We just got word today that our governor has extended the stay-at-home provision that previously expired tomorrow until May 4th. Considering the rate of infection in Minnesota is still climbing steadily here this news shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone. This means at least one more month of quarantine.
Amstel is even getting tired of the social isolation.

Roughly half the people we see in public are wearing masks now. Unfortunately, many young people are still gathering in public parks and playing group sports like basketball. This could ultimately mean a longer quarantine period for us all, time will tell.
I’m getting along fairly well. I've only gained a couple of pounds. If it wasn’t for my watch or phone I would have absolutely no idea what day it is. The days are beginning to just meld together. Aside from walks with the dog the only time we venture out is for necessities like groceries or the occasional bike ride.
I’m noticing that the isolation is much easier if you can get outside into the sunshine and expend energy. I have no idea how prisoners who don’t have access to the outdoors for years at a time can handle it. I feel much better when I fill my days with something useful like taking classes or working on writing.
Pro (Pandemic) Tip --- For any of you whose hands are dry and cracked from all the hand washing, I've found a product that is a true miracle. Rub a little of O'Keefe's Working Hands on your hands in the evening and after a few days your hands will feel more human and less reptilian. Our son recommended this to us (thanks, Martese) and it works wonders.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words so I thought I’d share a few photographs of our neighborhood to tell the rest of the story. I hope you all and your families are doing well.

With Gratitude,
Eric Vance Walton

Hi Eric .. sorry I missed your posts a lot because I didn't see any promos of your hive posts on your facebook lately. In my country lockdown is valid until May 29, 2020. I am also very bored being at home all the time, sir. I think you can enjoy lockdown by writing a book. I am sure you can be more productive writing as long as you are locked up at home. In my area there are also many people who do not care about this virus, including children. Have a nice day, sir.
Hi Eliana, I haven't been posting much on my Facebook page lately. I think our government will end up extending the quarantine into June. My birthday is June 18 and it would be an amazing birthday present to be able to have some freedom. Stay well and healthy my friend!

Not good to have it extended but there'll always be people who don't listen and then it's necessary!
It's weird how every day feels like a Saturday or Sunday! We've heard that the police patrol the neighborhood so we hardly see anyone walking in the streets. I've been so frustrated as my online groceries did not arrive as scheduled yesterday, no one answers the phone nor do they respond to emails. And our internet's been extremely bad, no help from the ISP either, yet the websites say they are working while lockdown us on! Bring back normality!!!!
Poor Amstel must be missing the walks.
Take good care of yourself!
Hi Lizelle! Yes, our most infected age group is the age 20-44 segment. Hopefully you can get the grocery delivery you need. My parents live in Ohio and they had a similar situation. Their delivery was delayed ten days! Thankfully they had enough essentials to ride it out. Yes, normalcy! It's going to be very welcomed when it returns. Thanks and take care my friend!
Hello, @ericvancewalton, we will continue to be quarantined for many more days or perhaps months. You have to be strong and find ways to be okay in the lockdown. I have already gone through the dry hands from so much washing, they were healed with sweet almond oil.
I hope you continue to be well, very healthy and calm. Greetings.
Hi @aurodivys! I think they'll have to extend our quarantine beyond May 4th. Realistically, it will go well into June. I never thought of almond oil. I'll have to try that. Thank you and I hope you and yours stay safe and healthy.
During this isolation time, it has been a blessing for me because it has really help me to rediscover myself and about life. But I guess it is not like that to all people
I'm glad you've been able to use the time productively!
Unfortunate condition indeed. The same situation is happening in my country as well. The extension period of quarantine and many people are yet to realize the harmful effects of this virus. I just wish they get to understand before it is too late.
Stay safe buddy!!
Some areas seem to be getting the growth under control so I think there is hope. Stay safe and healthy @rehan12!
I have been lucky enough to get out pretty much every day and take a walk. That has been helping a ton. I have a thing of the O'Keefe's that I use as well. There is a slight bit of a learning curve to it. If you use as much as you would thinking it is a regular hand cream, your hands get sticky. It is crazy how a little goes a long way. I forget which day of the week it is too. It is a total mind trip.
I know what you mean about the learning curve. I was putting it on throughout the day at first but then learned to put a thin layer on just before going to sleep. That seems to work best. Mind trip is a great way to describe this entire ordeal. I'm finding that finding and keeping the proper perspective is the key to dealing with it. I hope you have a great Friday (I can't believe Friday has rolled around again so quickly)!
I agree, I can't believe it has almost been a month since students have been out of school. It is crazy.
In India, its been 16 days after the countrywide lockdown. Still, there is no decline in the everyday count, I guess when it ends in 14th, it will be extended too. Bdw if you are not going out much, it's better to wash hands with water only and use soap sometimes.
It's taking much longer to flatten the curve than they anticipated in some areas. We usually just wash our hands after we come in from outside but that is around 5-6 times per day because we have to take our dog out so often.
Ohh yeah, then you should wash your hands more often. In my case, I have to take my daughter(1.5 years) out every now and then otherwise she will scream on top of her voice. Though I usually take her out when there is no one outside, just to be safe.
I bet it's especially tough on the young children to be inside so much. I wish you and your family well!
Hi, @ericvancewalton'cause it's good to read you over here and know you're okay. In my country they have also extended the quarantine, the detail is that here people must go out to work to be able to eat because if they stay at home, they will die of hunger. I have also tried to use my time for useful things like reading a lot and writing, but I have realized that this confinement does not help my imagination much. I miss the beach, going to college, but especially, as a Latina, I miss hugging, kissing, and waving. These days a stranger passed in front of my window and I greeted him from afar with a smile. The man, without knowing me, also greeted me with great joy. I don't know, I think that this isolation is making us kinder, more aware of the importance of personal relationships. Take care of yourself. A virtual hug, friend! ;)
Hi @nancybriti! There's so much I miss but I keep trying to remind myself that it will be there after this is all over. Hopefully there will still be lots of summer left to enjoy! We're finding people are a little friendlier when we walk the dog too. I think they're starving for some kind of human connection. Stay well and safe, Nancy!
Time is the most slippery of all these days. I love the images. xo
It certainly is. Thank you Shawna!
