so brace yourselves. in a country where i do not speak the language and the citizens have zero interest in speaking mine (accepted ... their prerogative and i am after all in their country of my own free will..... i get that) .... and my lady has left for a few weeks .... means short of calling everybody up in sunny south africa just for conversation... i have nobody to talk to. to coin a phrase 'the silence is deafening'

many years ago there was an album in my collection from a band called 'girlschool' ... in 1982 my entire record collection was stolen via a breaking whilst i was at work .... i decided to revisit their music and was presently surprised to find the following track .... where they were playing alongside my man lemmy..

You can always use the Google translate app on your phone to speak Italian in more or less realtime :) Or am I thinking too simplistic?
Google has a really nice 'conversation' feature.... but do you think i can convince them to speak into my phone? they look at me as tho i am mad. also they speak very fast and leave out some words ... then i am lost

In Asia a few years ago I tried few times this real-time voice-to-text translation feature. Worked kinda. Must say, this was mostly with restaurant and shop peeps to ask them something and get some information. It was really fun, we had a few big laughs, mostly about how the tech translated I guess 🙃
i use that but my souf effrikan accent confuses the americanised google translator and i get some seriously bemused looks from the poor italian trying to decipher my message.... i am sure one day a woman will slap me for some (innocently) offensive remark
I believe Italian ladies will use a soft hand when slapping, hence all good 😉 😂 😂 😂
just on an aside... italian ladies and to a lesser degree the men .... are vertically challenged. my lady who is only 1.56m's tall looks down on most of them {smile}

Must have been full of Italians, an ever-growing community in my tine city 🎶 🥳

I can probably add it and try not to get too confused (I don't actually know how similar it is to Spanish/Portuguese/French, I just know it's in the areaish and I'm already occasionally confusing those three) but I'm already kind of doing a lot ^_^; (also doing Indonesian and Chinese, yes all at the same time, I'm not very smart).
when I said "I'm not learning Italian though" I meant I'm not learning it right now not yhat I'm not going to do it, I tend to just pick up languages based on random reasoning like the two Asian languages I should already know but don't so I'm trying to fix that, I have a few characters that speak French and Portuguese, and Spanish I just picked up as it seems quite a number of the OCA artists speak Spanish
The main point with the friending is being able to cheer on milestones and maybe we might end up on a friend's quest together XP
