Confusion Over Hive

in LeoFinance2 years ago

The very first thing you do when setting up s new business besides having a great idea and a business plan is to start thinking about a name. This can easily be researched by using the internet and also checking with a business registry.

When Hive was created a few years back this obviously never happened which would have done away with all the confusion that we come across regularly. maybe it doesn't matter long term but it would have been way better to use a name that no one else is already using in Crypto.

source

This is where the confusion comes in as they are known as the Hive Blockchain Technologies and their web address is the hiveblockchain.com. I actually got onto this topic today as I cane across some misinformation regarding Hive and it is all down to the confusion with the name.

Solid founding team: The project was founded by Olivier Roussy Newton (co-founder and president) and Harry Pokrandt (co-founder and CEO). In the past, Newton has worked for many major tech firms and co-founded peripheral crypto projects including DeFi Holdings, Valour and Exponential Genomics Inc. (Xenomics). Similarly, Pokrandt was previously an executive for Sandspring Resources.

We know Hive has no CEO or figurehead, but how many outside of the Hive eco system actually know that? This is what is written under the Hive background and is seriously so wrong it is laughable.

This is from finder.com explaining how to buy our Hive yet gives the background information from another crypto being Hive Blockchain Technologies. Yes whoever is writing this article is a complete idiot and most likely knows nothing about crypto or is very limited in their knowledge. This is the problem and will show another one where the wrong logos' are being used for the article written.

source

This article has nothing to do with our Hive but the other Hive and written early last year by The Coin Republic. When so called Crypto Publications are writing and then using the wrong logo for that article you have to start wondering why are people so clueless as there is a big difference.

I am sure this will happen again and again as Hive is still somewhat under the radar but that will have to change at some point.

source

The rest of the article was correct in what they were reporting so at least if anyone wants to purchase Hive they have some options. I have no idea who chose the name Hive and for what reason if there are other projects basically having the same name. I saw a new Crypto called EHive (Etherium Hive) has also appeared recently and they have definitely launched after us.

What is eHive Crypto?
The eHive protocol is a community inspired experiment in DeFi Crowdsourcing built on the Ethereum Network. In the coming months, ETH 2.0 will be launched and change the network from a Proof of Work (PoW) system to the new Proof of Stake (PoS) model.

Crazy to think by adding an E that they wont add to the confusion that we already have out there. Pick something else and be more original.

This will be usefully confusing to regulators and lawyers who might try to sue for something that happens on the Hive blockchain. That Canadian company will start getting nasty legal letters and then realise they better change their name!

From a marketing perspective its really the DApps that matter anyway.

Hive is the backend infrastructure for Web3.

How many consumers have any idea of how the back end of web2 works?

Lol. I didn't think of that and you are probably right in your way of thinking. DApps are what counts and so true as who will even know they are on Hive until they look deeper.

It is all very confusing, especially in the beginning. That is why a serious media campaign should be launched to promote Hive on the internet. This must be possible with the funds that are in the DAO… It could be the small push Hive needs!

Possibly, but just wished someone had used their brain when we hardforked and had other skills like common sense. This is a ludicrous situation and we just have to make the best of it.

This is disappointing and I just hope in time there will be no such confusion as it does not do any good to either of them.

No it does damage both for sure by having the same name. This would be a fileable mistake in the private sector as it is just super dumb and shows a lack of knowledge and thought.

There are two great challenges in Computer Science, cache eviction and naming things. It is mighty confusing, although I think TaskMaster pointed out that the name of the Blockchain isn't overly important it's the DApps that people interact with we should focus on.

I agree it is the DApps that are important but just wish someone had taken a little more care and attention to detail when naming our blockchain. Our Hive will be more well known anyway so it isn't a major problem, but we will still see those that don't do their research still mix things up.

Would have been better yes. The company I used to work for was named the same as the Italian word for the starchy water left over after cooking pasta. It could be worse :)

Lol. I agree it could be worse.

I'm pretty sure they were playing on the idea of community and stuff like that when they decided on Hive. There was some discussion in the channels when the launch was taking place, but to be honest, we had to do it so quickly, that it might have not mattered anyway. I think that is a big part of it. Time was working against us.

Sounds very feasible, but honestly give a group of us a challenge finding a new name and we would have not had these issues.

Yeah, I don't know. I just remember things were crazy back then. At this point I am not even sure another name change would be the best thing moving forward. I think there would be an even bigger chance for us to get shoved deeper in the pile due to the shuffle.

Another one is this Polygon shitcoin.

The name frustrates the hell out of me too.

But in the end, only devs will need to understand that Hive is our underlying network.

All the marketing to the end users will be done by dApps with their own unique names.

This is what I'm telling myself anyway.

PS. I used to work for finder and they would have just gotten a freelancer to churn out that shit.

Leave feedback and tell them they've got Hive wrong.
