Clean enough to cookie off

For something a little different this Sunday, my wife and daughter made some gingerbread cookies. These are made from a gluten-free ready mix (neither of them can tolerate gluten) and aren't the greatest tasting cookies in the world, but they are not "too bad" in a pinch. The main thing was of course, the actual "making" of them with Smallsteps, as she loves all of the processes of cooking and getting her hands dirty.

speaking of dirty, as you will realize from the pictures, a lot of the process was performed on the floor, which is probably not exactly up to the board of health's standards, but since we are the only ones eating them - who cares. It isn't like we haven't eaten food that has dropped on the floor before anyway. The main reason was just so Smallsteps could get some more pressure on the cookie cutter, but it was nice to have the space and it made it more of a game.

Our floors are clean, but we had a cutting board underneath.

Rock on!

It looks like she had a very hard Saturday night....

I think this is a bit of a cute shot of mother and daughter baking - and of spending time at Mummi's place having her nails painted.

OI000212.jpg

There were plenty of stars, hearts, bears and foxes made, but the most fun was going freestyle with the left over dough. Smallsteps always asks me to make something for her and due to her two-year long mouse obsession, it was another mouse. I should have taken a photo because it was sublimely disappointing as a mouse, but she didn't mind.

These kinds of activities are always a lot of fun, as it is outside the norm for us, making it a special event. I like them because it is actually going through processes to produce something and Smallsteps definitely feels the connection more when she has been involved in the making of something, as we all do.

These days, it is quite common that we don't actually create that much, something I think will change as the creator economy comes online and a lot of people are able to earn on their skills. Creativity is definitely a market differentiator and it is well worth getting in the habit of developing and practicing skills that can add to what one is planning on delivering. Having some supporting skills like photography for example, can help develop a more unique and personal perspective, adding more differentiation into the mix.

Cookie cutter content really doesn't get very far as a way to build up an audience, although it can attract views as people end up tailoring their content for SEO. This is all well and good for selling adds perhaps, but it doesn't build the following for consistent reward - SEO seems to get a lot of focus, but it actually just helps the data collectors make more money. People don't look at it this way though, as they think getting "hits" is all that matters. It isn't - the quality of those hits matter too.

OI000217.jpg

OI000213.jpg

When it comes to quality of audience attention, numbers matter less than the real interest of the audience. We see this on Hive and perhaps I will write an expanded post on this, but number of followers is meaningless, quality of followers is meaningful.

Look at it like lead generation for a business. The business will only pay for high quality or converted to sale leads, not all leads provided. If they incentivized all leads, the focus of lead generation would be on quantity of lead, not quality and as such, a lot would be paid on leads with little conversion potential. Companies don't do that.

In regards to content creation and developing for attention for an audience, it is good to remember this as well. It is generally better to be highly appreciated in a niche than lost in the crowd of generic, but we have largely been blinded by the centralized social media to chase numbers, as it is They who distribute the value, and they will reward those who provide them with value. They don't care if the audience gets value or not.

On Hive, where people own the platform value and are able to personally distribute it as they choose, the importance isn't on the numbers of randoms, it is on whether those with value, see value in what they are reading. This fundamentally changes the way things are rewarded and ultimately, will favor the content creators who are best able to attract the attention of real people who enjoy what they do - not anyone for advertising revenue. In practice, this means that the content will become far more personal and unique, and far less clickbait fodder for the masses. I believe this creates a far better incentive and reward model, that leads to a healthier content profile too.

Leave the cookie cutter for the cookies.

Ahh I remember having to do something similar with my kids, except we have a large (6 seater) wooden dining table so when they were that little and needed to put their entire body weight on the cookie cutters, they would make the cookies on the table and either be standing on chairs or on the table itself with everything else XD

doing anything food-related on the floor here would be disastrous as we have dogs

the content will become far more personal and unique, and far less clickbait fodder for the masses

Ahh so pretty much how it was before desperately trying to trick people into clicking on ads and "proving expertise in a niche" went right stupid became a thing, cool XD

We started at the bench, but there wasn't enough space for all the fun to be captured ;)

This would have been impossible last year for us too. Though sadly, now it is okay. Though, last week we dog-sat a dachshund the same age and type as ours was - it is always bitter sweet.

Exactly. The early internet was a playground, the current one a factory. We can do better.

The gingerbread cookies your daughter partake in baking will always be in her memory because she will definitely learn a lot from it when put to practice. This also teaches in other areas of life where one need to learn other skills to make a difference in one's life.

Building solid process and being able to adjust it on the fly is valuable. Most people just follow a recipe in all of life and wonder why they are average.

All that's missing is an uncle G-dog to share some of that gingerbread.

There is plenty around and I definitely shouldn't be eating it alone.

Haha, I wasn't going to say but...Yeah, probably.

I thoroughly enjoyed this post. Smallsteps looks like she is having so much fun, and so is mom. I love the looking in the oven picture, I remember that from when I myself was kid, the waiting the anticipation, the first bite when they are cool enough to eat but still soft enough to not crunch into a million crumbs.

I am a Centralized value finding organization of one. I like being able to reward people, and various post. Even Cookie cutter type post. ;-} It is one of the things that really make Hive different, we the people get to reward the people.

It is always fun when Smallsteps gets her hands dirty. She loves it so much. I think in the spring when it is a bit warmer, we will create a painting together.

THis is why SEO isn't as important here imo, as it isn't for marketing purposes to bring people to the site to sell more advert clicks, it is for information purposes to connect people who are interested.

Hello @tarazkp! It's so good to see that you had a great weekend with your loved ones. Gingerbread baked goods mark the beginning of the christmassy season. These shots are amazing, they have a sense of familiarity and closeness I really enjoyed. I could almost smell and taste the delicious flavors. Thank you for sharing!

As per this bit you wrote, I couldn't agree more:

Real people enjoying their real lives, hobbies, interests. That's what truly gives value to Hive. When I'm here, I get to share my journey, my vision of the world, my growth as a human being. The best part is that I also get to witness the journeys of others, from all across the world. Here, we can travel and have new experiences with just a click. We can get in touch with like-minded content creators. Hive has so much potential that it makes me very excited for the years ahead. This has been a marathon, not a sprint, and how enjoyable indeed!

Seems very early this year. I am going to get even fatter.

This is why authenticity is so important on Hive, as people connect with people and over time, we get the opportunity to really know each other.

I almost choked on my coffee! 😂 Well, I apply this: to eat more, move more. And then I enjoy all the baked goods I can! Hahaha

If the subject is the reward between centralized and decentralized platforms, we can easily see the big difference. On Hive, any Hiveian in the world can distribute the a part of the reward; however on a centralized platform, the reward can only be distribute from central office. No matter whether the content is quality or attracted the attention of the audience. Even, they sometimes make you force to watch/read the content to increase the numbers.

Exactly. So what gets rewarded on centralized platforms is what makes the platform the most money.

Your beautiful daughter had an awesome time with her mom. I love their creativity and the amazing skill they are practicing.

THey love doing this together.

At first I thought you actually had them on the tile - still not entirely bad on a clean floor!

I agree with you about the cookie cutter content... If nobody actually wants to read something, is there really any sense in rewarding it? At that point, it's just filler.

At first I thought you actually had them on the tile - still not entirely bad on a clean floor!

:) The cutting board is white too :)

So much of the SEO content is filler content, which is great for those marketing teams to target - but here, we aren't selling adverts, we are enabling content itself. The content is the reason, not the hook.

Those SEO things are a real pain! They always come up when I google for something specific. Usually something that I want to know NOW. And of course the web page has absolutely nothing to do with the topic!

I'll admit that some of the posts on Hive might not be perfect, but at least when I search for something, the results are actually relevant to the keyword.

They are good for specific content - like how-to guides - but they are impersonal and are designed for ToS numbers and pay-per-click adverts.

Imperfect is okay - if the content is personal and unique :)

They're actually awful for how-to guides (you look for a guide and just land on a page full of keywords).

Yeah, imperfect means that it was written by a fellow human being :)

Beautiful family 🤗

When it comes to quality of audience attention, numbers matter less than the real interest of the audience.

I do not fully agree with it since from a bigger audience there is more chance to have more valuable audience as well. Also important to mention regarding the vote value, most of the audience have a common value, we could say the whales are rare and the most are only small fishes, but still a lot of small fish can weight equal to a whale.

She is so so so beautiful young girl, I don't mean to intrude but I felt so happy when I saw her engaged this how with this work.
I felt she is somehow far from social media and the internet and that's pleasing for me if the young generations stay away from internet addiction!
