I Feel Sleeping Is Such A waste Of Time

in Proof of Brain2 years ago (edited)

The title of this blog post is clear enough to understand how I feel about sleep. I have been on this for a very long time now and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. However, I’d still ask the following questions to anyone reading and willing to respond to them.

  • Have you ever felt like sleeping is a waste of time?
  • Do you always/sometimes look forward to sleep?
  • Have you ever wanted extra hours to your day?
  • Do you feel sad that the day is about to end?

The last question above is exactly how my day ends up being. Here's the thing: Once the sun sets, I start reminiscing on my activities of the day and asking myself if I was positive for the whole day. unfortunately, I always end up never wanting to sleep regardless of how my day went.

What could be wrong with me?

I once had this conversation with a few friends and most of their replies were that I'm suffering from Insomnia. But NO! I am not. The problem with me is not finding it difficult to sleep but not wanting to sleep because I'm wanting to achieve more things while I'm in my conscious state mind. although, a few times, sleeping could be difficult for me but turning off my internet connection does the magic.

As you've read, falling asleep isn't a problem for me but I don't just feel happy that my precious time that I would have leveraged to be productive, would end up being wasted on sleep.

My last blog is titled The Hardest Truth I Have Learned! - 9 To 5 jobs don't lead to career fulfillment and just with that, you could tell I work for no one. Another fact about me is 'i'm an Introvert too'.

Talking of being an introvert, I heard it severally that I usually don't like sleeping because I am not always tired from working. That If I was working a 9-5 type of job, I would always want to sleep after getting tired from work.

Am I being too greedy?

I'm human and I'm never getting too satisfied with the amount of money I have, the amount of time I spend on my devices or the amount of fun derived from the day. As a hustler, I have always strived to be mo productive regardless of my past achievement. For these reasons, I always wish for a shorter night and a long one. The result of this would lead to more work and more earnings.

Sleep is important

Yes, I know that sleep is one of the most essential parts of our day. but I still wish it's not needed or it's optional for humans.

I have read about how brain cells are being cleaned up during sleep and other benefits derived while sleeping. But I still feel like sleeping is boring and that I always am losing out on something big while sleeping.

My years in university were hell as I slept less than 5hrs almost every day. After I was done with school, I revisited my life and changed my sleep plan to a maximum of 8hrs and a minimum of 6hrs. But still, I wish I could reduce the among of time I sleep without hurting my health.

I’m definitely not alone

As stated at the starting of this post, I knew I wasn't alone on this. There are a lot of people on this earth who wish sleep could be scrapped. Here's what Nas has to say in N.Y. State Of Mind said:

I Never Sleep, Cause Sleep is The Cousin of Death

But for me, I'd say sleep is the cousin of being broke and the reason I don’t want to sleep.

I love my Life. Thank you

I don't know how far science has gone with researches on human lives. But I had once thought about what my response would be if I was asked to take a pill that prevents me from sleeping but would still get the benefit of sleep?

Surprisingly, I won't go for it regardless of how desperate I need more time. The benefits we get from anything naturally are far better than the other way.

Am I actually being so dumb for not Always looking forward to sleep? Maybe, but I still wish sleep isn’t so important in our lives.

Nevertheless, I am never underestimating the power of nature but only wish it’s not as it is. I slept 6hrs the last night before starting this post. I gotta still play along with nature.😀

I recommend you a book : Why we sleep by Matthew Walker. I am curious what you will think after reading it about sleep.

Haha, I know why we sleep and the benefits of sleep. I only wish it was never important.

Have you ever felt like sleeping is a waste of time?
Sure most of times..alot of time waist sleeping is inversely as money waist...most times you sleep you are loosing alot you can't see a rich man sleeping 24/7 am I with you?

That’s my point exactly. I’m so scared of getting broke while sleeping. Time is money of course.

Have you ever felt like sleeping is a waste of time?
Noooooo!

Do you always/sometimes look forward to sleep?
Yesssss!

Have you ever wanted extra hours to your day?
Eh... sometimes. But I won't sacrifice sleep to get those extra hours.

Do you feel sad that the day is about to end?
Not really. Sleeping is my favourite part of the day! I can wake up in the morning, then spend the rest of my day looking forward to the part I go to bed and fall asleep.

I'm introverted too but I still love my sleep. I don't work a 9-to-5 but I am a mother, I do all the house duties, I also walk 12km a day... and I feel like even if I didn't do all that, I would still love my sleep. 😅

Haha I see that you love sleep more to than I do and I understand.

Sleep is actually good for the body and knowing that you’re a mother, you need it.

Thanks for taking time to respond to those questions.

Great post.. Not that I haven't also had the thought but, let me answer your questions first

  1. Have you ever felt like sleeping is a waste of time?

For me I sometimes try to push sleep away to either study or meet up with some deadline, but I definitely know when I can't try that, I cherish my mental health and lack of sleep or use of drugs to stay awake may well predispose to a very unstable day for me. So I don't see it as a waste of time, its more like an investment of time for my body to rest and rejuvenate for the next few hours, how ever, I mustn't sleep more than an allotted number of hours, thats when I feel sad, and actually have wasted time.

Do you always/sometimes look forward to sleep?

Lol.. Not all the time, bub after a stressful day an I need to do some tasks with a clear head, a couple of hours of sleep will be cherished.

Have you ever wanted extra hours to your day?

Yes Yes Yes... But I just give up the wishful thinking and do what I can.

Do you feel sad that the day is about to end?

Lol.. When deadlines are coming very closer.

You may have so much to do, but I tend to do more with a fresh mind and sharp senses having slept.

Your points are valid too heheh
Everyone has got their reason to everything. Thanks for responding to those questions.

Its my pleasure you brought it up.

Money must be made,
But Go easy on your self Sir..😅

Thanks 🤣

But the truth is you can't cheat nature, you will definitely have some sleep no matter what

Yes. But I still wish it's optional to sleep.

That doesn't mean one is lazy if it occurs

I, too, hope that sleeping would be optional; in that sense, we'd accomplish more. But seeing that it is not, we need to sleep to function, and do more in the day.

Do you have adhd by any chance?

Nope, I don’t.

Hmm okay :D

I just have had all of the same feelings and thoughts around sleep like you have :D
But it kinda went "away?"

I just realized nothing interesting was happening at night at least in my life, so I could safely go to sleep :p

My brotha, I feel you in all your words.. Been feeling like this since idk 26 yrs old, it comes to all of us, I also don't want to sleep, rather be doing something else but.. I have always heard that good slept nights are those which give us longevity. I'm with you bro 🤝🤙
