HIVE DOES NOT REALLY “NEED” MORE USERS

in #art4 years ago (edited)

The only thing anyone has ever gotten from sitting on the fence is a plank up their arse.

This month is my fourth anniversary on Steemit/Hive, and here are five of my opinions:

1. What Hive needs is more opinions, more creativity, more free expression, more pictures, more balls, more humour, and more guts. It needs less fear – less fear of offending anyone, less fear of turning into another fucked up train wreck like Steemit, less fear of being wrong, and less fear of not being “liked”. This platform is not Fakebook – and that is good, because Fakebook is a lump of shit.

2. Additional “users” mostly bring nothing to a platform – they bring no investment, no content, no meaningful engagement. Finding more sheeple and encouraging them to post selfies on Hive so that we just grow a big flock of numpties posting more mindless shit in order to create a bigger “community” is delusional. A large pack of morons posting crap is called Twatter, and it already exists. There is no point in making another one.

3. Post what you need to say, and post the content you want to see. We have plenty of people here – there are already thousands! - Don’t wait for some new users to come along and post “better content” or to do “more engagement”. We are it, we have the platform we need right now, we just need to take off our muzzles and express ourselves for fucks sake.

4. Do this for yourself. If you are just posting in the hope of being liked and rewarded you will be endlessly disappointed. Much of the biggest voting is automated, and many of the big investors don’t give a toss about content. They want to autovote endless variations of the same long, boring, worthy, posts by the same approved accounts every day. The best content does not get the best payouts – it never has and it never will. Get over it and post what you want to see yourself.

5. Videos are a waste of everyone’s time. There are occasional exceptions, but videos have become the new TV – boring, time wasting mind programming – anyone who mindlessly sits there watching some puppet blathering on for 45 minutes to say something that a literate person could read and understand in 3 minutes if it was well written, has just wasted 42 minutes.

I can’t be arsed watching videos, so I don’t – I also don’t usually comment or vote on them, and if people keep posting videos I unfollow them. My usual cut off point for watching the very occasional videos I can be bothered to look at is five minutes, but most don’t make it past 30 seconds. And almost every post that is just a link to a video is another shitpost. On Hive we could all have more engagement so long as we don’t waste our time here staring at videos. Write more comments or something.

None of us are always right about everything, but we are all capable of expressing ourselves. And if we really struggle with that, there are lots of other platforms specifically designed for morons who want to stare at shitposts. There is now even one specifically for doing that in Korean :) But if you would like to see Hive take off, get off the fence, remove the plank from your sphincter, and express yourself!

Finally someone who exactly shares my opinion about videos and "vlogs" - what a waste of time!
But I don´t agree that we don´t need new users. Due to the inflation of Hive (around 9% this year, isn´t it?) we need to grow. Seems the majority of the current users doesn´t want to increase their stake, otherwise we would not see an overweight in powering down. And when the Hive price goes further down, the rewards get smaller and smaller - less motivation to create good content - a death spiral.
The more users the more chance to get also fresh good content (among the many shitposts).

Can't agree more.. like it short and to the point..If I post something I like ..someone else out there should like it too...Eventually like minded people connect up....

So you like them short?

More like this...

It's a tricky one - yes to more content creators, and more investors, but not more twittards!

3 am here. This is easily one of the best post I read this week. You made me laugh with the truth.

I am with you on EVERYTHING:

Screenshot 20200803 at 3.45.29 AM.png

I have been debating this and thinking of new ways which (unfortunately) goes unheard.

And the point about video. Spot on. Well, videos on Hive to be specific. I can live with YouTube but I don't find anything particularly interesting yet. No "episodes" or "series" worth looking forward to. I even saw people reading "scripts" as they look away from the camera.

One day we will discuss the issues in detail. The solution - on expressing - is valid although short.

Question is: How best to express? Would love to hear. (You did a fantastic job expressing here)

Bold decisive statements and opinions, no holds bared attacks on bullshit, pictures, memes, quality posts that are not regularly seen, such real research, original new wave art, content from non American bloggers and people outside the mainstream, and most of all, raw emotion - everything from love to hate - because lets face it, most people on Hive are high functioning Asperger spectrum emotionless geeks, which is why they are so good at computer stuff but so bad at expressionism.

image.png

And the reason there are so many people like that now is because most children have been poisoned with vaccinations, and programmed with games and cell phones...

image.png

I honestly think most people on Hive are afraid to even include pictures or bold formatting in their comments. Unfucking believable!

If you are just posting in the hope of being liked and rewarded you will be endlessly disappointed

Ohhhhh, bollocks...

Well not you, but you have friends in high places...

I agree with that sentiment for the most part. Far too many videos (blog posts, too) are too long because the long-form format is overvalued here. I hate word salad - spoken or written - because the world is full of information and I don't have to time to waste on filler content.

That said, there is a way to get around an author speaking too slowly or in circles. Just jack up the playback speed until you're no longer bored out of your skull. I love the videos of taskmaster4450 but he speaks too slowly for me, which is why I always listen to him at 1.5x or 2x. Even louisthomas feels too slow at times despite being clearly faster, which is why I keep alternating between 1.15x and 1.25x with his videos.

When it comes to the necessity of growth, I don't agree with you. The price of HIVE is 95% to 99.9% speculative at the moment. That's not healthy. It makes the price unstable motivating users to keep their coins liquid rather than staked weakening network security and causing all manner of other volatility related problems. Also, it's probably not sustainable in the long run. But the good news are the blogging use case does not have to grow for the use of the chain to grow. Hive can store text in JSON format making it a good option for apps that use NFTs.

The comments were all fun and games with memes, but now we get to the chewy bit with pips and crap...

Videos - I'd sort of like to do a post about videos, but I'm the most clueless person on Hive when it comes to videos and nobody would read it, so probably best I get into it right here.

First thing - TIME - if I look at my Hive feed twice a day for 30 mins and part of what I'm doing is curating, what I want to do is check out cool posts and fling money at them.

Lets say there are more than 30 new posts that look interesting each time I come back. Even if none of them are videos, I only have 1 min each on average to look at them, vote, and comment. There is no way I want to waste any of my time looking at a video. They are a distraction and a drain on my limited resource of time. If I vote on them I won't have watched them.

Most people don't have even an hour to spend on Hive because they waste most of their computer time looking at video distractions on Youtube.

People who make videos just don't seem to grasp that everyone is in a state of information overload. Their world revolves around their video, but for me, even if I really want to see the video, I'm only giving them 30 seconds to see if they can grab my attention. Most of them waste that 30 seconds with some shitty intro - that's it, I've already moved on.

TOO SLOW - the idea of speeding up videos is good, but why should I bother? - 30 mins at double speed is still 14 mins more than I want to give them, plus any time I waste changing the settings. Most Americans talk so slow they could bore the leg off a chair, but hearing them at double speed is just tragic!

image.png

And now for the INVESTMENT part - the key thing is that fucking 13 week power down time - all it would take to make the price of Hive go up is to take it back to 4 weeks like Steemit did (how is the value of Steem still over 20 cents when the platform is totally fucked?), and make it clear to investors that they can make 10% returns from passive curation. There are people with money to invest watching this space (yes I know some personally), but 13 weeks is a killer, and all the geek stuff about hardforks, and vesting, and code, and all that other boring crap just scares them off.

This is exactly what scares them off: "Hive can store text in JSON format making it a good option for apps that use NFTs"

What they want to hear: "10% return on investment for doing fuck all and a decent chance of 100% gains on the price on Hive within a year"

I understand.
For me, I'm making my videos cause it's what I want to do, not for the money. I understand as a dedicated curator, spending the time on a video instead of a blog is less productive, although I would say my videos should grab you within 30 seconds, if not, that's on me. But for the people who are just using Hive as a social network, a place for creative to come and share their artwork in a supportive environment, I would like to believe my videos could be entertaining.

But again, that's a very different point to the one you're making, and I take no offence that you don't watch my videos. 😉😁

Out of curiosity, I will check one out. It's great that you are posting the content you like to see yourself.

I like my cat shit posts///

I agree about the creative content. There's so very little of it. More often it's food, or useless Actifit and other shit-posts.

Express yourself, bitches!

Actifuck - I forgot to even mention that bullshit - FUCK I HATE ACTIFUCK POSTS...

image.png

5G must have really fried my brain...?!?!?!? I'm beginning to appreciate & understand @frot 's artwork more and more... Maybe I'm just having flashbacks from my Hippie days? Either way, I'm going to go fishing next Wednesday in my neighbors bird-bath, after I take a nap - of course...on Tuesday.

So you are saying you want freaky shit?

image.png

Not 'THAT' freaky...!!!!!!!!!!! Most of the woman in my neighborhood here in USA look like that these days...

Yes, American women are hot!

image.png

Great post!

Yeah, I don't usually upvote selfies and videos. edit (that is why I didn't upvote your selfie above lol)

We need more personal/opinionated/creative type of blogs/posts. I hope that some of those really good bloggers I follow come back and post again. I mean, we don't need everyone.

...but ten you block people when they criticize your mega narcissistic position - oh you can't see this, you've blocked me...lol

lol

You want more LOL? - pervert...

Good pingt! lol

This is an actual quote from a recent Hive introduction post!

I’m extreme. I’m an outlier.
Extreme people get extreme results.
I only have 8 apps on my phone. Only notifications is Twitter.

Bros, fisting - is there something we need to talk about here?

image.png

Once upon a time there was (and still is) a certain music distribution site that I shilled to a friend of mine who answered like this: "Oh that site, it's actually a bit like Youtube but for music. There's enough shit that you can eventually find pearls in it."

So in my opinion, the more people use $Hive, the easier it is to find good material on it. You don't have to follow shit you don't like, nor do you have to upvote any of it if you don't want to.

The reality is, the more people we get, the closer we get to the critical mass of adoption. Yes there will be more shit content, but it is inevitable with any platform. And it doesn't mean the quality content suddenly disappears. There will be more of that too.

Back in 1998 the internet was very slow, and the websites were very ugly - but holy crap there was some good content - now with mass adoption 99% of the internet is moronic crap and there is barely anyone left on it who knows the difference between shit and chewed dates.

Just in case you don't believe me, check out this site for example:

http://whale.to

image.png

And within 48 hours of the 911 psyop, the entire scam was revealed online and discussed in full. That would never happen now - more users often leads to more mass stupidity.

We know that is the case because it is happening right now with an entire psyop based upon a completely fictional "pandemic"

I agree with almost everything you said.
Except for the part about videos.
Now I know exactly what you mean, and as I scroll through videos trying to find quality content... Its tough...
But as for me, I'm an aspiring filmmaker, and really look forward to sharing my content on HIVE.
The videos I make are not one-shot-unedited-45min-talking heads, they're painstakingly filmed and edited, and are an expression of my art and myself. (maybe not a good one, but I do pour my heart and soul into it.)
So I'm just curious as for your honest opinion, I imagine your less of a visual medium kinda person, and so I understand that videos in general are not for you, but do you think Hive is a place for me to post my videos?

I'm probably the worst person to ask, but yes I think Hive has many uses beyond blogging, and video hosting is certainly one of them. 3speak could be the next Bitchute and more.

But see my comment below for how time is a big issue for curating on Hive.

image.png

Nice rant !! Can you DHL me some of the stuff you were on when you wrote it ...much appreciated {grin}

Believe it or not I was only on a macadamia smoothie with coconut cream and frozen strawberries. Sometimes I am on other things, but those posts are mostly shorter and less organised.

image.png

Now that's a lot of engagement! HIVE posts do that, I don't write them anymore.

You don't have time to post on Hive because you spend all your time fantasising about plump, worn out, yet strangely attractive check out girls with low IQ's who know the price of a tin of sardines. Pervert...

image.png

I was a tormented soul living under a cloud of severe 'Mort' oppression. What else could a poor lad do?

Monk therapy is hot right now, but it sounds a bit frustrating :)

image.png

Interesting take on Hive, can't say I disagree.

!bro

You can if you want to - be bold and express your inner fury!

image.png

Hahaha! We really think the same actually, I lost the faith of massive adoption but...who cares, isn’t it?

We can do this without a mass influx of twats from twitter :)

image.png

twatter IS more fun though....(do you not realize just how many snowflakes -per square pixel- there are to melt over there?)

image.png

...as soon as I can organize myself (ready sometime this decade), I have an experiment to try out on that place. Only a '2 monther', but I'm very interested in something 'over there'.

I am not Goebbels, have never been Goebbels, and do no know Goebbels - and I have the paper work to prove it!
