The beautiful Painted Lady Butterfly and some other photos!!

in Amazing Nature4 years ago (edited)

061.JPG

I have four Papillon macros and four distant Helicopter shots here, plus a Hawk and the moon to end the post.

This is a Painted Lady Butterfly (Venessa cardui). This species of butterfly is stronly migratory, it lives in savannah inland areas, but also move to wetter coastal area.
It is the harbringer of the Spring season, as it one of the first specimens to see here in August. Also my first Spring butterfly to get on camera today.

Look at that beautiful Red Eye and the Painted Lady is one of the first butterflies seen in Spring.
Her kind is called an August specimen and our official Spring season starts on 1 September.!

Right! And now for the distant shots!

092.JPG

Saw this chopper cruising the mountain line!

093.JPG

Dropping slowly down the face of the mountain!

110.JPG

I think the helicopter landed near that white building at the base of the mountains!

In the meantime an African Harrier Hawk (Poliboroides typus), old name Gymnogene, came floating over!

002.JPG

Finally this flower in the sky does not have a latin specie name 😁

It was the Austrian mountaing goat, @johannpiber that spurred me on to take a few macro's today. He said that he was going to take a few macros this morning and then he will take a ride on his Harley later on.

So, I took these macro's this morning and took a drive out to collect my wife's new glasses. It was during the drive that I got the distant shots.
I still have to wait for September to see the first new dragonflies!

And that's all folks!

Note: All photos are my own, undedited and cropped for uploading.
All specie information taken from our book: Gardening for butterflies by Steve Woodhall & Lindsay Gray.
Camera used: Canon Powershot SX60HS

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and thank you for visiting a post by @papilloncharity

Butterflies are one of the best pollinators. I always admire them. Thanks for the beautiful shots. Cheers!

Thank you my friend and we also love them.
Papillon means butterfly in French!

Oh I didn't know that. Nice to know. 🙂

My pleasure my friend!

PS: I still didn't get an insect in flight 😉

A beautiful macro also that you got here Hannes.
This "Oh a Bee" looks so great hahaha.

Yeah, I was just so lucky to get that Painted Lady. At first I thought it was a Monarch and I have plenty of them, but I took the shots anyway because it looked nice on that flower.
Then at home when I transferred to the PC, I saw the differences and Marian showed me in our book what it is.
A happy day to see my first Spring Papillon.

Glad that you liked the post Hannes.

Cheers and thanks!

That's just an out of camera jpeg - only cropped, just like you do. I haven't had the time yet to look through the images I took in the past days, but I haven't taken many, if which a lot will be unsharp because of the wind 😉

Yes, I enjoyed the butterfly, because I see seldom such colorful ones.

By the way, this was not a "Oh a Bee" but a "Hello Bee" 😁😉

Oh! I thought you edited, but yeah, no editing needed on that lovely shot.
Argh! Those ones that we have to sit and delete and the ones that we think that we can save somehow takes a lot of time.
In my case even if I think that I can save some, I now just delete them all to save time.
Some of them can even beat many of the photos that we see on hive, but If I don't like something about it, I simply delete it.

Got my first Spring dragonfly after the winter today here in the garden Hannes.

048.JPG

Brand new out of the pupea and still a bit wet.

This is a Cape Skimmer (Orthetrum julia capicola)

Cheers and thanks!

The edited version looks not much different though 😉

I have never deleted any photo if it wasn't completely blurred rubbish, but because my harddisks get full much faster than years ago I delete much more than I used to do.

That's a cool shot Zac 👍, I have also seen a dragonfly yesterday, but it flew so fast across and over the fence to the neighbor's pond that I didn't even have the time to think of taking a photo.

It has been raining all day long and tomorrow it will be the same they say, so I have decided to go to work and now to bed - have a good night, my friend 😊

I have a 1 Terrabyte Hard Disk in this PC Hannes.
My Seagate external 3 TB disk is full, but I found that it does not store pictures very well. So now I am on the search for a better external hard drive that cab store pictures well.
Deleting pictures certainly creates more space.

Now if I had to see that dragonfly flying to the neighbors pond, you know that I will climb over the fence to go after it hahaha. Even if I don't know the neighbors.

So strange, as we also have rain for the next 4 days. Temeratures of 18, 14, 13 14C.
I will have to see what shots I can get.

Good night and sweet dreams my friend!

Cheers and thank you!

Well, I have an external 4TB HD which I have always with me and which includes all my photography. Attached to my computer at home I have another external HD (6TB) which serves as a backup for the other HD and also for the original files from the SD card.
Private photos are stored on a separate external HD and once a year I burn these on a DVD too.
I have also a NAS with 4TB which ich offline at the moment, because I am looking for a better solution, what might take some time ;)

That fence is not meant for climbing over and to be honest, it was much too hot to do anything physical 😅

Yes, it's pouring outside, my office window is open and I like to listen to the sound the rain makes behind me. Our temperatures should not go below 20C I believe, but we have Summer anyway ;)

Very few larger butterflies around at the moment, loads of tiny little ones that are constantly on the move, nice captures on early arrivals.

Fish Eagles we hear but have not seen, must be over the river a little out of view and the moon has been clear at the moment with companions going over the evening sky again.

Enjoy your Sunday in nature Stephen.

Those tiny ones sounds like the little grass butterflies and they have many different species. I have posted about them before and yeah, they flit all over the place.
Got my first dragonfly also here today!

Nothing more irritating than hearing the Fish Eagles and they are out of camera range. I normally jump into the car and go and look for them. Sadly by the time that I get to where I think they are, then they of course are nowhere to be seen hahaha.

Hope that you guys will have a great new week my friend!

Not often you capture the birds unless they are circling in thermals above, when moving off the river in the evenings they right on top of you before you have time to do much!

First flowers of Spring now showing the Snake Lily is our indicator and have sprung up over the past week.

Exactly, although I was lucky to catch them on camera a few times my friend.

Yep, Spring is here and glad that you saw that Snake Lily Lady Joan.

Blessings to you guys!

What wonderful butterfly picture 🦋

Thank you kindly and glad that you liked it!
