Ask the Hive: dogs or cats?

in Ask the Hive4 years ago

Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!

I was nicely surprised by the massive response that my first Ask the Hive post received last week, which actually made me think about hosting a regular (weekly?) series where I would ask my fellow Hivers some questions. The questions should be interesting but not too difficult to answer so that as many Hivers as possible can join in. The aim of the series would be to increase the engagement level on Hive (or at least among my followers). To motivate people to engage in the discussions, I would always upvote the best or most creative/interesting comments. I might call the series "ATH" (Ask the Hive). How does that sound to you guys? I might just give it a few shots and see how it goes :)

For this post, I prepared a question that is certainly not the most original one but I think most people can relate to it somehow and share their take on it.

The question is: dogs or cats?

I should always answer the question myself too so... Well, although we have had many more cats than dogs, I am definitely a dog person. As long as I was living my parents, we only had two dogs - Jessie and Charlie. I don´t really remember Jessie as I was too young when we had her but Charlie was with us for almost 18 years and we are still thinking of him often... The nomadic lifestyle that me and my girlfriend have been living for the past couple of years doesn´t allow us to have our own doggie, unfortunately, but we are both looking forward to getting one once we finally settle down somewhere :)

So how about you guys? Do you prefer dogs or cats? Please share any thoughts on the topic in the comment section below, I am excited to check them out.

Both photos featured in the cover picture are mine. They are photos of my mum´s dog and cat.

Oooo I actually really like both animals honestly. But if I had to choose one though it would be dog. That may be because I've been surrounded by dogs my whole life and cats were always seen as a 'stay away' animal due to my brothers allergies. I know each animal is different but perhaps the stereotypical notion that a lot of (larger) dogs are friendly and goofy draws me to them as well (off the bat, I'd prefer to have a larger dog than a smaller one) but I've always wanted a cat. Ideally I'd have both ^_^ My bf and I are in a similar situation to you where we can't have a dog due to living arrangements but both would really love one.

Currently, I'm volunteering abroad but I do have a dog back at my family home. His name's Jesse (similar to yours but male obviously) and he'll be turning 14 years old in just over a week. I miss him everyday :(

Thank you so much for sharing such a nice feedback with us :) We also love big dogs and we hope to be able to have one one day :) Jesse is such a cutie... Greetings to him and to you too of course :)

Likewise, look forward to answering more questions + checking out more of your content ^_^

13 cats make a big bunch :) but it's a lucky number so - no problem. I was more a dog kind of human before, I had 4 dogs and cats were undomesticated in the garden where my mother fed them, but didn't touch them. The dogs, all but one, the Bepina that occasionally appears in the posts, eventually got old and died ... and I somehow finally decided to put the stop to cats reproduction around the house because there were always ugly scenes and young cats dying with many undomesticated cats around. I was determined to bring them to the veterinary for castrations and sterilizations, and for that I had to catch them. To catch them I had to domesticate them. It took many months of cat whispering and in the process we became real friends. Now I'm dog and cat person :D all in one.
I liked the cat before but was never so close with them, and didn't know about many nuances of their behavior and philosophy.

Wow, thank you for sharing such a unique and valuable insight into your life that is obviously full of cats, dogs and other animals :D I know, just from checking our posts, that you really live in a very special and rare harmony with animals. Thanks again for your contribution Borjan, much appreciated :)

...a všichni spolu na vozíku jak tenkrát v Bogotě, já vím :D :*

Cats, it's what I've always had, I love them! But it doesn't mean I don't like dogs, I've just never had one. A few months ago I rescued a dog from the street that was in very bad condition, he is already very well, I have him in a shelter (because I can't have him at home) and I take care to bring him his food and when I can I take him out for a walk. I must say that I loved this experience of having a dog, even if I'm not always close to him :)

Aww, such a nice story :) Reminds me of Carlos and Eve (@el-cr and @evecab) who have already shared a few similar stories here on their blogs... I am really glad to realize there are so many animal lovers in this community. Thanks for your contribution to the debate Sofia. All the best to you and your new doggie ;)

I'll take a look at their stories! I hope to share a post here soon about my cat and this special dog, thank youuu!

I'm a cat person, it's not that I don't like dogs, I always pet them but I just don't want to own a dog anymore that I have to walk three times a day no matter what the weather brings or how I feel that day. Cats are so much easier and super cool. I used to have dogs in the past, and I know the love a dog brings as well, it's just that I got fond of cats more than dogs over the years that I have to say: Cats for the win!

Thanks for your contribution, I can definitely see your points :) Also, good for you that you had both and can thus compare and pick what fits you better ;)

Dogs or cats? Beer! :D

Thanks ;)

Dogs they are your best friend and always protect you :)

That´s a good point too actually :) The protection... No matter how big or strong your doggie is, he would do his best to protect you from whoever would try to hurt you :)

Too difficult question! I like them both equally! :)

Ha, this is an option I didn´t really think about but why not, fair enough! ;)

Gun to your head, pick one or your brain blown out, cat or dogs?

I think my brain would be blown out! ;D

i like dogs, but never owned one. i have a semi open yard so don't want to keep him chained up.
i kinda have cats. 2 at the moment, but they are semi wild. they will cry that they are hungry, but are not really social. At one moment i had 9 :D

I kinda have cats.

:D Interesting. I know what you mean. But 9 of them? Wow. As far as I remember, @borjan has 13 cats :D

at one moment i had 5, and someone just left 4 kittens near my house. and cat that i had had it's own kittens and adopted those 4 too. so for a short period of time i had 9. but i have a yard, and i am on the edge of a town (village) so they roam around. i always had an idea to put a GPS tracker on one just to see where are they going :D

Haha that would be interesting :D

Dogs and cats! 😍 I have a beautiful cat, but in the past my favourite pet was a beautiful Abruzzese sheepdog who lived with my grandparents.

I actually had to google out this breed as I didn´t know it and it´s beautiful! :) Thanks for your feedback.

yes he's really handsome, he has an independent character. I had a beautiful connection with him.

Aww, look at this cutie :))) Beauty.

Why choose between the two when you have can both? My dogs are awesome and so are my cats.

True, I somehow forgot about this option :) Ironically, because my mum actually has both too and she loves all her animals equally... What dog breed do you have?

I have a husky and a yellow lab

Aww, both among my favorite breeds :) Thanks for your contribution Wes. Wishing you and your family a great weekend.

Momentálně kočky. I do paneláku jsou vhodnější a na omezeném prostoru si vystačí. Netrpí, když jsme v práci.

To máš pravdu :) Vaši kocouři už jsou tady na Hivu legendy :D

Přesně tak. Filip už dokonce testoval i Dsound :-D

dogs for the win!

dogs are like your best friend but cats just tolerate you cause you give them food :P

Haha some cats do seem be like this :) I think I don´t know about anyone who would say that their cat is their best friend. Unlike with many dogs...

Dogs 100%. Never hand one but I sure wish to have a Samoyed once I settle somewhere...

You seem to have the same problem like us :) Samoyeds are beautiful. Fingers crossed for you to have this wish granted soon.

Wish you the same.

Cats because they'll leave me the fuck alone and do their own thing

Well, for people like you, there is always the "no pet" choice :D ;)

Definitely a cat.
A dog is a friend, but a cat have a personality.

I know cat owners often say this but dogs have their personalities too :) At least ours had... a very strong one :)

I would prefer a every day another kind of animal day... Otherwise it will get boring. Hahahaha

Well if you pick the right pet, you will never get bored with them ;) People just often pick wrong breeds. There are many things that need to be considered before getting a pet.

Exactly! I had cats and dogs, horses, donkeys... Every animal is awesome. I tried to contact you via travelfeed discord......

Really? I didn´t get anything... try a direct message ;) phortun#6162

Done.. Contact you :)

Personally, I would prefer to have both base on differet moods. Dog for hiking and flexing mood while cats for cool mood. It's though to choose one and let go of the other.

That´s an interesting opinion :) Thanks for sharing it with us.

Always with the Dog, I didn't like Cats as much as I like Dog

Thanks for your feedback, looks like dog fans are getting the upper hand here :)

Yes I guess in India around 75% will say dog and only few will say Cats

That´s interesting... I would say in most Europe, it´s pretty much 50/50 :)
