The weekend-engagement caught my attention two years ago and I found it to be really interesting. If I'm being honest, I do prefer the old format of commenting, there were incredibly long comment threads and I would go through them because I enjoyed the exchange.
I understand how hard it must have been for Galenkp to keep up with so many comments so I like the idea of blog posts on that note. What I noticed is that my engagement dropped because it's a lot more tedious going through several posts than going through one post with all the comments.
One has to be really intentional to read full blog posts from different people and engage genuinely. This brings me to my topic choice this weekend,
💯 Engagement on Hive
What does engagement on Hive mean to you and how do you do it? What methods or strategies have you used and what results have you had? Do you feel it has been helpful to build your account, have you enjoyed it or do you feel you'd rather not have to do it?

Engagement on hive in general is something that can't be avoided. You can churn out the best content in the world but if you don't engage people, no one is going to know you. It's not enough to drop replies to comments on your post, you also have to visit the posts of others and engage them too.
Being social plays an important role in being successful on hive. It's a social blockchain for a reason and people want to know the opinions of the person behind the account.
Engaging on hive is not hard for me and I don't have a super-strategy. Starting from my own content, I always make sure I reply comments on my post. I might miss some comments sometimes but I do frequent checks to reply to missed comments.
Some comments are generic or just a repetition of what I said in my post, I won't lie, I ignore sometimes if I'm not up to it. Then there are comments that give me absolute joy because they're so engaging and thoughtful.
This is the type of engagement that keeps me going on hive. I use the number of comments on my posts as a yardstick for my account growth and anywhere above 20 comments is fine by me.
I also engage the post of others and aim for expressing my opinions in a way that lets the author know I actually read the post. There's nothing more annoying than getting a comment that obviously shows the person didn't read a single line of what you wrote.
I would definitely not be thrilled to check out an account that leaves a generic comment. But when a thoughtful comment is dropped, I instinctively want to read more from the person. This makes me check out their account and I decide if I want to follow them if I like what I see.
This is most likely what goes through the minds of others when they see my comments so I prefer leaving genuine comments that give a good first impression of me. I believe this has worked for me several times and I meet people through comment sections.
I also tend to be playful while engaging and my personality comes out. I don't think engagement necessarily means long paragraphs. Sometimes I drop gifs and point out something in a post I find funny and react to it.
Short-form content can be quality and fun too, which is why I said earlier on that I kind of preferred the old weekend-engagement format.
Overall, I enjoy my engagement on hive and I know it's a major contributor to building my account. I won't lie and say I wish I could engage more, I don't have the energy for that.
It's more fun being organic and not putting too much thought to it except maybe you're in a contest that requires you to be on super-engagement mode. I love pressure free engagement and it's generally easy for me because I'm better at expressing myself in writing.

Engagement is something I've been working on. Like you, I try to respond to any comment made to me unless it looks like blatant spam or "nice post" and nothing more. Although, I'll sometimes give a small upvote to the "nice post" crowd.
I'm currently working on upping my commenting game. I have a hard time just commenting to comment though. I tend to only comment when I have something to say. If I don't have anything to say I just upvote and move on.
My other problem was what I call "social media overload". Hive took a backseat to other social networks like Twitter. I made a point to change that this year. Hive is my main focus and everything else takes a backseat to Hive now. That's helped a lot. I comment a lot more now, because I have time and because I'm also reading more content here.
Engagement really is a tough one. I think each person has to find the right balance that works for them. I'm still a huge believe in quality over quantity. For newer people, posting quality comments on a few posts will be much more effective than posting "nice post" on a hundred posts IMHO. I think quality comments and joining the discussion is how to get noticed on Hive. Quality comments add real value too the platform too.
You speak well of this engagement scenario...There's often so many other things that require attention it's difficult to spread ourselves so thin. It's something that I feel is important for an account though, especially a new one like my own. I'm lucky not to be on any other social media, however still I find it's difficult to find time to invest.

Invest the amount of time you're comfortable with. I'd suggest just trying to be consistent. Make x amount of time each day for Hive. Could be 20 minutes a day, could be a couple hours. Whatever, you're comfortable with and have the time for. At least that's how I did it, when I first started. As your account grows, also allow for more time.

It's difficult sometimes to keep up. I'd say to make sure you enjoy yourself while you're here and not put too much pressure on yourself. Start slowly, and gradually, engagement increases.

I get that social media overload too. Sometimes I get carried away and spend more time on twitter or tiktok then I have to caution myself to focus on hive more.
That's right. I don't know any other way, unless there's some strategy others are using that I don't know of.
I like to know the thougut process of content creators on hive because a writer's mindset is expressed in his writings. I like finding out those who reason the way I do and if they don't find out why. Engaging with other people's content has taught me to understand the peculiarities of people. It can be in the orderly way they present their points, the attention they pay to details, it has taught me a lot about creativity and given me ideas on my subsequent contents. I'm very involved in Engagement especially through comments and have met really talented a d inspiring folks on the blockchain. Thank you for explaining the importance of Engagement to us.

It is a good thing to see someone who gets the whole of engagement within the hive and not just upvoting a few things here and there, while I do try to comment on a lot I find, sometimes I feel I'm just talking forth sake of talking.
So I remind myself that it is important for authors to get feedback on the work they have put effort into

I just wanted to log in and answer a couple replies or make an upvote, but I end up staying. I find something interesting or get into something cool. There is so much going on that once I log in I find at least an hour has past. But as long as I am enjoying it there is no loss for me. !LUV
If there was no engagement I believe it would not be as enjoyable, certainly not for me. I'm new though, so probably shouldn't have much of an opinion for a while. It's easy to get lost in posts and comments though, and lose an hour or two as you say.

Short forms content if well written is nice ! I enjoy reading some of them though I always like a detailed story. HOWEVER.... sometimes there are people who writes a lot but has 0 essence. Sometimes I wanna comment on their post but who am I correcting others posts lol

I love your honesty about it being tedious going through so many posts compared to when all comments were on one post. This is interesting, I don't mind going through and reading probably hundreds of posts a week. Haha but I a speed reader and native english speaker so it is pretty easy for me, plus of course we have mobile phones so can engage on hive from anywhere!
I never look at the number of comments on my posts, as I post different kinds of stuff, I do know there will be post content that attracts comments and there will be posts that won.t!

I am someone who believes that engagement is the key to being successful on any platform and I love to engage and it has been helping me. I don´t want to keep posting and not see anyone reading what I put out there. If you want traffic on your post, you should be traffic to other people´s posts and it's like a magnet. Come to me and I come to you thingy.....
Engagement helps create relationships and makes our accounts grow. Leaving beautiful and meaningful comments on posts will bring people to you and that is how engagement works.

You can start in bits, like commenting on five posts a day for example, and progress from there.
