Not sleeping would end a person pretty quickly so obviously I'm not suggesting that I won't or don't sleep - I do. I guess what I'm getting at, what could constitute "sleeping," is a person not taking control of their life, having the right attitude and thoughts and taking affirmative action. It's wasteful. And yet, so many do it...and delude themselves that everything will be ok.
I have the, sleep when I'm dead, attitude towards my life meaning I work towards improving it and making it the best life I can possibly have; I also work towards the same in respect of myself meaning who I am, what I know, how hard I work, the relationships I have, my health and other such things. Doing otherwise seems wrong, wasteful and self-destructive.
What others do is their own business and if they, or you for that matter, want to live a suboptimal existence the only one that suffers is them, or you...oh, and families and others close to them (and you). Mediocrity, achieving at average levels, will bring average, and often below average, results and if that's you...well, have at it. It's not me and, despite the fact others can do what they want, it shouldn't be them either.
Each of us should strive to be better, to grow and develop, to build better relationships with others (and ourselves) and to limit the chance (and acceptance of) mediocrity towards creating a healthier, happier and more meaningful life.
When you go to sleep for the last time, when you die, the lights go out. You can believe what you like about "religion" and what comes next of course, but when this life ends it ends and that's that. Would you look back and say, I had an amazingly full, engaged, happy and meaningful life?
Put your hand up if you want to live and endure a mediocre, uninspired and repetitive life; identify yourself below in the comments and then slink away and live that self-imposed life because this post isn't for you.
Put your hand up if you seek more, whatever that may be; do you have a sleep when I'm dead ethos, work for improvement, excitement and a more fulfilling life for yourself and those around you...and tell me about it in the comments below because it's inspiring, positive and interesting.
Or not if you prefer.

For sure. ✅
I think I could say I've had a full, engaged and meaningful life. Or at least I've tried to. My father had the final stanza of the Psalm of Life drummed into us by the time we could talk.
I think that's one of the best things a person could say, that they've lived a meaningful life. Good work.
Here we say "Ava via come 'na troia in mar" which means "She/He floats like a sow in the sea", and it's a way to say that someone is completely disorganized and out of control, as if they're floating aimlessly like a person who doesn't care about their life... Which is similar to what you are saying... I'm not gonna be a troia either
In the end you simile thinking at the life you had, or cry because it sucked? I don't think anyone wants to cry when it's the last moment
I'm familiar with the term, troia. (I've got a few Italian friends). It's best not to be one, nothing to be gained.
I agree, best to do what's required to be able to look back on life satisfied with it rather than disappointed with it.
You should sell that picture to a interior design magazine...
I think I have passed average a while ago, already. And it has become a custom to just go further. Find new goals, for example, new things to work on, new improvements. This year was another one of those, luckily, with much to be grateful for and proud of. And I definitely don't sleep enough. But it's worth it.
It's good to look back on a year and be able to feel satisfied with the results that came of it; I can do the same and there's only been a few years that have delivered bad results...and even then, those results taught me many things I used to make other years better.
Nice bedroom huh? Not always that neat though, but close.
I still live in a very improvised flat. Moved in here because I rented the space below for the restaurant, and the flat came included. It works, but seeing yours inspires me to wanting to have a different space, something to decorate nicely, feel really at home. A new goal to save up to...
I've never lived in an apartment or flat, and like the room of a house. It's a different country to yours though so there's no surprises when it comes to the size of houses. We have apartments and flats too of course, more and more as the population increases and the demand on housing gets higher...there's only so much land right?
I don't mind living in a flat in and of itself. There are nice ones. But mine was more of a "make it work out" solution. Which I did, for a long time. Lease is up in 18 months, so maybe then I'll do some changes.
Yeah, a roof over the head is the main thing.
Probably one of my favorite Bon Jovi songs. In the top 20 at the very least. Also probably not a motto I have always lived by, but as I get older I am realizing it more. Youth is wasted on the young as they say! I should have started sooner.
Bon Jovi? That's Warren Zevon!
I'm not much of a Zevon fan. That werewolf song is annoying as hell. I'll stick with this:
To each their own. Man, they wore Werewolves of London out didn't they? I'm a big Zevon fan and I still can't hardly bring myself to listen to it.
For sure, the young waste time, and other things, and before they even realise...too late, they're old.
Honestly, this really hit me. I feel like a lot of teens just go through the motions, scrolling and staying in their comfort zones, but reading this makes me think about actually doing things that matter—improving myself, my mindset, and my relationships.
Taking affirmative action towards creating a best-life scenario seems a logic choice. So many do not, but those who do have a better life and that's what counts.
That's what a neighbor I talk to a lot says: "Sleep when we're dead!" And that's what I try to do, just sleep as much as I need!
Good for you!
Sleep when you need to, and seek a best life-scenario when not asleep.
I think that if I were to die today I would think that I did everything possible and more to reach my soul's goals, that I have learned a lot and that I know what I came for, that I was developing the path and learning in the process and that I will not rest until I die, I will not, because life is wonderful and you have to have intensity in living it!
Life is wonderful, and not wonderful at times, best to live it the best one can.
The important thing is to create it step by step...
I saw the following quote on my calendar this morning, which is perfect for this comment: "When you reach for the stars you may not quite get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either."
Leo Burnett.
I may return without results, but I will certainly try, because even a failed attempt makes the next opportunity more certain.
Failure is a good teacher.
