What has this notebook been hiding all these years?

That was a surprise for me today too. These pages were not forgotten, but I didn't think too much about these seemingly irrelevant scribbles. Yes, yes, I know they are not doodles - these are my son's artworks when he was five years old.

The reason I opened this notebook and saw what you also see in the photo is that I needed to look at a recipe in this notebook that used to be the place to note down the culinary spells. To do some magic... as I have been in the middle of work already for two days (and you will see these days what it is) and in one moment I realized that we will need some lunch. It was urgent. I had to find a recipe for a quick lunch and while leafing through the notebook, I saw these creative expressions of a little boy - my son.

This notebook was also used for Spanish lessons when I started taking them... Sometimes my son would also come and when he was bored he would draw. He put his hands on these pages, and probably with my help we marked the outline around his hands with a pencil. But the point was not in the hands alone, but that these lines were converted into a drawing of an animal. Do you see which animal it is?

Yes, an elephant. With a bit small ear, though.

Many elephants were made this way, adding an eye and an ear to these little hands. If you like, try it at home, put your hands (or your child's hands) on a piece of paper, draw with a pencil around them, add a dot for the eye where the thumb is and draw the ear. Also, a line would be needed for the elephant's back. It is easy and fun!

The notebook was hiding more surprises. Papers where Mipiano junior in his 5-years old version started to write the names of the musical notes and the treble clef. I think he had relatively good handwriting for his age... maybe nicer than he has today (don't tell him this 😂).

That one treble clef had some troubles 😁 but it was the nicest MAMA writing one can ever get...

These little drawings and writings reminded me of one work he did in kindergarten. A smiling face made of painted pebbles. Although I know the teachers helped with this, it is still kept in the drawer of my bedside table. The paper is already slightly crumpled due to the weight of the stones.

This was a speedy journey back in time, that came without planning, but I am glad it happened.
(He had a lot of other drawings and paintings from that age but they are not right now here with me, so I can't show them now here.)

...questions...

If you are a parent - do you keep the memories like your children's drawings when they were small?

If you don't have children - do you keep the drawings you made in your childhood?

Sometimes when I come across old stuff especially books that I have used before, I my time to go through and see what the old me was like. Most at times I come across scribbles and God knows I’m always curious to find out what I was trying to write down.

These memories of you with your son makes me want to have my own kids soon.🥹🤭

Oh, yeah, there are scribbles in my books too from the days I was studying. sometimes I laugh at those funny writings 😂 I let my niece my books when she went to study and I was tempted to erase those things I wrote and draw there 😅

😂😂 even if you clean it you’ll still have to think about what was written there.

The best thing to do is keep them as memories for the future.

My mother used to have a diary(notebook) on which she used to write recipes and she has written some records of our childhood. But, sadly that notebook is lost.
Strangely, the notebook which I used to have to write my travel things is also lost. Actually in last many years we have shifted our home again and again..in this long run we have lost many things. Still memories are alive in the heart and mind 💫

I imagine that many things are lost as you had to move many times... that is sad, but as you say, the memories are alive, and that is important 😇

Nice trip back in time. What an original idea about the hand outline painted elephants...we never did it 🥺, but we will!!!! 😂 I also keep a lot of Oli's drawings, others ended up hopelessly in the trash, there were too many!!! 🤗

I want to see that elephant if you and Oli make it hahaha. I am sure it will be a very nice, artistic drawing :))

I am sure it will be a very nice, artistic drawing :))

Lamento decir que te has equivocado...el elefante nos ha quedado horrible 😆. Evidentemente se nos pasó la hora, es para manos pequeñas. Tal parece que está montado en zancos...con esos dedos largos y delgados de Oli 🤣🤣.

IMG_20240321_170526.jpg

No, no me he equivocado jajaja.

What a beautiful memory, it is a notebook full of emotion. I love it!

I don't have children but I do have a folder full of my drawings and those of my brother who is five years younger than me although he is taller than me. They are in good care in Argentina, but... I will bring them back one day.❤️

That notebook is a mixture of scribbles art haha, recipes and first Spanish lessons 😁

That is cool that you have a folder of your and your brother's drawings. I have none of mine. (could be that I didn't draw anything? I should ask my parents :D)

Surely you drew, you're artists, you'll have to ask, because you sure did!!!! Big hug!❤️❤️❤️

That writing names of musical notes part was interesting to give a read. I enjoyed looking at the cute little drawings (more of attempts to draw)

I do possess my old sketchbook where all my great works are hidden. Haha

You are lucky to have your old sketchbook. Keep it!!

Hello friend, how nice that memory and it is fascinating that you still have that great notebook and in that way remember those great drawings and I liked that elephant, it is very nice and with a unique touch. At home we also have a recipe notebook and my mom is always writing things in there and time goes by and it keeps growing of used pages. On the other hand my high school notebooks are also full of drawings and that was like 2015.

This notebook is not so old, I mean more than a decade passed since those elephants appeared there but it is still in decent shape (must be as I don't search for recipes many times. 🤣 Almost never... but today I needed to see one, and guess what - it didn't turn out very well 😂

May I continue with you for many years to come.

Aww what beautiful memories. Mipiano Jr. was clear from early on what he wanted to do, smart boy! Creativity and sensitivity are not lacking, I loved that tiny-eared elephant. Kisses for both of you. 😘

Yes, it seems that he knew! well, he grew up with music (he was listening to the piano even before he was born) so something he had to catch from me 😁

🤗

Looks like the book is not only for Spanish lessons but tonic solfa, drawing and so much more

True. A fusion!

Such tenderness and beautiful memories. So you keep that smiley face created with stones by mipianito on your bedside table. I melted with that!

I keep it in the drawer of the bedside table. As on the top of it, there is a collection of books that are waiting to be read, at least two packages of hand cream that are also waiting to be used, a little portable lamp that has to be charged (so it is also in the waiting phase lol) 😂

two packages of hand cream?

Do your hands feel so rough that you need so much?

They are a bit sensitive to cold, so in winter I should use hand creams but I keep forgetting to do that 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

If you don't have children - do you keep the drawings you made in your childhood?

I have my sketchbook from preschool, it is full of abstract figures that in those days were elephants and lions. I drew all kinds of fabulous things that in the end were meaningless lines, but that somehow fed my creativity. How wonderful that you keep these; they are traces of time, which will at some point remind us of how wonderful we are.

¡Beautiful article!

Thank you @soldierofdreams 😉

The drawings that children do are never meaningless. Maybe they seem to others, but not for the author, who knows what they represent 😇

Friend, how nice to see the drawings we keep of our children and grandchildren in my case. Your post is very nice.
thanks for sharing. Happy weekend. 🥰🤗❤️

Yes, they are little treasures ;) Thank you @mamani 🌺

I think in my home back in Cuba could be some drawing of when a I was a child but the problem is that we move like 3 o 4 times and all of those were disappearing , I just draw a lot, I loved your son elephant! 😁

Buenos recuerdos señorita Mipiano de los jardines, las recetas milagrosas y los dibujos infantiles 😁😅

I know... that is the thing when we move many times. We have to reduce the stuff that we keep 😕

Las recetas milagrosas no salen muy bien 😅 entonces mejor me quedo con dibujos infantiles 😂

😅🤣🤣 como yo que me invento recetas raras aquí 🤣🤣

That so cute😍my 4 year old little boy also loves to draw his hands ,maybe I should keep those drawing he made🥰

You should definitely keep those drawings 😇

Yes, I keep them.I even keep the birthday cards or any cards that my daughter made for me

That is sweet! We keep it and one day when we find them it is bringing us nice moments 😇

My daughter is now 16 years old and I still have them and whenever I see the cards it makes me smile.

What a tenderness, what a peculiar and funny technique of making an elephant haha digging through the writings, you made a lovely trip to the past ❤️

My mom threw away all the drawings I did as a child, they took up space haha so I don't have any of the doodles I did as a child 😂

What a nice handwriting MiPiano junior of 5 years old has hehe even I at 29 years old can't write like that, I'm a mess haha 😂

Greetings dear, a very nice TBT ❤️ 🦉

I don't have them either, maybe I didn't draw or my parents also threw them away 😂

Mipiano Junior at 5 years old had better handwriting than he has now too, and I always have a bad one already. The culprit is the habit of just typing instead of writing... Thank you little wise owl 😇 🦉
