Donating and Charity shopping for Market Friday

in Market Friday2 years ago

Hello Hello you wonderful Hivian!

It is Friday and I am popping this post together for #marketfriday by the super amazing helpful and wonderfully generous @dswigle

Each month, often twice per month I will pop down to one of our local charity shops and donate some items to be sold to help their charity. It could be books, clothes or whatever else that we no longer need.
This particular day which was Wednesday I was taking some books and DIY tools of which I had duplicates.

Let's stroll around some of these charity shops on Kirkcaldy High Street and see what I found!

The first shop that I came to (and where I donated my goods) was for Cancer Research UK. Having lost a few family members and friends to cancer, I like to donate here as the proceeds go towards research on cancers and also care for cancer sufferers.

Most of the charity shops either pay no or reduced rents, which is great until the landlord wants the shop back and the charity has to relocate premises elsewhere.

They like to dress their windows like real shops, and you can tell that this is the summer over here, with the vacation mode theme of this window!

The booboo of the day. I love ducks and birdlife in general and I thought I would get this little painting on the way back. We came back about three hours later and the blooming thing was gone:(

Big Brother is watching you Coming out of the shop I snapped one of the many CCTV cameras. Are they all the place in your country too?

The next on the list was the Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland charity shop. I virtually always get my Christmas Cards from here, they have a Scottish theme and are very funny!

This was the men fashion section including some rather dated ties 🤣

In keeping with the dated theme, they had some figurines of the 1920s era, what would you say ladies?

They did this funky teapot, what a trip and all I could think of was magic mushrooms 🤣🍄. Imagine the stories you would be seeing if tripping on mushrooms from that teatpot!

Any post for Denise has to have #alwaysaflower by @dswigle and I have to confess to not being a fake flower person. But whatever floats your boat and these roses would be fine enough on a table somewhere.

Then it was time to pop into my favourite charity pdsa which stands for The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals

Who could resist when you see the wee cat and dog welcoming you in!

This was the shop where I saw this cat doorstep mat @coquicoin

This is the inside of the shop, they had tons of books and DVDs as well as clothes and gereral bric a brac. At the front they had new things, and we have bought quite a lot from them recently.

I was tempted to buy this from my nephew Ageese @coquicoin , what do you think @bloghound @ifarmgirl am I worthy 😁

The mystery item

If you saw my Wednesday Walk post then you will remember that I posted this picture and asked what it was, and how chuffed that we got it for £7.50 although I gave them the change from the tenpound note that I paid with! I said someone would win 500 ecency points if they guessed it!

And we had a few people who either knew or guessed correctly!

untitled.gif

Yes it is a ceramic hot water bottle or foot warmer and so much more environmentally friendly that plastic water bottles that break and end up in the landfill or worse!

Well done to @george-dee who is one of The Charming Rascals and who was the first to answer correctly and your 500 ecency points have been sent.

This being the week of EVOLution from @dreemsteem and @dreemport I also sent 100 ecency points to the following people who either guessed correctly or simply engaged about the mystery item:
@hoosie @nickydee @omosefe @coquicoin @littlebee4 @zyzymena @tattoodjay and to my original partner in The Charming Rascals @olawalium

You can see the stopper and the hole where you fill the bottle with water, also the one side that is flat, so it won't roll off the bed and break, also easy to put your feet on without it rolling around the floor!

We had a charity shop to visit and it is in the Mercat shopping centre. We popped in through Boots the chemist.

Can you beleive it!! They had none of my shade of blue make-up😉

I popped this one it, as I used to like the American version of this store.
TK Maxx if I remember in the States it is called TJ Maxx

Here was the last charity shop on our route The Salavation Army
I like them as I had a great Aunt who was big into them and her name was Aunt Winifred ! There you go @winniecorp

They had some great books here as we shall discover!

Another charity shop getting on the theme of the moment!
Golf was invented in Scotland and the home of golf is at St Andrews where the Open tournament is being held. St Andrews is in Fife and not that far from where I am. The beach there is actually where I first took my baby steps walking!
So yes they have some old golf clubs for sale 🏌️‍♀️🏌️‍♂️🏌️

I said there were be books here, and look @olawalium your greatest manager?

And you @kenechukwu97 perhaps your greatest club servant?

I am a Rangers fan and what have those two footballers got to do with Rangers?
Fergie was a striker for us for a couple of years ago and is from Govan where Rangers play in Glasgow, and Gerrard was our manager who took us to 55 league titles a couple of years ago.

I see Man Utd captured Erikkson. I wonder if they will beat Liverpool 4-0 again one the season starts!

I did see this wee Eiffel tower and of course thought of @littlebee4 who was on holiday there a wee while ago. She has some gorgeous photographs of her time in Paris if you want to see them and see what beautiful Paris looks like!

The last one on the list was Barnardo's which is a children's charity.
A new building is being constructed and I fear they lose passing trade as the footfall is down.

Being a children's charity I loved these colour of Doc Martens!
Is this the colour for your hat @fionasavourites

They even had a bleeding lephracaun with an Irish proverb
"May the road rise with you,
and the wind be always at your back"

Teapots, every shop has teapots!
I liked these blue and white ones, however they were chipped round the other side. However any excuse to say LOVE YOU and I took that picture!

Nigerians love their soup! Would you use this when you serve me my soup @zyzymena

#sorrynotsorry these were so darn cute that I had to put them in again🤣🤣

And because you made it this far and are in the Hive
You Are The Bees-Knees

Last but not least #alwaysaflower I love this time of year with the blue and pink flowers of the Rhododendron

And this got mega long! I am sorry for taking up your time if you managed to read to the bottom!

One last thing, do you have charity shops like this in your country? Do you donate to them or buy from them?

Thank you so much for the consolation prize, much appreciated. I see it was a perfect buy.
The Eiffel Tower is great, funny you found one in Scotland. I didn’t buy one in Paris 🤩😉 hehehe 🤭
Great shopping day for you. Thanks for sharing 😎
Have a great weekend! Enjoy the night 🥱🥱😴😴😴

Yes in days of old I would have bought the wee tower, I am sure I had had a few over the years, Now I try and have none of that dust collector stuff Jackie!
The bee cups were good. It was a fun wee trip
Enjoy the weekend Jackie:)

I so get you. We do the same… it just stands somewhere and collects dust. 🤓
Thank you so much Ed, you do the same. Enjoy your weekend 👋🏻☀️

Exactly, I just call it more clutter you need to giveaway etc when you move 🤣🤣🤣

I want so many things here, should I send you a list 😆

hehe if they are still there, some things go fast, some not so fast and they reduce the price!

Oh that's nice I guess

Well yes as the charity gets the money, if they don't sell they don;t have money!
Hope you are having a great weekend Ophelia

I wish we had that here, it would have been nice, and yeah, have a great weekend too

It would be good if you did.
Thank you Ophelia and you too 😁😁

I didn't know Gerrard made a book too. I've read fractions of SAF's book and I would love to read about Gerrard's as well. There are so many things to choose from here and the cat doormat made me smile...

I am thinking Gerrard might have more than one, I am sure Fergie does. Yes there were heaps of good things.

Wow. So much to catch up on. Would love to dig in. Thanks partner. 🤗🤗🤗🤗

You are so welcome partner, I am so behind in hive the last couple of days, I am trying to catch up and I hve not visited you yet, I will be there tonight!

I totally understand. Same with me. Been a bit down and just trying to stay strong. I haven't been sick in a long while...

Oh no, I hope you are feeling a bit stronger today partner🙏

Slightly better. Just still feel weak and sleepy most times too.

This is a huge Market Friday experience. Haha. And that Young lad (Gerrard) has carved his name in our history books.

Our current assistant Coach wrote a book which have been getting some really good promotion. I never knew Stevie had one of his own. It's impressive. Hehe.

Erickson to Man United is a done deal. Haha. I saw his retweet of the official announcement just before jumping into Hive to see your post. Lol. That's a steal from Man United. Haha.

Have a nice weekend mate ✌️

I am thinking Gerrard might have more than one. Who is your current assistant coach, I just know Klopp. Yeah a good move for Utd for once.
Thanks and you too, enjoy your weekend:)

Haha... About our assistant manager, here is the book

img_0.3160588297421031.jpg

You know, liverpool were on the way to do the impossible by hitting quadruple last year. This was supposed to be a masterpiece after hitting quadruple, but we missed out on the big 2. Haha.

That is your assistant coach, I am struggling to remember who he was.. yep the big two so you just a little double!

Oh what a market tour that was Tito Ed! Thank you for bringing us to every charity market you've been to and it's awesome to see the many interesting things they have. I'm sure your nephew would love that mug hehe :)

That was about a half of them that we have , but the ones that I prefer to go too CJ!
I was tempted to get the mug, they had ones of Tasmania San Francisco all sorts of places, some were pretty old and worn though!

Oh so there's a lot over there, amazing! The mug looks good but if the others are too old and worn out, it wouldn't be good at all.

haha yes well the mugs look used on the inside, I go nooo thank you 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah there are lots here, and they are getting busier again. The cost of living has gone through the roof, so now many people are buying used or not at all CJ
Have a awesome weekend:)

Oh, no thank you then, lol! But good for them getting busier these days. I now wonder if prices of things will have the chance to go down. It seems the inflation will drag on.

Thanks Tito Ed. Good evening to you and awesome weekend too.

Things never seem to go down to levels of before, they might go down if there is peace in Ukraine and things get more normal, but companies will stay make profits and we the consumers will always suffer.
Enough of my moaning, hehe have a great Sunday CJ!

Haha, thank you Tito Ed. Happy Saturday night to you

Now you made me wanna go shop right now, uncle Ed haha. The boots, the mugs...OMG! Go get the tiny lil mug, uncle Ed!

hehe the boots were so damn cute Mrs P!
Yes I may well just go back next week and see if the mug is still there, shop goooo go gooo Mrs P!

Woot woot! I kinda want one too, uncle Ed!

hehe oh do you ;)

Once again thanks for taking me on this trip T 😆
First water stones and now Salvation Army? We truly have a lot to discover.
Haha “big brother is watching you” got me 😂 you watch the show too?

Well we do have charity shops and even homes in my country. Recently my family and I donated a three seater chair to a church member, I guess that counts.

Oh you have charity shops, excellent. And a three seater couch heck yes that counts JW 👏👏👏
I believe that show is on although I have never watched it🤣🤣🤣

Morning Squire!

:)

Thank you! I'm really touch you thought of me.

What a treasure! That's a keeper. The ceramic water bottle...<3

Yep. We have charity shops like that down here. Yep! I both donate and buy from them. I LOVE a good bargain and they're interesting to dig around in.

I've also only purchased second hand books for years. Even as gifts for people :) They sometimes have notes and inscriptions in them... incredible to "meet" people and see a bit of them accidentally. I bought a book that had been given to a kid as a school prize once! It had the little certificate still stuck on the front page inside and everything. Who could resist???

Also. It saves trees. Of course! And caring about the planet is sexy. The end.

This post really took me back some years. Your photos actually resonated in the recesses of my now older mind. I bought a little metal statue of the Eiffel Tower just like that years ago... lost in the journey.

Boots... good lord. I shopped there when I lived in London for a while many, MANY moons ago 👀 Totally forgotten until today!

And the inside of the store - I used charity shops as well when I was in the UK for a bit. There's something about that photo that brought back the feeling of being in the North. No specific memory. A feeling... interesting.

What a great way to wake up and have my first coffee :) Thanks for this!

Morning morning Super Ed!

That's a shopping tour with something for everyone haha 😄
I was having my first coffee reading this and suddenly I felt like having a tea instead of a coffee to see if I get inspired 🤣🤣 Although in your case, I don't think you'll need to have a cup of that funky teapot to make mind-blowing stories 😂😂

Your nephew would be more than happy to give you a mug like that, and I don't know what Cj and Jeryll think but Ageese and I think you deserve it 😻

And by the way, speaking of blue makeup 🤣🤣 if you want I'll send you some. And that reminds me that I have to get a pedicure and wear my king blue nail polish.

Thank you for the points 🥰

Have a super magic weekend 💙🤗

Hola Hola Super Eli and I am sure that you did not have a tea though🤣🤣🤣
You are right my imagination needs no stimulating once it takes off😉

I might pop down again this week and see about the mug, we do need a couple more!
You do need a pedicure and rock the Kings blue nail polish, and I will wear the matching make up🤣🤣🤣
And yes I made myself laugh!
Have a magical weekend Super Eli:)

Hola Super Ed!
Haha! you're right I didn't drink the tea but I've already had 3 cups of coffee. I like tea more in the afternoon, hehe ;)
The blue guys 🤣🤣 Don't forget to get your hair done too.

untitled.gif

This Super Eli //// where was the warning, thankfully coffee was not at my lips!
Love it;)

Haha, you said it's all about blue today ;)

What a trip, kuya! They didn't have mugs for kuyas there, did they? :D I think my fave is PDSA. The dogs and cats welcoming you in is enough :D I wouldn't have guessed the foot warmer. I thought it was a vase or something :D The first teapot looks heavy. CCTVs are a thing now here too but what is the use of them if no one is monitoring those? Also, most have low resolution you won't recognize clearly the persons captured by those. Too bad about the painting, kuya. And the make up! What a disaster! lol!

I've been wanting to have a pair of Doc Martens but they are pricey lol! I think the cheapest is about USD142.

aha kuya, a mug for kuyas now there is a thought! That would be cool, I bet they do overthere?
Yes I love the pdsa and get a fair few finds in there:)
Yes it is a ceramic hot water bottle and so environmentally friendly too!
The CCTV well they all get monitored at the police stations, and evidence is often used in court case, we have had them for flipping years.
The make up jaja @coquicoin said she would lend me some of hers🤣🤣
Doc Martens are awesome, I used to have their shoes when I was at school, so they have been around for a long time! The boots I have had a few pairs, well worth the money as they are quality and do last.
Have a brilliant weekend kuya😁😁

Haha! I'll send some. 🤣
untitled.gif

jaja I am still cracking up at blue wigged cat!
Damn it is all about the blue today:)

Blue and more blue for you today Super Ed 🤣🤣

untitled.gif

Make sure it glows in the dark lol!

Sure I will 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, yes they do. The are mugs for big brother and sister :D

The city has now set up a center just for those to monitor the cctvs around the city. It's interesting enough that I want to work there lol!

Ah, I hope you have the right kind of hue :D That's very kind of you @coquicoin :D

Haha!! It is, right? LOL
Happy evening, Kuboy :)

Super Eli Super Eli where have you been! Happy Sunday :)
I hope you sent it first class....💙

Hello hello Super Ed!
I'm here, but in a bit of slow motion, haha. It's been raining almost all day, and I'm in lazy mode. But I should get active and try to write the BOM post.
How was your Sunday so far?
And of course, it will be first class, with you always 😉💙

Hello Hello Super Eli, mine was good, we were doing bits and bobs but I did manage to write the dreemport post this afternoon, two days late jaja but better late than never!
Yes, we need to write the BOM, unfortunately artwink has had two OCD votes this week so we can't curate here one from today. But I did do Joan.

So relatable with that lazy mode lol! Same weather here and nothing to do but to be lazy :D

I am tempted to get that mug now kuya
Oh go for it, that would be cool, get paid to people watch!

That gave me an idea to go window shopping for big brother mugs for #MarketFriday :D :D

Fantastic, I do love an idea, look forward to seeing them kuya

I hope I can. I've been swamped this week! Can't even make hive that much.

I can't choose which item is my favorite. They have so many nice things, and I love love love love the 'world's greatest uncle' mug😁. And, yes we do have charity shops and homes in Nigeria as well. Thank you again for the 100 ecency points.Great post!

It is good to know that you have charity shops over in Nigeria 😁
They do lots of great things and I think I will pop down on Monday and see if the 'world's greatest uncle' mug is still there hehe!
You are welcome for the points it was fun to see people engaging:)

Is obvious you had fun yesterday. As for Erikson, I do not see him as a threat.

It was a blast, always fun seeing what is in the charity shops! Erikson is a steady player, but who knows with the ELP I am only interested as I will be playing fantasy football🤣🤣🤣

What a busy day you had! Weren't your fert sore after all that shopping 😂

This post has been manually curated by the VYB curation project

hehe that is the beauty of those shops, they are in a close area and only about a fifteen-minute walk from our house, so thankfully feet were okay🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the curation wrestling and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

How fun, @tengolotodo! Those charity shops look very appealing to me! I saw a couple of things that I wouldn't mind buying.

I also appreciate what you do on the regular basis - donating stuff and in that way supporting causes. Well done, my friend!

They are awesome shops, and knowing that you are helping people and/or animals is a great feeling. Sometimes you really do find some awesome bargains. My wife is not a shopper at all, but she is a charity shop fanatic and drags me all over them!
Thanks it is fun and enjoy the rest of your weekend😁

That looks like a really fun day. The nearest store to me that I help out with donations is Goodwill. They are mostly clothing, books, and old furniture, but occasionally they'll have a gem. I like to browse for old 78rpm records there and a couple years ago I found these two really creepy clown paintings that I brought home and turned into arduino powered Halloween paintings - the eyes on one of them glow now, and the eyes on the second will shift back and forth when it "sees" movement.

aha I thought you might go there looking for 78's!
Goodwill I remember that one from when we lived in Florida, used to have some good furniture finds:)
Haha those clowns, by the sounds of it, now they are really creepy after your handiwork🤣🤣🤣

what an array of charity shops. I live in a rural area beside a village of about 2500. There's a second hand shop (you'd call it a charity shop) that opened just before the pandemic hit. I've been watching them on the FB and have been really pleased how much they contribute to the community.

Yes that is one good thing about the UK, we do like supporting charities through charity shops. That is brilliant that your shop made it through the pandemic, some here could not make it. It is even better that they are contributing to your community:)

they received some donations from community groups to get started not long before the pandemic happened which likely helped and both federal and provincial government had some supports available for businesses locked down that they would have been able to access.

That is cool. We had support here for some small businesses that was dispensed from the UK government to the Scottish government for dispersal to Scottish businesses. Not all of it reached businesses, and certainly not in an expedient manner, it now transpires the SNP (Scottish National Party) Were syphoning off this money to pay for the next Independent Referendum nonsense, meanwhile some local businesses have gone to the wall!
