Unrestrained

in #blog8 years ago

Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷 dance. It’s part of the vibe on the island. It’s part of the history, the culture and the people. It’s part of the essence of who they are. ✨ Food and dance are part of their EVERY holiday celebration. They hold back less. They are generally louder and more expressive in word and in body. This is why Puerto Rico feels more free to me!

I love my hometown. It is my roots. 🙏🏽 But it has taken me years to learn not to be affected by the constrained energy here. My home town is not a place that’s energetically ripe with freedom to express oneself. I have always felt a bit shackled here.

There’s not a lot of diversity here, and I freaking love diversity. It is a town where it’s implied and expected that you cheer for the hometown football team. (I don’t. It doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.) It’s a town where when you meet someone, in the early getting to know you process, they usually ask “so, where do to go to church?” (I don’t. I saw through the church years ago and it doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.) These assumptions are just part of the culture and the people and the essence of my home town. It’s fine, it’s just not me.

Over the years I have worked and found more and more comfort in being who I am pretty much anywhere, even in my conservative Southern little hometown. I’m even now part of a small community in my hometown of like-minded “outsiders“ via our yoga center. That is why this yoga center, and my friends there, are so important to me and the hardest thing to geographically separate from here. 😖🙏🏽 🕉

But, for a change, I am looking forward to moving to a place where my sense of freedom is fed! Where I can bask and be nourished myself, and feel free. And, hopefully then be able to more strongly channel that sense of freedom back into my little hometown and our yoga center. 🙏🏽✨

This clarity came for me after a little comment that my friend, Amy, made. She is a very wise soul, a dear friend, and part of our team at the yoga center. I know she’s not thrilled that we are moving. 😐But, after processing this change upcoming she said to me, “I get it. I understand and accept why you need to move to Puerto Rico. It’s what brings you more freedom. So that’s what you have to do.” I hadn’t even been able to articulate that yet. It was just a sensation I had drawing me towards this move. But of course Amy saw this and spoke it. She’s my little Oracle. 🙌🏽

So anyway, this is a big part of the appeal of Puerto Rico for me. To be more free. 😊And then to share that freedom more so with others. This is part of what I was trying to articulate when I said on an earlier post that Puerto Rico “feels more real.” The island and the culture feel more true to themselves and energetically to who I am. The expansiveness of the horizon from the ocean shore feeds my heart. The open beauty and sensuality of the people are more on display. They are not shackled. They are not stiff… They dance 💃 and move! They sugarcoat their shit less, because in that island economy they can’t afford it. The grit and the dirt and the beauty...all on the same street. Feels like home to my heart and belly.

Very nice i like your blog

Been a while since I dropped in. Glad to see you are still heading in your desired direction.

Thanks friend! Yep 5 days till move day. Nice to see you drop by.

You’re not kidding about this area being a little (or maybe a lot) closed minded (in general

I’m sure there is some of that everywhere, including PR, but I’m excited for the change of energy.

Good to see you back posting regularly :)

Thank you. I have a need to express and I’m enjoying myself here in the community. Thank you for commenting. :)

Thank you for sharing always a pleasure to read your posts :)

Beautiful so sensual

Thank you. Love your blog and following you now. :)

Freedom has always been my number one priority. Strangely enough, the place where I live, Germany definitely wouldn't be the first place to come to peoples minds with this subject. Still, I think, particularly with our history we have achieved a high level of freedom in all aspects of life.

Of course, there is bigotry and people like the ones you describe, but once one understands their ways, Germans can be much more outgoing and funny then people generally think.

I wish all good things for you, and that you find what you are longing for on this "journey". When I saw the last photo of this series, I immediately felt remembered of my Tarot card XXI - the World... not really the exact same pose, but to me a similar feeling..

Thank you dear friend. I see the resemblance in the card and my last photo. In both we are struggling and breaking free of our bindings. Visually representing freedom. ✨

Yes, that's exactly it! :-)

Lookin' good S.O.! Love your posts and the messages within' them. They always make an emotion stir and my mind wander a bit............. I like the organics used here......... the wood floor, the candles/flame and the shadows that were cast. Great shots.

Thanks so much :) credit to @sean-king for all these photos. 🙌🏽

I love your photos.

Thank you, pretty. I like yours too. :)

As a New Englander with a Puritan background, I definitely understand the closed off and repressed personality. Surely I've got one myself!

There seems to be something about the warmer climates that cause people to open up and relax. Maybe it's because they haven't been living under the pressure of "build a solid house and get that wood stockpiled or we will freeze."

And as for religion, it seems to flourish in climates where the only place to meet up with your friends is a well-heated church.

Puerto Rico sounds like a perfect change.

Excellent points. Maybe there is something to the warmer climates? 🤨 Colder climates do require us to hunker down and prepare more for survival. Even Just think about the body language of being cold...it’s contracted and closed. “Changes in latitude, changes in attitudes...”

Ah yes! Puerto Rico is amazing. I love it there. After we visited this past summer, I spent a bit of time looking for property for sale down there because it so inexpensive for housing and well, no federal income tax is huge bonus too. Needless to say the hurricanes came through and I kind of halted the search. I'd still love to find a vacation home there at some point in the not so distant future. Enjoy!

The housing is more economical. Incredible prices for ocean front living even! And yes, the tax benefit is a unique benefit there for US mainlanders.

The hurricanes were so unfortunate, but We were undaunted. We are excited to move there in 5 days, grow roots, and help the island recover.

That's amazing! Perhaps we won't be too far behind! Good luck and safe travels to you!
