The solstice is here! The solstice is here!

Here in Texas, this summer solstice was at 5:07 am CST. Man, what a great time to be alive!!!

This marks the changing of the seasons - it's officially summer here! It is the longest day and shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere (and the shortest day/longest night in the southern hemisphere).

Round Earthers 😂 tell us it's caused by Earth's 23.5 degree tilt off its polar axis*.

Temples and ruins  throughout the world, from Machu Picchu in Peru to Karnak in Egypt to Stonehenge in the UK, precisely align with this precise cosmic event - it's kinda a big deal.

My favorite solstice observance is to light a candle for the ones I love and do 108 sun salutations at sunrise or sunset.

I am SO STOKED to use my body to express the prayers in my heart, mind, and soul on a day as significant as this - I have some hardcore love and wishes and thanks and amends to make!

How to Sun Salutation A:

  • Start in mountain. Inhale.
  • Exhale forward fold.
  • Inhale as you look forward.
  • Exhale step, jump, or walk back to plank.
  • Inhale in plank.
  • Exhale and lower for chaturanga.
  • Inhale to up dog/cobra.
  • Exhale to down dog.
  • Hold down dog for 3-5 breaths. (For 108 sun salutations, I only hold down dog for every 10th sun salutation.)
  • Inhale and look between the hands.
  • Exhale as you step or jump forward to forward fold.
  • Inhale and look forward.
  • Exhale to forward fold.
  • Inhale and rise up for mountain.

May this solstice bring us all infinite blessings beyond our wildest dreams.

💛 Sara!

*It takes 26,000 years for the polar axis of the Earth to trace out a cone shape as our planet moves through space (called a cycle of precession). It also takes the sun 26,000 years to circle through all the houses of the Zodiac (at a rate of 1 degree per 72 years). Ancient civilizations described a "Great Year" or "precession of the equinoxes" that took 26,000 years to complete. The Great Year signifies a massive shift in consciousness.

BRING IT ON!!

ALLways with you in spirit, @saramiller!

I love the way International YOga Day is the same day as solstice. It's winter solstice here, so the ritual is slightly different, but I did spend a lot of the day surya namaskar'ing!!!
