Today we will visit another wonderful place, hidden among the beauties of the Homolje Mountains in eastern Serbia.

It is a cave named after a nearby village, and it is called Ceremošnja. This cave is smaller than Rajko’s cave which we хаве visited last week, but it is no less beautiful.

As we said, the Ceremosnja cave is located on the slopes of the beautiful Homoljе mountains, at an altitude of 533 meters, at the foot of the highest Homoljе peak, Great Štubej (940 meters). You can get to the cave by a winding and not very well maintained asphalt road through a beautiful wooded area barely touched by human hands… which is unfortunately also noticed around the signpost to the caves Ceremošnja (left) and Ravništarka (right).

Данас ћемо посетити још једно чудесно место, скривено међу лепотама Хомољских планина у источној Србији.

То је пећина која је назив добила по оближњем селу, и зове се Церемошња. Ова пећина је мања од Рајкове пећине коју смо посетили прошле недеље, али није ништа мање лепа.

Као што рекосмо, пећина Церемошња се налази на обронцима прелепих Хомољских планина, на надморској висини од 533 метра, у подножју највишег Хомољског врха, Великог Штубеја (940 метара). До пећине се стиже вијугавим и не баш добро одржаваним асфалтним путем кроз прелеп шумовит крај једва дотакнут људском руком… што се нажалост примећује и на путоказу до пећина Церемошња (лево) и Равништарка (десно).

Open Sesame!

Another resemblance to Rajko’s cave would be the way it was discovered. Again, the first ‘researcher’ at the beginning of the twentieth century was a local brigand, the far-famed and notorious Ivan Babejić. Such were the times. From time immemorial, the brigands needed a safe place to hide the looted treasure. Just remember Ali Baba (not related to Ali Express) his cave and his forty thieves.

Speaking of Ali Baba, while waiting for a guide in front of the cave, we tried to enter using the classic way described in the literature – “Open Sesame!” – and a slightly modified diplomatic way: “Open Sesame, or I’ll break your every bone!”

Друга сличност са Рајковом пећином била би начин на који је откривена. Опет је први ‘истраживач’ почетком двадесетог века био један локални хајдук, надалеко чувени Иван Бабејић. Таква су то времена била. Хајдуцима је од памтивека било потребно сигурно место за скривање напљачканог блага. Сетите се само Али Бабе (није у сродству са Али Експресом) његове пећине и његових четрдесет разбојника.

Кад смо код Али Бабе, чекајући водича испред пећине, покушали смо да уђемо користећи класичан начин описан у литератури – „Сезаме, отвори се!“ – и нешто модификовани дипломатски начин: „Отварај Сезаме, иначе има све коске да ти поломим!“

For some reason, the ancient methods were not effective, so we still had to wait for the guide to open the cave quite banally – with a key! In the meantime, we were able to read the basic data from the board and plan posted at the entrance. The cave was arranged for tourist visits in 1980. and open on the 4th of July. The total length of the cave channels explored so far is 775.5 meters, while the length of the tourist trail is 431 meters.

Из неког разлога, древни методи нису помогли, па смо ипак морали да сачекамо водича да пећину отвори сасвим банално – кључем! У међувремену, могли смо прочитати основне податке са плоче и плана који су постављени на улазу. За туристичке посете пећина је уређена 1980. године и отворена 4. јула. Укупна дужина досад истражених пећинских канала је 775,5 метара, док је дужина туристичке стазе 431 метар.

The entrance to the cave itself is rocky and not too exciting, but as soon as you enter the first hall…

Сам улаз у пећину је каменит и не превише узбудљив, али чим уђете у прву дворану…

Our guide for this occasion was Boban Trailović, a guy who, in addition to the cave, also takes care of the restaurant that belongs to the cave complex.

Yes, this cave is smaller in area than Rajko’s cave, but here too we have high ceilings and abysses where light does not reach…

Ова пећина јесте површином мања од Рајкове пећине, али и овде имамо високе сводове и поноре где светлост не допире…

We also have Rimstone pools, although much younger and smaller than in Rajko’s cave.

Имамо и бигрене каде, мада много млађе и мање него у Рајковој пећини.

Here you can see impressive, massive pillars supporting the vault.

Овде можете видети импресивне, масивне стубове који подупиру свод.

The lighting in many places in this cave changes color, which gives a special atmosphere to the shapes… however, do not expect a disco.

Осветљење на многим местима у овој пећини мења боју, што даје посебну атмосферу облицима… ипак, не очекујте диско.

At the end of the first part, we will show a couple of stone sculptures. Look at this stone Serbian soldier leaning against a pillar on his eternal guard…

Almost hidden behind it is the petrified crucifix of Christ.

Готово скривено иза њега налази се окамењено распеће Христово.
