Hi, this is @itsjessamae and i am a minnow but "whale" inside and i am speaking in the words of @steemsecrets.
It is very inclining to measure the "substance of a steemian" and perhaps, "the treatment of a steemian", by virtue of their wallet size or "amount of steem power".
So today, let me tell you a thing or three about "THE WALLETS".
Hahaha, i won't say much, but let's play with "3 giant scenarios", then, you can say much!
Number 1. There are potential whales and investors hanging out on steemit as minnows.
- Yes, a whale may want to hang out on steemit as a minnow from the onset, to find out what steemit is truly about and whether he should bring in his 300 BTC and become whale.
- A whale may even want to hangout on steemit as a minnow, on an alternative account, to get a feeling, of how it is like to be minnow or perhaps, to determine who his true lovers are etc
- hahaha, a whale who is under-studying "steemit" and the true state of its community, may decide to hangout on steemit as "minnow" on a "separate", even anonymous account.
Number 2. There are minnows who have the influence of a whale.
- Yes, how about veteran minnows or brother-to-a-whale minnow etc, who simply have to go behind-the-scenes, to get a post "whale-voted"
- Or veteran @curie curators etc who simply have to submit a post to a guild, to flood such post with whale votes
- Or minnows who do well in content curation and has "a whale" follow his vote. Or minnows who have won the trust of whales over time and is now helping with a whale's curation?
Number 3. There are ex-whales that are currently either minnows or dolphins and can be back as whale as soon as tomorrow. "Yes, there are!"
e.g
- Whales aren't exempted from power-downs and can power-down to minnow levels, only to become whales again at a later date.
- hahaha, Minnows can experiment whalehood and go back to being minnows. "Yes, there are ex-whales".
Now, what am i saying?
Before you hurriedly tell the next minnow to "hush" because you feel he has a minnow-size wallet; "hush!"
In real life, among other things, there are virtues like respect; so, treat "steemit" like you would "real life".
Overall, stop spending too much time looking at wallets. As much as it is a bare blockchain, there is still a privacy model integrated into it.
Moreso, there are bigger things than wallets. Pay more attention to the substance of the "human" behind the steemian.
Be whale inside-out.
Identify that being minnow is no stumbling block as "true influence" can be attained by virtue of "YOU".
"The idea is let everyone be whale to you because you are whale to me".

Wow! Respect is reciprocal and you give it to gain it. It is a very weighty talk and only those who understand this are able to appreciate the neccesity of the word 'respect'. Give it to all, great or small, whale or minnow, and then when it's your turn, you would get it because you deserved it by earning it.
These are words that makes a lot of sense, no discrimination of any kind, just plain respect for everyone.

Yeah its me, I always look at their age on steemit if how many months they are already in here then next is their wallets maybe as a minnow in #steemit we cannot avoid our selves looking at those tabs to other steemians since we earn less than them. But because of you @steemsecrets you explained it clearly that we minnows are also a whale inside. And I should not always look to their wallets my bad

There are people whom I followed for their wallet, they never reply to your comments nor acknowledge your presence on their blog, day to day, month to month. They are so arrogant because they feel too 'big', they have big wallets so every other person is insignificant. You know what I do, I hit the 'unfollow' button. @surpassinggoogle has thousands of followers and yet makes out time for each. Replying comments, cracking jokes even and remembering names too! Is that not awesome? Do you then wonder why they awesomely love him? Because he is beautiful inside out.
You can say that again. They snob you totally, ignore you. Terry is just one of the few that really really respects people and you can see the amazing effects..... Everywhere he goes, he pulls crowds.

I agree, for me its the word "RESPECT" that matters even outside #steemit. It's a magic word and a good deed to show to everyone around no matter if you are a whale or a minnow, both are humans that needs to be respected.
I am learning a lot from this initiative already, and I really appreciate the "minds" behind this wonderful cause to help minnows get the required information to be able to survive and be triumphant in this community.
Both of you guys are correct, being steemian doesn't work only inside "steemit.com" platform but the real place is outside it.
It is okay to look at wallets but not necessarily measure our treatment of them based on those things. In real life, an aspiring janitor can be CEO of the same company tomorrow

Respect should not be given on the basis of the wallet size, reputation or those whom you know. It should be given to EVERYONE i mean everyone. This is wonderful! As a minnow, I don't really interact with other Steemians based on their wallet. I interact based on how I feel about that steemian, I look through their souls and not through their wallet for I believe that each one of us is a minnow but "whale inside". Hello there @itsjessamae and @steemsecrets! Glad to be one of the first commenters! (doesn't always happen haha). I never thought of these 3 scenarios, I may have already gotten in touch with a future whale or an ex-whale. :D And yes, one must not judge a Steemian because of his or her wallet. This is the same thing in real life. We never want to be treated because of our monetary worth because we are priceless as humans.
Thank you also for emphasizing respect. I'm actually happy that this virtue is being praticed in Steemit. If we will look at other social media platforms (and I wouldn't mention what these are), there's a lot of disrespect and negativity going on. Here in Steemit, I see more positivity and people do respect each other (with a few exceptions).

That is the best way to go, just forget about your wallet for now and concentrate on writing and making a mark. With time, the wallets will grow.
The increasing number of steemit users is truly amazing but I also can't help but notice the increasing number of minnows, myself included. Our upvotes mustn't define our worth. :)

This particular series is so captivating cos it bothers mostly on whales. Av always heard of power downs which can pull a whales weight down to minnow and i think av witnessed it before, but the good thing remains the fact that, no matter how low a whale is reduced, he can rise again in the twinkle of an eye cos once a whale is always a whale. And yes! Thanks to @itsjessamae for this thought provoking @steemsecrets on whales

You are correct @blackempror @surpassinggoogle nailed it. No one can underestimate the ability of a minnow. Minnow completes the life cycle in ocean same with steemit. The size of the body(Minnow) doesn't validate the size of the heart (Whale)

One aspect here
While all the secrets shared so far have been very good advice, this one speaks to me the deepest so far.
I absolutely do not like when people are measured by the amount of money they have instead by what kind of human being they are. I do believe that we can tell pretty quick what kind of person we are dealing with when following an account. And to follow someone because they are "rich" is just so sad.
I think the only reasons to check someone's wallet is to make sure that a transfer arrived or to see if they have enough bandwidth to post or need a bit of help to get there.
Exactly what we try to adjust in this process here.
And we are seeing new and complete things here. It seems that you are completing a puzzle of new things. It is quite vague yet but I believe you are creating something significant. That's why I created a post about your "vision"

As a minnow, i love this post because respect is important. Always. I am saving up SP and some day, i hope to be a whale to buth i realize that being a whale does not make my posts any better then they are now. They may be worth more on votes buth have similar content as the posts i am making now. I love to watch other steemians wallets and dream abouth beeing on that level myself because that means i will never have to mind my limited bandwidth anymore and i would be able to mean something for steemians that are making great posts buth are not found by the audience they deserve. I think beeing a whale with the mindset of a minnow would be a nice combination to keep the community growing.

I have been a Language Teacher, an Esl Teacher, an Interpreter for over 21 years, and I know and have taught so many students of mine (ex students now) about respect, honesty and hard work!
I work in three different places, and I usually teach my students (High School) that the worst kind of disrespect is when you disrespect yourself, I also focus then on the second commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself, so love yourself first!
what I understand about whales is that they may be powerful here on #steemit but they are also humans, with feelings and capable of being hurt and tired.
Human as they are they are not exempted with the challenges of life, they do face problems but still as human he is bestowed with the ability to solve any problems that would come.
That's how I know and see about WHALES.
For one who understands life a little bit, they get to know that there is no level ground. Whaleship or minnowship is not what makes success out of one's life but the much impact you are able to make with the position. Nothing but impact, is what lasts forever.

Agree! Heart should be the substance of the person not the wallet. I remember, the statement that "people don't care how much you know until you know how much you care" - John Maxwell. Being whale has no effect if you have a minnow size heart. It is good to be a minnow in size but the heart is whale.

Terry, your words are ever so deep and I marvel how someone so young could be imbued with so much wisdom but again I remember King Solomon...... Hahaha and I understand that God is still in the business of imparting. Yes the human behind the wallet is mostly important, the flow of that heart, the essence of that heart, it's beat, the very nature embedded in that being. That beautiful person inside. Sometimes I read posts and I am weeping, I am broken and then I am pieced back together again. It's awesome because it is not the wallet that matters now, but the currents and currents of love flowing from that steemit 'human'. It's wonderful Terry.
I was about to emphasize the same statement up there! :) yeah we have to refocus our attention not to the wallets but to the steemians behind those wallets who are humans trying to make a difference with their lives through this platform. We are the same. Everytime I read post I'm crying, I can feel the emotion behind that steemian. Hehehe. But you're right in saying it is not the wallet that matters now, but the currents and currents of love flowing from that steemit 'human'. We should focus on the substance of the article and not the wallet size! :)

This is really an encouraging post, their are potential whales but presently minnows, I've had a lecturer told me that the difference between a dullard and a genius is Time, what genius did in 1mins leave it to a dullard, it might take hours even days but will definitely achieve what the genius achieved. So now the difference between us minnows and whales is Time and we'll definitely get there. I am a whale inside, thanks @steemsecrets and @itsjessamae

I do share in what is opined in this post. There are some of these newbies that have a whale-like influence. It becomes hard to find them out simply because they are yet to come around the platform. But gradually we all begin to flow with the wave and sometimes alter it to favour our course.

Yes last Nov 2017 I gave up steemit cause I saw that my first earning is just $0.2 but now I know how things work. I have a lot to learn but I know I am getting there.

Whales or minnows, we all belong to the same ocean where all good things flow endlessly. :) We just have to ride the wave and have fun together. The great thing about Steemit is that there is no divide between the community regardless of what's inside their wallets - there are many whales who are there to support minnows without expecting something in return. They just want to see this platform succeed and inspire more people in the days to come.
A minnow may not be powerful on itself, but a school of minnows can be as strong as a whale can ever be if they just move as one.
Am glad you discuss this today. Steemit is a community and therefore we are here to build a relationship with our fellow Steemians not to run after people will wallet. There's a Bible saying that seek ye first the kingdom and every other thing will be added to you.
What does this means to me. I once saw d comments by someone begging another user with high sp to upvote him. I quickly responded that if he goes out to offer thoughtful and contributing comments, upvote post that he believes carry the quality he wants and build this relationship whether with a plankton, red fish or a whale, in the nearest future, the upvote he wanted will come without begging for it.

Am grateful to the guy who introduce me to Steemit. If you have seen my story on the kingdom of the Steemititians it explained exactly how frustrated I was after waiting for 12 days without approval to join Steemit. But @joshuaetim called me to explained how persistence, commitment and patience should be my guiding virtue on this platform. After the talk with him I understood exactly how important it is to build a community rather than pursue better wallet. And I promised that the way to pay him back is to try to help others learn about this too. Together we'll make this community a beautiful home for all.

Even in the human realm, we shouldn't choose as to whom we should only give our respect. It should be given to the most unprivileged person to the most privileged one. I can relate this to an analogy of apple, we can count the number of seeds inside an apple but we can never count the apple inside the seed. We can count minnows now but we cannot count the number of whales inside of those minnows.

We can all become whales in the future. We just have to persevere ang put our hearts out to every post that we will make. It’s one of the keys to success here. Whales were one minnows and they have struggled the same we have struggled at first. Lets just be consistent and goal-oriented. But as @steemsecrets once said, we all are whales we just have to act like it. :)
