Unemployment is a big issue globally now, with most parts of the world experiencing its adverse effects. When it comes to the issue of unemployment in Africa, governments often receive the most criticism for their inability to create jobs. However, I believe the real issue lies in empowerment, where governments are just one key player among several stakeholders.
The first step towards empowering individuals, in my opinion, is providing them with the right education. This education should equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and create innovative opportunities for themselves and their nations. People often view Elon Musk as an alien due to his groundbreaking innovations and thought-provoking ideas.
His knowledge and leadership have undoubtedly played a significant role in various industries, creating many opportunities. In Africa, we have prominent figures like Aliko Dangote, a business mogul whose entrepreneurial vision has created numerous opportunities. If we had more individuals like him, particularly across Africa, I believe the economic landscape would be significantly different.
Examining the contributions of these successful entrepreneurs reveals their immense impact on the development of the business sector and their nations. I believe approaching life with an entrepreneurial mindset is essential, even if you don't intend to become a business owner. Thinking the way an entrepreneur does can equip us to tackle life's challenges effectively.
Learning from successful entrepreneurs provides valuable insights applicable to various aspects of life. Notably, their ability to define a clear vision and set actionable goals towards achieving it offers valuable lessons for anyone. Setting goals is not just a requirement for running a successful business; it's essential for living life. Without clear goals, we lack direction and the drive to achieve success.
Living a fulfilling life involves setting goals, envisioning our desired future, and taking proactive steps towards creating the future we want. Again, taking calculated risks is essential for success in life, not just in business. Successful entrepreneurs are those who have mastered this art. Many people miss out on many opportunities due to their fear, doubts, and uncertainties.
In life, having an entrepreneurial mindset can mean being willing to take risks to pursue goals, try new things, and seize opportunities for growth and development. For most entrepreneurs before they became successful had failed many times but still chose to pursue while believing in their vision. To every entrepreneur, failure is often a stepping stone to success.
Failures teach us valuable lessons and provide us with the opportunity for growth, helping us to learn and gain more experience needed for success. In the face of failure and setbacks, great entrepreneurs always bounce back and still pursue their goals. Throughout our lives, being resilient is crucial to overcome challenges and obstacles, and ultimately achieve success.
Having examined some of these entrepreneurial traits, we can clearly see how relevant they are in our own lives, regardless of our circumstances. Entrepreneurship is not just about starting a business; it is more like a skillset we can use to navigate life's complexities. By cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, we can bring about significant changes in our personal lives and contribute to the betterment of our nations.
As for risk taking, sometimes I feel like risk taking should be a whole course in primary school to study
It’s really hard for the youth to take important and good risks that will help our lives
But for the unnecessary ones, we’re quick to do them
And truly, failure teaches us an important lesson in life and most people don’t even see. They tend to blame people the moment things are not going on well instead of finding the mistakes they did and providing solutions
And which is why most gen Zs are entrepreneurs but are barely making it
I would say, not only risk-taking but also entrepreneurship should be a course taught at every level in school. I have been wondering why financial literacy, where individuals would learn about savings, budgeting, the ability to make good financial decisions, and managing risk, isn't yet part of most school curricula.

For entrepreneurship I know it’s something being taught in senior high school because I learned it myself
But for financial literacy, I’m sure that’s what our maths teachers call business maths which is funny because there was no practicality in the business maths I studied in school, everything was just abstract
I did entrepreneurship during my undergraduate program, so I would say it should not just be limited to a certain level but should cut across all levels. These days, kids learn programming at an early stage because we have seen its essence and why it can be better grasped while young. Financial literacy could be done the same way. For business maths like profit and loss, interest, and compound interest, which I learned in school, I still see their application in business today. But the point is, even where they are being taught, it is not done in such a way that students see their applications in real life. They teach abstract concepts just like you rightly said

That's why we have a Hive conference coming up soon in March. Regarding learning more about Hive, something a newbie should know, we have made provisions for that, including video tutorials on YouTube. I believe there is much been shared daily on Hive, especially in LeoFinance, or Inleo, that can provide people with the necessary education in finance. The issue now is how to get people to know what has been built here and what's going on within this space.

Yes yes yes! The school curriculum is flawed in almost all countries! I am also having the same question as it is a no brainer that children need this! I believe that most of what schools thought is great for life turned out the be wrong. The system is failing us when it comes to providing children with the right education for life, not for just employment. I think that the old ways are meant to instill an attitude of obedience, which produces the perfect employee. I cringe when I look at the things that kids have to memorize and learn knowing that it is precisely the wrong thing for life preparation. We need to learn kids how to think.
I think there should be room for improvement in many areas of educational systems around the world. Personally, I've learned things whose essence I haven't seen today, and even when you complain, some educators still fail to see why we need a change and to align our focus with the current state of the world and the future. Upholding the traditional systems of abstract teaching is something I see ongoing in most Ghanaian schools. It's important that we help our kids learn skills and knowledge needed for life, even if our educational system is failing to do so.
I think risk taking can be exciting and rewarding but it's also really important to assess the risks and make informed decisions because some risks are too big sometimes. I took some last year tbh I am happy I did but it really affected me, I am good now though
And I also think the environment greatly affects the entrepreneurial mindset. It can shape perspectives, provide inspiration, and influence the way entrepreneurs think and approach their work.
Sorry to hear that things didn't turn out well with the risk you took. I would say we can only learn to take calculated risks and not just any risk. Also, I agree with you on how the environment plays a crucial role in shaping our perspectives and thinking. Our world would have been better, and issues of unemployment would be drastically reduced if most of us began to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset. Entrepreneurship is a very lucrative skill to have but unfortunately, it's not part of most school's curricula in Africa. I didn't learn about it in school until I got to the university level and they still didn't go deep into it. Education is very important but are we even getting the right one in Africa? We focus so much on science and arts, dwelling more on theories than practicalities meanwhile many people graduate from school without knowing the basics of economics and financial management, which are crucial life skills

Africa suffers unemployment even after spending years in college, many are discouraged about going to school because after the whole stress you stay at home with your certificate. An entrepreneurial mindset can help arrest the situation.
Which is why there is a feeling of school being a scam. Training people to develop entrepreneurial skills and then empowering them further to start something on their own can be a solution.
Those of us who are committed to entrepreneurship are aware of the many difficulties that we are going to have to face. But, life is about that, about living and facing challenges that allow us to enjoy this path towards a clear goal much more. The key is to enjoy each of the steps we take regardless of whether one is not the most appropriate. Life gives us the opportunity to reinvent ourselves every day.
