Over the top

I’ve forever been obsessed with fitness, having a lifelong fear of fat and a determination not to acquire that middle-aged dumpling shape. To that end, I have always engaged in some sort of daily exercise and watched what I ate. Now in my 60s, I can smugly declare that if it was not for my grey tresses and ever-increasing collection of wrinkles, sure you’d think I was still 25!

As I’ve gotten older and watched many of my friends succumb to this and that illness, it’s the health as opposed to the aesthetic benefits of fitness that concern me. What others might spend on holidays, clothes, or electronics, I’ve invested in aids to my obsession such as a hyperbaric chamber…. Michael Jackson had it right ...an infrared sauna, a red light therapy machine, a hydroxy gas system, an original reconditioned Tesla device and 4 Tesla bioheaters.

Before you cry rich bitch, I’m not. I live the life of a hermit. I’m off-grid, grow a good proportion of what I eat, I’ve never been inside a nail salon or had my eyebrows fiddled with and the last time I had my hair touched by a hairdresser was nigh on 35 years ago. I’m a thoroughgoing miser with a health and fitness mania.

Before I retired to live off the fat of the land, in business, my obsession was perfection. My business had to be the best in the business. It wasn’t so much about being better than the others but about standing out and offering something different. To the detriment of my finances, it was always about service rather than profit.

When I started a legal services company it shook up the formerly sleepy industry guaranteeing same-day service while my competitors took days to deliver. We became the largest game in town and were known for getting excellent results which always arrived on time.

Amsterdam Escape, a vacation rental company my brother and I started in the early 2000s got to number 1 on Trip Advisor for Amsterdam Holiday Accommodation. Our places were fun, filled with quirky little knick-knacks, and we supplied everything you needed from bongs, pipes and grinders, toothpaste and shaving foam, right down to a little bag of weed to get you started.

We always scored 10 out of 10 for cleanliness, mainly because I re-cleaned each apartment after the cleaners had left.

We also became the go-to holiday place for American soldiers stationed in Iraq who’d lock themselves into the apartments with 50 bags of weed and 50 porno tapes, not emerging until it was time to go back to the front.

At this point, I would like to assure you that despite the foregoing bragfest I am an ever so ’umble individual with a few issues. As my father used to say, insanity doesn't run in this family, it positively gallops.

I am impressed - I am sure your grey tresses adds an imposing look. I am certain that having those gadgets and tools are not in vain. Great obsession to be focused on one's health and wellbeing.
I recall going to a club in the city center where oxygen was served - I felt so great afterwards. Thanks for reminding me.
Congratulations on your business acumen - your place looks "gezellig!"

I have not been around much but I am happy to see that you are posting again.

I'm so busy using all my gadgets I have little time to post:) As to my grey tresses, they certainly add something..I'm just not sure imposing describes it though. Haggard might be more accurate:)

What, no radiation blocking devices?! I had no idea you were such a fitness freak. If I take a long walk, I'm good. Or spend time in a garden. Hyperbaric chamber?

I'll have to look into those radiation blockers since you think so highly of them.
Yes, Hyperbaric Chamber. I'm a great believer in the restorative power of oxygen. Actually, one of my first blogs on Steemit was about its amazing effects. Freak? Yeah, that's me:)

lol I KNOW NOTHING.

Gonna look into hyperbaric chamber. I had no idea it was something you could have in your own home. I know it could have been useful for my son, but by the time I had heard of it, he was already too far gone to have used it.

For radiation blockers, I use device protection (faraday cage for phone and laptops, lap mats) and hats while driving, or while walking near towers. SLNT has good products. I have a couple T shirts, a hoodie, and a few blankets too, but all of the clothing and blankets are pretty hot, and can block beneficial radiation, so I don't use those for long term. I suppose if people start dying in the streets when 5G is finally turned on (does your phone work any better than it did four years ago?!) I'll use this stuff more. I give it to everyone, but most of them scoff at me. Better safe than...

Wow this is a side of you I knew nothing of, full of surprises you are. I have often wonder if all these health machines do indeed work.
I remember the big who ha about that chamber Michael Jackson had.
Your rentals sound great, I imagine it was the perfect place the disappear for a few days.
I love your fathers saying, gallops indeed xxx

I'm not certain they work either but while everyone I know is on tablets for some condition or other, popping in and out of GP surgeries, I haven't had as much as a cold in at least 20 years. Of course that could simply be good luck or sheer stubbornness but all in all I think I look fantastic: for my age)

Thanks for the visit.

Impressive!
Please keep that insanity positively galloping.
The world can use more of that ;<)

Ah Vincent, with you in it, the world already has quite enough insanity:)

Hahaha! I'll take that as a compliment :^)

for my grey tresses

I just made mine peach, faded pink after a couple of washes. DIY, as I wouldn't go anywhere near a hair-salon...
I always thought that thingy Michael Jackson had must cost a lot of money. Quite surprised normal folks can afford. As for oxygen therapy, I've heard a lot of good things about it, so good for you.

Before you cry rich bitch, I’m not. I live the life of a hermit.

Why do we feel we have to explain ourselves and somehow apologize for our choices and how we spend our money? Especially if we choose to live outside the norms. I was just on the phone telling a friend about our recent trip to Venice and the upcoming one to Zurich, while she was upset they need thousands of dollars to fix their car. Why would I have to feel ashamed about my life choices? I don't have a car, never had one and both trips are cheaper than the money she needs for the bloody SUV. If you want to invest in your health I don't think it's anybody's business.

I just made mine peach, faded pink after a couple of washes.

Peach? Well um......I'm sure it was gorgeous:) I think I'll stick with the grey though.

You're right about needing to explain and justify ourselves. I'll have to stop that. Our choices are nobody else's concern.

we supplied everything you needed from bongs, pipes and grinders, toothpaste and shaving foam, right down to a little bag of weed to get you started.

With that, did anyone notice the clean room 😂?

You're back! You're posting! What a delight.

May your lifestyle serve you well. It certainly serves the planet, many people and animals you rescue (I remember the chickens).

Great piece. Nice way to top off my day.

With that, did anyone notice the clean room 😂

Dammit! I never thought of that. I could have saved myself a lot of time and effort:)

Great piece. Nice way to top off my day.

The truth is I would have screwed it up and put it in the wastepaper basket was it not that I knew you were checking up on me:) You must have been a great teacher!

😁😇⭐️

It is like that a person should do a lot for his health as you mentioned all these things. Today, I just walk and it keeps me healthy.

Walking is great. Just don't get so overweight you can't walk!

Absolutely right for me: health before beauty. I hardly go to the salon; I do it myself. Money spent on health-related items is better. And gosh! Those health kits? Never seen one like that, haha. It's good to have them at home. When I pass by the gym area here with a glass wall, I see people on a treadmill either looking at their phone or having blank faces while exercising. I think that's sad. To be healthy, your mind should also be healthy and aware of what you are trying to do, not somewhere else while the body is trying to lose. I think it is much better to go for a nice walk while looking at nature to feed your soul at the same time. You are a clever lady, and you spend your effort and money wisely on important things. x
.

Right on all counts...especially the bit about me being a clever lady:)
But seriously, I agree. Treadmills be damned! There's nothing that gladdens the heart and feeds the soul more than a long walk gazing upon the wonders of nature.

Haha! You made my morning deirdyweirdy. :)

I'm surprised, too! I didn't foresee this side of you, but totally on board with it. Certainly see what you mean about the health benefits outweighing the aesthetic benefits. I've certainly felt that a lot since I started looking after diet (something that many ppl, particularly at this age, use solely for aesthetic benefits).

Where are you on cold plunges/ice baths? I'm sure you're way more up to date on this whole fitness world than I am, but I see those recommended like crazy. Thoughts?

Ice baths? Eh, no! I hate the cold. I leave that one to the real health nutters.

Wow! I had to catch my breath reading this post. If you can do all this at sixty something then what am I doing at my younger age. I better get off my ass and get to work...☺️

Don't worry kid, the body can withstand a lot of overindulgence until you're 40 or so. It's then you have to start watching yourself. So party on!

I was a great fan of Michael Jackson when he was alive and I’m still a fan even after his death but I know nothing about him having a hyperbaric chamber
This is my first time hearing that word too
I checked the meaning and I could guess that you are someone who doesn’t joke with her health
I like that!

He used the hyperbaric chamber to promote healing for all his plastic surgery damage. People thought he was mad at the time but since then the power of oxygen in wound healing has become well known. He was also famous for having Bubbles, a pet chimpanzee.

Lately I haven't been watching what I am eating lately and I must say it is gradually affecting me. Time to start watching my body for my health purposes

Your health is your wealth. Without it, everything is nothing! If you want to live long and prosper, eat your greens and if you see a McDonalds, cross to the opposite side of the street.
