RE: Weekend-engagement topic week 45: Only three items [answer and win hive]

Oh man, I feel so prepared for the worst. As someone who works in emergency services no shit I have 4 backpacks loaded with survival gear, emergency items and basic necessities. One back pack per member of my house hold. They all have some pretty cool shit and weigh alot. But designed to grab and throw in my Holden VE Series 2 SV6 Sports Wagon. Plenty of boot space. So naturally that's my first item.

An hour is a lot of time to thing and collect things. Assuming wallet, keys, phone is on me I would include a fishing rod and I don't know what my 3rd would be as alot of stuff is in my backpack. I'd have to say my drone though. Gives me a good perspective to see income danger and monitor the perimeter of where ever I am. I'd fly at night as you can turn the lights off and be invisible to see the area.

I have solar panel charge devices and heaps of batteries so I wouldn't have an issue there as well as a 4 person tent included in my emergency escape back pack.

I initially developed the back pack for when my wife kicked me out of the house or when my mother in law stayed. I could go set up at a park and not come home for a week or two with plenty of food and water and tools to get more food and collect more water. (Kidding, but actually seems like a great idea)

Great post!

My wife thinks I’m silly for keeping a to-go bag full of some basics in the back of our car. It’s a duffel bag so it’s got quite the amount of storage space thankfully. Just need to top it off with a first aid kit now that I cleaned it!

Good choices here, the drone and solar panels would be some good stuff to have for sure!

My wife always complains about that too "why do you even bother". Then the day comes and I will be all like "see, told ya so". 🤣 first aid kits a good but my kid seems to raid it to play doctors so I had to restock it and put it in a higher location.

Yeah it’s weird until you need it! Lol. Our son used the bandaids in the kit to patch up one of his trucks from surgery he performed. Need to get a new one lol

Oh man! I know this feeling. So many dolls have been turned into mommy's 🤣🤣🤣

I asked my lil one what she was doing and she said "they're sick, silly daddy!"

Argh! The mess lol

I have this same issue. Our daughter unpacked our bandage kit the other day and left it in smithereens 😓

Hahah nice, the things they do for entertainment! Worthy of the sacrifice I think lol

She's a bit obsessed with band aids and bandages, but it's a good problem to have I think.

Future nurse or doctor in the making maybe!

I carry a go-bag too! :) That is why I didn't need to think much about it.

That's great and very important! I think it's good to just have the mindset that you can be prepared if the situation arose and you needed to go somewhere. It's also good to have a small one in the car with some necessities just in case. Never know!

I actually do as do my kids. We used to have to have one, so we know the drill.

I have a fly (ready) bag and a size XXL duffle that is my camping bag. It's got a little dry food in it, but everything I need. Those are both packed all the time.

I also have one solar panel charger and 4 battery packs that'll keep me going for weeks.

This is a good plan. Even if other things aren't going with you, food must not be left out unless you want to starve yourself 😂

Wait! That is not three things, my lovely friend! :)) Hey, Tom!!! Miss you! @bigtom13

Hey ya Denise! Good to see you. Why am I not surprised you have a go bag?

You know me so well! :)) Everyone who works for the government or ever has definitely has a go-bag!

I'm thinking somewhere tropical with water, how about you?

I have a go-bag, but, I only took three things out of it. If I didn't, I would be setting up a village! :)

That's great I should add a bit of dried food to it, the rations aren't the best but they work when you need them to!

You are so ready to go but i think it could be so heavy.

Aye, backpacks ready is my way to normally go, too. Besides, it saves time when I eventually go camping. I should build a habit of cleaning everything afterwords, though. Some old soil probably still somewhere in there. On the other hand...it could be used to plant at least a seed or two of some plant ;)

Can never be too prepared and you'll never know the day you'll need it. Also helps to unpack and repack every few months just to ensure everything is still working.

Yes! Best advice ever! I have seen some go-bags that have never been unpacked and hello! Stuff happens when kept dormant like that for a long time.

Yeah I've gotten into the situation where I didn't unpack and clean a bag once and had some leftover food that spoiled in it and had to throw the whole thing away. Not fun lol. Soil is a lot better to have haha

You're right about those seeds!

A good plan for modern day melt down. Do you already have a destination pre chosen or will it be chosen as you start the vehicle? There has to be meeting places in the event the whole family is not together. Contingency plans of locating each other.

Yes. That's a good idea. To have a place where we all arrive and meet again.

Really a good idea.

Excellent points!

That's important as well! I just this year had to tell my dad that there's a meeting place in case shit hits the fan. He didn’t like that it wasn’t his house but he’s in way more of a city than we are so I said no lol

Good suggestion .

Yeah. We have a contingency plan. That will at least give us a starting place for what we REALLY do.

Way more geared up for unexpected, something I have really never considered, being given an hour I would be sure to miss most things just trying to find them.

Yup, that's why it is always great to be prepared and have an emergency pack ready to go

All my life have been taught to "Be Prepared", then never did... 😂

Never know when being prepared will save your life! My wife calls me a doomsday prepper but meh, you never know when the day will call for it.

@joanstewart

I have always had a go-bag. Anyone working for/with Government does. I find it takes the edge off, knowing you are prepared. Simple things, but, I have used it when we had a hurricane, tornado, and once, even a flood.

Oh, yes. They move me to the garden spots in the world. :))

Living in region with extreme weather, a go-bag sounds more essential necessity. We have had floods, lightning storms adhere to common sense and keep going, never been moved... touch wood!

Have a wonderful new week @dswigle let the sun shine on you, keep smiling....

I have mostly stayed in place, but, there have been times the area has been evacuated. It is not the same spot, they just keep moving me to extreme weather places!

Seems like you're well prepared. You sure you're not SF?

!ENGAGE 20

I'm not sure what SF is, scared as fuck?

Lol

Seen some shit through my days in Emergency Services, never hurts to be prepared and never has is.

!BEER

Special Forces.

Unfortunately my orbital fracture prevented me from joining. A few of me mates joined and I've got to live vicariously through them.

Also been able to work with them over the past few years.

Hey @galenkp, here is a little bit of BEER from @melbourneswest for you. Enjoy it!

Learn how to earn FREE BEER each day by staking your BEER.

😂 You got me there at " ... when your wife kicked you out or mother-in-law stayed". 🤣

Hahaha yeah. Always need a back up

Lol! Good one 🤣

Ya I also read the wife kicked him out part lol

Hahaaa, Yes, it's definitely a great idea not only to survive when on a hike but when under any circumstances also.!!! Well prepared, @melbourneswest. You have more than enough kinds of stuff needed 👍

Can never be too careful on a hike sometimes!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA teach me how to prepare a backpack like that, to run away from my mother-in-law when the time comes.

Wow. Truly, you are prepared if you have to live something like this. You already have everything organized. You are very cautious

You should sell these kits as you have described 🤣 you'll make a killing

Hahaha dooms day packs! I like it. They're quite expensive and mine holds a few thousand dollars in gear :(

The Mom in law survival kits - I think it would definitely catch on hahaha

Hahahaha yeah! Everyone would buy one. There is a bottle of pure alcohol also. Never know when you need to clean a wound or drink yourself unconscious 🤣

Hahaha I love that!

holy shit "dooms day packs". Brilliant. And there's a lot of people out there with tons of spare cash that spend their entire lives thinking about this day coming. I'm sure you could easily sell them for a couple grand!

I can see you are prepared for the worse and since you are used to things like this, it would be easier for you to cope with such thing and days in the wilderness. Lol

I would agree with you there, I'm quite resourceful. I have spent many weeks out in the middle of no where with no internet or phone reception.

Noting I have work equipment satellite phone etc but can't use it for personal use.

That's great then. You are good to go with all those items.

That is a good idea, but I am just laughing when you said about your mother in law stayed. Something isn't good enough.

Hahahaha! Oh the dreaded mother in law.... never good enough us men are 🤣

Really? You are not the only one complaining.

Dude, this is the best response i've seen. 😅

You're beyond prepared for it qll

Hahaha 🤣 I like to be ready for anything and everything. As mentioned on a previous weekend engagement post, my mother in law is my biggest fear 🤣

Quite understandably, 😅

Your bag too, you seem to have everything inside of it. What type of bag is it, cos I saw a new invention of bags that float. They are not heavy at all.

Oh man those solar panel chargers sound so good right now. I feel like I have everything down and ready except for electricity. Not the biggest issue but; it sure would be nice to have it in case you could still somehow contact loved ones. Good call!

They're good and great at charging phones although takes a little longer. Generators are good too so that might be my 3rd option but then I need fuel and depending how long your out in the woods for could be hard to come across and noisy so people will be notified of your position

Yeah I think the noise factor would definitely be unnerving! Regardless of if people are coming to your location, can you imagine trying to relax in this situation with that buzz going on? In the woods? I’d be anxious all the time, lookin over my shoulders every second that things on!
