Having been on steemit for over a year now I have seen many a hardfork. It was roundabouts hardfork 18 that I started to do animations.
Hardfork 18 was the one which changed the payout period from 24 hours to 7 days and at the time caused much wailing and nashing of teeth. There were many self combusting rage quits.
An unexpected consequence of this for most users was the resetting of the rewards pool. We then had to wait almost a month before payouts started returning to normal.
Users left in droves at the time, low payouts and a low steem price made them flee. Others went on strike.
It was about this time that I started turning my attention to the next hardfork. Hardfork 19. I wanted to do an animation to make light of the dread that people were experiencing for the next one.
I decided to make hardfork 19 a character. Given the reaction against the last fork I knew he had to be a villain. But what kind?
It was the term consensus that nailed it for me. In order for a hardfork to be implemented a certain number of witnesses had to be in consensus for it to be done. The term reminded me of the Daleks from Dr Who. I decided to make my animated character a clumsy, murderous, box-like robot who's catchphrase was consensus. His name was HF-19.
My first attempt was this one.
I had a whale of a time doing it. Laser eyes!! It was my longest and best one yet. Everyone seemed to like it too.
There was a long wait till hardfork 19 and news came out that the rewards curve was to be flattened into a more linear progression.
It gave me an idea for my murderous buddy. After all he was good at flattening things.
Ouch, that was a sore one!
Eventually the reward pool started to fill up. Steemians became happier. There was no news on the arrival of the hardfork. Some people were nervous. Again I tapped into this and decided to bring him out HF-19 for another jaunt.
This one took a lot of work and to top it off I decided on a cheeky wink from our villain. I also got to include skulls, always a favourite!
There is always the worry that people will take offense and sure enough I was accused of spreading FUD with that one. Fortunately enough people saw the funny side for me to carry on.
The thought of spreading FUD made me chuckle. I have only ever done these things to raise a laugh not for people to genuinely think I was a terror-monger.
So with the hardfork date announced and my tongue firmly in cheek. I made the last one for HF-19.

HF-19 is still one of my favourites. So it wasn't quite the end of him and he might appear in future too.

You are right there. Despite quitting the increase in the steem price seemed to bring em all back claiming they had just been sooo busy!! Hehe!!

When you get around to making your first animated show, know that I will buy every piece of merch... Any arguments about selling me all of your merch will result in flattening until consensus is reached.

Heck no. I wish I did. These are just a little hobby I started. I have always been into digital photo stuff and tried it a bit back in the day but wasn't very good at it. It does make me chuckle, it's the reason I do it :0)
Maybe one day it will become a job! When spotted by the right person you never know! I think doing what makes your chuckle and laugh is the best thing one can ever do. I follow my heart with my art and poetry. I like to take digital photos as well but I am far from a pro. Most of the time I just click away!
Just clicking away can work a treat though!
I would be over the moon to do stuff like that for real. Who knows, maybe one day. I think I am getting better which is always a good thing,!
Oh man! I'm just so happy I was able to witness his birth right until the very end. HF19 will always hold a dear place in my heart. Heck, we even went on a few comment adventures (commentventures?) just because of him! It was a good send off for him, and I can't await until he pops up for a cameo or two in the future. I feel like I'm his weird uncle who likes every comment he puts Facebook haha! He's just too relevant, he's the villain that we all need. Great to have a look back on his brief life. You did a good job raising him, dude! :D

He has a fond place in my heart too. He was perfect for puncturing the fear on the platform at the time. I used to live streaming up new scenarios for him to spread his murderous love around!!

When they create a retrospective video of the things that are lost from Steemit, it would be a crime if HF19 isn't featured there!! The other HFs won't ever replace that lovable murder bot!

Wow!!! Had a laugh watching it.. how long does it take just to do one animation?
Each one takes a couple of hours. The one with the pool took a bit longer. It's long and repetitive but very rewarding when finished!

Oh man! It just occurred to me that this post would work perfectly for the hardfork series thing, you know with the-alien, andrarchy, ericvancewalton;, they're even doing a competition with prize money involved. Just change one of the tags to hardforkseries and you'll be golden!!

Do you spend your whole work day making the cartoons? I figure after the thrashing you gave the "Penguin" over the worm hole, top brass would leave you alone for fear of retribution.

How much does it take to complete you one animation, I am really falling in love your animations and the story behind it. I will try flipaclip app soon if it is not too much time consuming.
It's very time consuming!! That is the one downside. It usually takes a couple of hours of solid effort. I tend to do bits at a time to break it up so can spend a couple of days with a half hour here or there. And thank you!

The rage quitters get me. I mean how much can you expect to earn. No where I know of even comes close to here!
I know. I have said it to folk that here whether its cents or dollars you earn its still something. Bck then there was a high profile rage quite almost every few days!
Love these! Apparently I've been asleep at the wheel and missed all of them... I love seeing them in order like this.
Your robot reminds me of a toy my boys had growing up...a robot-ish soldier toy that talked and said tough things. One time they left the button 'on' in their closet. One day I opened the closet door to put away some laundry and.... LIGHTS FLASHING! and "GUNS" POINTING! and the robot saying SECURITY BREECH! SECURITY BREECH! I felt like the guy in the cartoon above getting his reward pool flattened!
Hehe, you paint the picture really well!! I can slightly remember a robot like that actually. Maybe it was a buried memory!
