benefit from their effort, no third parties.

I am going to do all I can to stay a full-time Steemian because to me, a former staff writer, being here feels more like a hobby and fun than a job. At the same time, moreover, Steemit allows me to live the nomadic, free and adventurous life that I value so much and that I am very grateful for.

I do not usually set specific goals for myself but let me make an exception today and use this post as a kind of commitment for my Steemit future. Looking at what I have achieved during the first year and considering that I would like to Steem even more in the next year, I am setting my quantifiable goals to reaching the reputation of at least 73 and accumulating at least 20,000 Steem Power.

I am also hoping to keep meeting awesome people from all over the world here, making new friends and getting involved in more amazing projects that contribute to the healthy growth of the platform, help needy people around the world or support conservation efforts and wildlife protection as these are the topics that I am highly interested in.

Thank you guys for being a part of all of this. Stay awesome and Steem on! :)

Happy anniversary!

You are a great example of how it's possible to "make it" on Steem if you are willing to put in the effort. But keep up the great work, and good luck with your goals! I think 20,000SP is doable, especially in today's markets. I'm not so sure about your rep goal tough, since rep is on a logarithmic scale (like Ritcher's scale, or the pH scale), so getting to 73 is quite a long journey. But I hope you prove me wrong ;)

Thank you so much my friend! I know you celebrated your second anniversary just a few days before ;) Well, I did some raw calculations and estimates and if I manage to steem as hard as I am planning to, the 73 rep should be, hopefully, realistic too. But only time will tell of course :)

Ah, that's good to hear. I had just assumed that rep 73 was unobtainable for us mortal users that don't have several hundred thousand SP backing us up!

I think it is obtainable but working for (and thus having support of) someone with those several hundred thousands SP helps a lot :D I would (will) be really happy to welcome you in the 70 club by the end of the next year my friend :)

Getting to the 70 club is definitely one of my goals, but I will need to step up my productivity a bit for that to happen :P

Well, you are at almost 68.5 now so I think you can make it to 70 by your third Steemit birthday ;) Your posts are always pleasure and fun to read and you have built yourself a solid follower base so I am pretty sure you will reach that milestone. Fingers crossed!

Congrats on 1 year and reaching 69! This truly is the best place to be! Steem on!

Thank you Melinda :) Steem on!

Congratulations my friend... I hope this was the milestone the Crypto markets were waiting for (; Steem On!

Thank you @armentor! Haha that would be nice :))) Steem on!

"I accumulated over 6,190 Steem Power (through steeming only, I have not bought any)"

Wow. Just wow. This is so inspirational and motivating. I just can't imagine earning so much Steem Power in a year without buying any.

I wish you an awesome journey here in the future and I hope you will have at least 20k SP when you will reach your 2nd anniversary here.

Cheers!

Thank you for these nice words. And I am glad you found this post inspirational - that was my intention, to show other people it really is possible to earn some decent amount of Steem by "just" steeming ;) All the best to you too!

Blahopřeji ti ;-). Taky si myslím, že Steemit má pěknou budoucnost. Řadím ho mezi hlavní nadějné projekty mého budoucího živobytí.
Po zotavení trhu jeho hodnota a smysl značně vzroste.
Steem on the Sun ;-)

Díky moc! Všiml jsem si, že do toho v poslední době taky dost šlapeš :D Tak ať nám elán vydrží :)

Cyklista musí šlapat, jinak by se zastavil v polovině kopce a to by byla škoda :-) Dáme to ;-)

Hezky řečeno :D Tak ať dojedem až do cíle ;)

Congratulations, best wishes for upcoming year. Namaste

Díky moc! Myslím, že mezi delfínem a velrybou je tam ještě kosatka :D ;) Je třeba zůstat pokorný a doufat, že celá tahle sranda ještě nějaký ten rok vydrží. Baví mě to.

Congratulations! Being a full-time steemian with such prices makes you a true hero in my eyes! I hope you don't have to move to Zimbabwe or Burundi at some point only so you can afford making a living through Steemit ;)

Wow, a true hero... good to know I am not the "sleazeball" and "nikka" anymore as you said in this post. As hard as it was to ignore that post where you offended me in a very mean way and accused me of things that were never true, I did it. And let me remind you it was actually you who wanted to end our friendship and who suggested unfriending, unfollowing and ignoring each other not just on Steemit but on all social media. And now you come to my blog with this comment?! I know you change opinions and moods very fast but I don´t. Once I decide something, I stick to it. So just get back to the mutual ignorance. That´s what you wanted after all.

Who asked you to change opinion? Make no mistake, I dislike you as much as before. However, I will comment, vote and un-vote your posts whenever I feel like it. You talk like you have control over me or something. Nigga please!!!

PS. You will always be the sleazeball who advised me to write off my son and move on with my life when I broke up with his mom. You died in my eyes back then if you wanna know the truth. You were also the one who left sneaky and bitting public comments to my posts here when you saw me having the support of whales. You were never a good friend. You invited me on Steemit only when you had the support of that whale that you work for in exchange of his vote. You didn't tell me shit about it before that. Why? Because you wanted to show off and see me failing. Learn btw that I made $150 per article at List25 and like a fool I begged Juan to give you a raise and he kept telling me that Sayed considers you a horrible writer. You are one of the worse human beings out there and I really hope Steem fails so you go back writing articles for 50$ each. Friend my ass!!!

Not going to waste my time by arguing with someone whose only pleasure in life is reveling in these internet skirmishes. Let alone responding to all those lies. This is my last comment for you. Happy advent to you. Hopefully, yo will find some happiness in life one day and stop being so bitter and irritated.

Good boy. I love to see weak little men like you acting like the "bigger man" when facts haunt them down. I hope you stop being as cheap, two-faced, insecure, with a communistic slave mentality too one day. Adios!

Oh la la, someone who wouldn't waste anymore time on me is upset as fuck!!!!!!! Now we both know that I own your soul, boy! Mission accomplished ha ha ha ha. OWNED :)))))))))))
