This is REPOST of a post by @scarlet7 who is raising a serious issue. Serious enough that Randowhale with his bots has flagged the post into oblivion.
As you might know from my previous posts I believe the abuse of flagging and downvoting will stop the growth and limit the true potential of Steemit.
Below is the post by @scarlet7 - please upvote her posts, resteem and follow.
"Randowhale is a "service" here at Steemit. It is a bot that you pay, and in return, RandoWhale upvotes your posts at an undetermined amount of SteemPower (which is what controls the amount of payout you can give each user). The idea is to give you exposure and payout when you're small, just starting out especially.
Here is a part of the description from Randowhales page.
This part explains the payouts given...."randomly" with some larger votes "mixed in"

Here ya go, here's the list provided...
Let's start with the measly little payouts he gave his paying customers like YOU or a new user with very little money or SteemPower in the system trying to better their account through this great service!"

Look how much of what could have been voted on YOUR POST, because you paid him YOUR MONEY for the now seen to be impossible chance of a big UPVOTE, he instead uses to FLAG users he doesn't like on a personal basis, and accuses them of stealing from Steemit while he robs the minnows blind, and many others just trying to get more exposure through what they believe to be an honest service."
Did you pay for him to flag these users? Or did you pay for him to UPVOTE your post?

Users he has already attacked many times before, for no reason at all. @Haejin has used randowhales services and paid good money for them. And how is he repaid? With HUGE percentage vests in FLAGS against users that are fans of his work and standing up for him against berniesanders. Why??? Because berniesanders and friends run Randowhale."

Yes the link this user has posted has a damning title, but this user has been experiencing this terror bull shit for the last several days....I can see why he's so upset about it. Dare I say that by using RandoWhale you are actually supporting terrorism on Steemit? I do. This is the definition of that to a tee. But for the sake of conversation let's just call it extreme abuse, censorship, and a community member acting in a very disgusting way toward another."

I was just going to swap my stuff from fb and other platforms to steemit. But this issue really puts the breaks on for me. I guess human greed outweights all positive intentions that once might have been in the guy behind this whale. As long as steemit is subvertible that easily by one rough individual its not worth investing time or money into it. whats the difference if I get screwed by the fb honcho or the steemit whale?
I really hope this issue gets solved quickly, otherwise I'd have to agree with you...

I've seen the post first time and made comments - well you chose steemit for your social network because of it's one good feature, the easy money-into-crypto option. However, it's a terribly dysfunctional social network in all other respects and maybe you should combine using several better networks to post, the way you're already doing it with youtube, and then lead your followers here to upvote ?

@tarquinmaine I don't like using whale accounts' services. I respect and love steemit for what it is, I don't like this capitalistic mentality applied here on steemit. I love steemit for the quality content it can offer. I'd prefer my content to get upvoted because it's top quality rather than just because I paid some rich guy. But hey, that's me!

This is my worry. Even seasoned steemit bloggers are considering alternatives as this is so ugly. I just hope the situation causes debate at the top level and in turn causes change for the better.
I got downvoted by a whale recently and he would not give me a reason why. I was so mad and i still am- that cost me my hard earned reputation and $5 worth of rewards.
It takes a while to prepare content to post and after all your hard work , time and effort some "whale" can just come and down vote it and not bother telling you what you did wrong.
I think we need to find a way to put the whales in check or this will just become a nightmare for people starting out . Alot of people are forced to act a certain way and alot of the time people are just faking and saying nice things hoping to get a lucky upvote.

Can we have like a way to hold down voters accountable or make them provide allowable reasons to down vote? And i know people do down vote others for personal reasons and it shouldn't be.
My Idea is to have a group of whales or just high steem power individuals /influencers who can down vote a whale or a person who does not provide a good reason for down voting another person's post. it will be kind of like taking the whale or down voter to court.

Although we could band together and downvote the aggressive censoring whales I believe this isn't the best way to react as its a waste of our time and effort when it could be used for better things - e.g. writing good posts. The fault they are exploiting is a flaw within steemit. I hope we can change the system and all voting power can be used in a positive way in the future. I was venting/ sharing my frustrations after waiting almost a month to get an issue resolved with Poloniex. I used their hashtag which they advertised for all to use to get free upvotes and i did all the requirements- or so i thought. Next thing i know i got flagged with no explanation.
It seems you might have been downvoted by a whale who has an upvoting bot, because you used another bots upvoting service? I'm not sure on this but would appreciate anyone who understands the system better to comment.
Perhaps, we need a policy in place where flags can only be used for strictly specific criteria such as plagiarism/spam rather than the pissing contest we have currently. For instance, let's say when a user flags that they must select a check box for the criteria met. If that criteria turns out to be false, the flag may be disputed/removed.
Wonder if it is feasible for witnesses to be the arbiters in such a case. Hmmm

Interesting times on the Steemit platform indeed, but I'm not worried at all. So many people on here with really good intentions and contributing amazing content. We will eventually deal with all the problems we encounter, and the beta version will have to be improved at some point.

Dang they are fast. I was really enjoying Steem. Everyday with the bully whales less enjoyable. Soon there won't be anybody for them to downvote. It's too bad for all the people I got to join steem and now they find it with this drama :(

Steemit is set up primarily to be self regulating. When someone becomes a problem to the community, the community needs to rise up and deal with it. This includes voting for witnesses who agree with us, supporting each other, and supporting haejin.
We can and must win this battle against the bernie bots.

I am blond and grey, but can it not be that he let them accounts grow, to get a bigger reach of upvotes? I mean, I have an account and I am small, I push everything into steempower. Once i am bigger, the first ones that i will upvote will be the ones I care for. Under the ones I care for I could ask to first give their steempower to me or their bds for that respect. When you are an upvote service I guess in the long while you can upvote others with more people. I hate to see the bad in people so search for a why.

When I realize bots have been made just for this reason - fill your already full pocket, I decided to make bot @treeplanter which use the donations for forest conservation. 100% is used for our conservation activities in Cameroon @kedjom-keku. Still I am fighting with myself about it. Currently Steem is one of the few possibilities ho to rais funding for our program. So I do not have many options. I am glad I can run @treeplanter here. But yes, I completely agree with you! Most of bots (maybe all except ours:) are actually morally just bullshit.
I've been following you from the start and know of your good work. It's always a shame if one rotten apple spoils it for the many. Maybe bots just need to be verified at some level?

Yes. Please don't loose faith in steemit and the community. I think we've found a flaw in the system and by 'flagging' it with reasoned open discussion (not the steemit flag) we can hopefully iron out the weakness for a better platform primed for mass expansion in 2018!

Those aren't the upvotes you idiot, those are transfers for the share in rewards for delegators. Basically if yo delegate to @randowhale then you get a share in the profit but you would know that had you read the entire post... or any of it.
The more I learn about bots, the worse it gets. Without real transparency on the actual generation of the rewards, these kinds of services are best avoided (that's without even going into the ethics of bots guzzling the pool for people who aren't even minnows).
