It's a rainy day and my electrical service is failing intermittently, so now that I have electricity and an internet signal, which is like having a ray of sunshine through the storm clouds, I must take advantage of running and posting before meeting again isolated and in the dark. You are left as if you were living not in the 21st century, but as if we were people from the 19th century or some earlier time. Let's start with the ephemeris of the #History I wanted to share today:
Felix Hoffman managed to create a chemically pure and stable form of salicylic acid, the active substance of the commercial product called #Aspirin, on August 10, 1897. He worked for #Bayer and they registered the patent in Berlin, I must clarify that when they did they discovered that salicylic acid was already patented, but the product was not as stable nor was the chemical procedure as powerful for its mass use as the one they had in hand, in short, they had to work on it and finally managed to register and start the production of what today is one of the most successful analgesic drugs and one of mass consumption worldwide.

Es un día de lluvia y mi servicio eléctrico está fallando con intermitencia, así que ahora que tengo electricidad y señal de internet, que es como tener un rayo de sol entre las nubes de tormenta, debo aprovechar para correr y publicar antes de quedar de nuevo incomunicado y a oscuras. Uno queda como si estuviera viviendo no en el Siglo XXI, sino como si fuéramos gente del Siglo XIX o alguna época anterior. Comencemos con la efeméride de la #Historia que quería compartir hoy:
Felix Hoffman logró crear una forma químicamente pura y estable de ácido salicílico, la sustancia activa del producto comercial denominado #Aspirina, el 10 de agosto de 1897. Trabajaba para #Bayer y registraron la patente en Berlín, yo debo aclarar que cuando lo hicieron descubrieron que ya el ácido salicílico estaba patentado, pero el producto no era tan estable ni el procedimiento químico era tan potente para su masificación como el que tenían entre manos, en fin, que les tocó trabajar en ello y lograron al fin registrarse y dar inicio a la producción del que hoy en día es uno de los medicamentos analgésicos de mayor éxito y de consumo masivo a escala mundial.
Me encantaría escribir más de esta fascinante historia, que afecta campos de la #Farmacología, la #Medicina, las patentes industriales y más, pero de verdad que debo dejarlo hasta acá porque ya está todo esto de la electricidad parpadeando y me temo que no pueda publicar si no lo hago de inmediato. Te deseo que tú estés bien y que nos podamos leer con una mejor publicación en un futuro. En serio que esta situación en el día 880 de esta larga #Cuarentena en #Venezuela puede ser estresante, entre la #pandemia de #Covid19 y los servicios públicos en decadencia, es como estar en un barco que se hunde y sin tener botes salvavidas, causa un poco de desesperación, así que me toca hacer lo que pueda por mantener mi ánimo a flote.

It is nice to know about the history of Aspirin. You are right. It is one of the most consumed drugs worldwide.
