I always prefer doing things in my own style. I don’t like to copy or follow others, I strike my own path. I have always been this way and my @Partiko mentorship is no different.
Many I see are hitting up new users prying for people to follow referral links, I don’t want the returns I just want to help. I gave up on trying to get users to follow my links to be eligible for my help instead it has been an open door approach with so many working on the front lines already I have taken on the ask and you shall receive tactic. If your searching for help you will inevitably stumble across my posts somewhere thus I have less “students” but I know I am helping those that wish to help themselves.
Those I have helped this round include two I wish to highlight!
@buonalucy and @mjtravels both of which are functional on their own and really needed no help just further encouragement.

Conclusion
After trying and succeeding to get my best buddy @brettblue and several others I have tried to help land here only to watch them leave I am forced to recognize the problems with user retention are not relevant to new users needing help but rather the system is needing simplification!!!
It extends right from the ability to search the content you want all the way to confusion over the trending tab and how to get on it! Furthermore the use of markdown makes things that much more complicated and support for it on the various dApps being insufficient.
I honestly believe the best way to push the platform forward would be to simplify things further otherwise we will remain only able to retain the tech savvy which is a very small niche group!

How have I missed all your links offering help? If the links are to podcasts or D-tube, that explains it. Otherwise, I need to build my reading speed and comprehension. Yea I do a lot of video work and largely that’s where I have been voicing my offers for helping but I have done a few written post yet those didn’t receive much for recognition either!
I started by offering so much from delegation to help on understanding anything on the platform... I was running an ask me anything Contest for awhile which was good but no ones was asking for help rather asking silly life questions.... slowly I have been backing down as the only responses were people wanting freebies.... hell I even started sponsoring a contest for one of my Partiko students and started arranging further sponsorship from Partiko but he suddenly backed out and took the transfers intended for the next contest!
The thing is people don’t seem to want to put in the effort when I’m only offering a hand up and not a hand out!
My conclusion is until we solve the complexity we are best to allow the complexity to filter out those that do not have the determination!

As a member of WB and IOW, I hosted several, some with $20 SBD for first place. When the sponsors weren't available, I offered $5 SBD for first place. Then $3. For a really short story (50 words or more) based on a photo prompt.
Sorry, I digress!
Part of my failure was not finding the right hashtags, not getting resteemed by those with lots more followers, not being more engaged with tech, with apps like Partiko, with D-tube or podcasts.
But I ended up joining my one contestant, @sarez, in several #WeWrite contests here. One even got curied! So that was fun.
Not sure if being daunted by complexity dooms me, but I am afraid I see myself as one who could be weeded out for lack of tech-savvy here:

I say you do have enough determination because your here and still posting having gone through the very same journey of trying and failing.... like you said wasn’t your effort but a minor detail with tags most likely which could be solved say our platform had a better way of keeping track of posts or removed promoted content from the equation.

I agree that simplifying the platform and user retention is key to retention. I've toughed through the changes and tried to adapt, but I fail on technical challenges and realize my lack of time severely affects my growth, yet I persist.

While I thought everyone else was a million times more tech-savyy than me. it turns out they've struggled too. The #1 difference: others have persisted, gotten help from people like @d00k13 and conquered!
It seems even some of the most tech savvy people have found Steem a daunting platform to learn, that’s not even trying to tackle the development end of it.... just posting alone is a daunting task for the average person!

YES --I've invited a lot of authors here, and I'm not surprised when those older than I am say "I tried; I couldn't make sense of it; I gave up." But authors young enough to be my children also say the amount of time and effort to manage passwords, formatting, upvoting rules, etc, is just not worth it. They'd rather be writing. And so it seems most published, well known authors do not invest time at Steemit. Some, like Elizabeth Letts and R.L. Stine, not only have Twitter accounts, they TWEET. Some hire "social media sherpas" to post for them, but some Big House Authors really do post their own and RT and Reply. It's amazing. Bottom Line: Carol should cut herself more slack, and @d00k13 can proudly list many accomplishements in the cyber world, not just Steemit!
This just reinforces my belief in requiring something simpler for the average user!
Say @Partiko allowed Facebook login and account registration and managed passwords itself I’d imagine many more younger generation would land on Steem and stay for the long haul. I know the idea goes against decentralization but not supporting the option is a missed opportunity in my eyes! Besides that is what has been implemented in their BuzzNews app 😉

You are 100% correct. Markdown is ridiculous in this day and age. Oddly enough for some posts I have an editor and for others I don’t and have to use markdown. Not sure why. Steemit is confusing to me an I’m a tech expert. I can’t imagine what it’s like for the novice. Must be daunting and that’s not good for growth.

Yea man the inconsistency between different dapps for markdown support is probably the most confusing thing.... worst I find is that Partiko seems to delete any markdown it doesn’t support such as “center” in HTML if I edit a post I have to add all my HTML back in 🤦♂️
I know Steem was daunting for me and I am fairly inclined to figure things out but after a year there is still much I am not sure how to do... at some point I just gave up and decided just to do what I knew I could do and stop worrying about he details I don’t 😅

Yea the markdown is a outdated thing to me it seems a wasted effort to use when many of the various dapps have extremely limited support.
As for the emojis on PC, I assume, I believe you can get an extension to make them work.... mine are all from mobile 😅 easy to add them that way 💪❤️
