Once more. I stared out at the massed ranks of the enemy before me. My mouth was dry as it always was before battle.
The late afternoon sun slanted down, glinting from the mass of spear tips pointing skyward. Their sheer number, impossible to count.
I loved this moment and I hated it. The moment before battle was joined. When men cried to whatever Gods they believed in that they would see the end of this day.
Or pissed themselves in terror at the butchery to come.
I had many thoughts, many plans and none of them involved pissing myself.
Not today at least.
A cold sweat broke out on my brow and I regretted the flagons of ale I had thrown down my neck the night before.
Regrets are for the weak and I cast them from me like Christmas socks in February.
An eerie yet familiar calm descended on me as I resigned myself to what lay ahead.
The slaughter to come.
I will survive this.
I thought.
My hands tightened on my weapon, trembling slightly as the cold steel of it burned my palms.
I will survive this.
I had thought this enemy beaten. This Godless foe from seasons past. I could no longer count the times I had trudged wearily from the field, stained with the blood of the fallen.
And here we were again.
How many times would we fight this battle? How many times would we march forth against each other? How many times would I fill my tankard with ale to wash away the dark deeds of the days like this one?
One day I will lose.
One day there will be no ale afterwards.
Daddy-Bear, are you going to bloody mow the grass or just stand there staring at it all day?!
The Good Lady yodelled from the back door.
I made a face.
Yes, one day I will lose.
But not today.
RAAAAaaa mow down the GREEN !
Bit strange , but i have no problem with that . As the green mostly don't like me . ;-)
I mowed the shit out of the green!!
It won't be darkening my door again!! :0D
Bahahahahhaaaaaa XD
I was wondering what you were staring at XD
I'm guessing you won this time seeing as you're writing this? :)
I won, for now...
:0D wahahaha!!!
hah .. again. You have stories to entertain me and have a good time. thanks for this my dear..
You are most welcome. Cutting the grass can be a devilish tale :OD
Till up the front lawn. Plant veg. Fertilize it with any Karens who complain or code enforcers who try to cite you for violating some petty ordinance. Who said gardening had to be boring? And no lawn mowing!
I tilled up a third of the back one. Kid it goes well I might till up more!!
Here in the USA sometimes people must turly be warriors or brave knights to tear up their garden lawns and plant veg. I kid you not, there are parts of even Florida ( A great growing region) where it is illegal to plant vegetables in your garden! And I've just heard that in a state I used to live in and some family are still in here that seed and plant sales have been deemed 'non essential ' and even the big box stores areas of seeds/plants soil and supplies have been roped off and not allowed to sell those wares!
Luckily in my bit of curmudgeonly ole New England we're all dyed in the wool gardeners and I think if they tried to take our seeds/plants we'd turn around with the spade or rake we'd already have in our hand and give "Them" a good wallup! At least, I know I would. And don't even THINK about touching my chickens!...
Okay, I've gone off a bit hot under the collar, I'll compose myself, but yes, Dig for Victory! Till it up, plant it up and be damned the Cargo ships of food (though I do worry about food shortages) nothing is more terrifying than a hungry population. :/
Now soldier on with your weapons of spade and hoe!
I had heard that there were places where it was illegal to plant vegetables in your garden. What the heck is that all about! What happened to freedom!! O dug up a huge bit today to sow garlic and onion. I like to reek a bit :OD
Mmm such good plants. All those bulb Allium types just WANT to grow. I mean you can eat the things, then restart their tops and get more!
Yes the 'freedom' Americans go on about is rubbish and we've not had any such freedoms in this country for decades, really it all changed post Civil War, but most of my fellow compatriots know more about what football team did this or that than even where States are located on a map, so for them to understand the constitution and it's various disuse is a LOT to ask.
Garlic needs a good cold on it to get good, so usually planting it in autumn is good to get it the follwing season, but again, Alliums WANT to grow and multiple so they'll do it!
I didn't know that about the cold thing. Fortunately, is quite cold here up till next month! That might do it!
