Many bloggers become famous due to the insane amount of traffic they received to their blogs or websites. In Sweden, we have many "blog-celebrities". Blondinbella for instance. Her real name is Isabella Löwengrip.
I might be wrong here and I won't try to discuss or share any major details regarding her career. But let's just say it like this:
She started out like a teenage girl who published tons of post about her newest lipsticks and whatever. She shared photos and basically used her own blog just like people are using their Facebook accounts. - She got insane attention and quickly become a "celebrity" with thousands of followers. She's 26 years old today. She's a Swedish entrepreneur, author, lecturer and blogger and she runs her own company.
She has more than 700,000 likes on Facebook. 25,000+ subscribers on Youtube. Almost 400,000 followers on Instagram and almost 70,000 followers on Twitter. - With that being said, she started from scratch and she worked her way up. All the way to the top.
The fun part is, that she adapted too. And that's why she's still very successful. - She knew she wouldn't be able to be this average teenage girl her entire life so she became an adult and also changed her approach on her social medias too.
However, we're talking about one person here. How many million bloggers are there?
Let's face it. Facebook, Instagram and all these platforms are killing personal websites & blogs. - Because you don't need blog's anymore. - They're outdated.
You can create your own business page on Facebook with just a few clicks. - It takes a few minutes, tops. - It takes you a couple of seconds to upload your most recent photos on Instagram and you can with ease target customers, find new clients or talk with both new and old friends. - Social Media is killing everything related to personal blogs and websites.. - And in my honest opinion, I think it's great.
That being said...
Take a look at Steemit. You have raw potential here. All it takes for you to become successful, is you. You have the tools, you need to figure out the best way to use them.
You could use your Steemit blog for personal use only, or for business related things. You could even create and run your own business on Steemit. - Look at @randowhale and @booster for instance. Both great initiatives to boost the presence and people's content... For a fee. - How awesome is that? - It's literally the perfect business!
Look at @neoxian. Savings & Loans and SP Delegation service. - Both awesome ideas. He not only helps the community or individuals by doing this, he also profit himself by doing this. - He runs it like a business.
Take a look at @lauralemons, a great author who shares content in various niches. Personal, non-personal, funny, sad etc. - She shares basically everything you can imagine. - However, one thing stuck out.

And what does that mean...?

All it takes, is to come up with something unique. Something you believe would work. - And do it. - You have nothing to lose.

What you do is entirely up to you. You can use Steemit for what it is for most people. A Social Media platform where you can earn money from content and curation. - Or you can use it just for fun. For the sake of using something different than Crapbook and all these other boring platforms...
You can share whatever you want. Photos, stories, memes or whatever suits you... And you could use Steemit for business. - What matters though, is that you strive to be yourself at all times... And that you take advantage of the opportunities you see.
I know what I have in mind. I know what my long haul goals on Steemit are. - I know that I'm dreaming of becoming a well-known, established Steemian who could make a full time living on Steemit. - And I work hard to reach these goals.
However, there's nothing that says that I ever will reach these goals... - But I won't give up.
- I truly believe that blogs & websites are dying, and I believe Social Media is killing them. Slowly. - However, I also believe, that Steemit has so much potential so I bet it could make people turn their backs on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter too.
I mean, it's 2017. - You've probably had your Facebook account for about 10 years already... - How often have you earned a single cent? - It's time to earn. Mark, where's our rewards?
I've probably made a few thousand dollars on Steemit already, in 1 year. - So, sure, I'd probably stay on Facebook too, in case I got a payout for $50,000 or so. - Mark, send me a message on Steem.chat in case you want to transfer the funds to my paypal. Otherwise, I suggest that you pay me in STEEM or SBD. - It's easy to transfer these currencies between users.
Oh, and btw. - Mark. - Make sure to send $50,000 to all your users too, while you're at it. - All your users deserves some sort of rewards, don't you agree? - I guess not, that's why you'll end up with a lousy, non-crowded platform within a few years. - That's when you'll come to Steemit and if you do, send me a message and I'll delegate some of my SP to help you grow your Steemit account.

hahaha... Yes, I'm spending very little time on facebook now after discovering steemit . I have to admit though that the climb on steemit is tough but I also realized that my expectation was never fair to begin with, I mean, of all my years on facebook, I was paid a big whopping ZERO.
I totally agree with you @hitmeasap. Honestly, I also truly feel that website and personal blogs are dying, and it's just a matter of time.
Rather than overcoming with the mountain of information to actually even get started on SEO, Facebook and other social media platform links you directly to your target niche.
Rather than create widgets and program html or Javascript, you hit the road running saving on huge developer cost. Since Facebook and other social media platform are free for use, you don't even have to pay a hosting fee.
The entire ecommerce market is changing so rapidly and I would Steemit provide a value proposition that no other platform can rival at the moment.
Whether my convictions will play out, I don't know. Only the time will tell. Steem on everyone!

Steemit has a rather steep learning curve. - But it's more rewarding than any other social media platform out there. But due to it's steep learning curve, people also tend to stay away from it. - However, that's why @minnowsupport exists for instance. To help newcomers. - That's also why I often focus on minnows and newcomers and that's why I strive to help, encourage and motivate all the people around me. - To give them a better experience and to make Steemit a better place for all of us. :)
hahaha... steep learning curve is nice way to describe it, it's an entirely whole new world to me ;) I came across @minnowsupport but am honestly clueless as to how to bet involved in it or more accurately, how to get help from it. It read a little techy and I'm not really a techy person so am hoping that there's a simpler way to understand what I should do.

The big social media platforms - like Steemit ;) - attract a large audience. This audience is easily reached with the right content. This connection would not be possible with an old fashioned blog.
I actually wrote a university paper about Blondinbella a few years ago and I learned a lot about blogging. But trends are changing fast in the world of online content distribution and I agree with you that blogs are not ideal anylonger.
Blogs are too difficult to get started with and you will have to work too hard to have people read your content.
Steemit is a freaking awesome tool! You will be able to get rewards for your original ideas right away and you will not even have to spend 5 minutes working on technical issues because that is already taken care of by Steemit.

The thing I love about Steemit, is that it gives everybody an opportunity to succeed. It's an equal for everybody, if you put in the time, you will reap the rewards.
I've been saying that ever since I signed up. However, most people don't agree with that, due to Steem Power and people who's heavily invested. - And sure, I can see their point, as a whale could easily upvote his own content to reap rewards, but for the rest of us.. It sure is the same opportunity. - Everyone can earn. Everyone have a chance to earn.

My best guess is, that the rewards will be spread amongst all the users, just like it is today. However, I also believe it would be a wider spread of the rewards compared to now. - But I do believe that there's still some people who'll get more support and reap more rewards than others. - Which is why I Steemit is truly the future. Because it's possible for everyone to become an established author. - Hard work and effort is all it takes.

Tonight is my first night on Steemit and it's blowing my mind! I've was thinking about starting a website to try and make money as I go around the world, but now I'm wondering if it's even necessary. Thanks, and I agree. Platforms like this are going to change the need for personal websites.
Seriously, these companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google etc. are generating money through ads. Using our data, they are providing us with personalisation and henceforth, we are clicking on the ads. Therefore, the ads business is going well bcoz the advertisers are satisfied with the services.
Therefore, we need to replace this centralised based system with a blockchain based platform where publishers, advertisers & users can be owner of themselves.

I don't think blogs are dead though. Successful bloggers normally get their traffic from Google anyway, i.e. millions of unique monthly visitors.
Facebook has a crappy algorithm which only shows your posts to probably 5% of your followers or less. I heard it's 1% if your page has more than 100k followers. I think Steemit will change all that. Sick of the restrictions imposed by Facebook and more recently, Instagram.

I don't think blogs and websites are dying, they serve their own purpose. You build your brand from website/blog, social media as it's name are tools for interaction with your fans and follower.

Even though I get your point, I can't fully agree with you. I've had several blogs and websites and truth is, in the beginning, I made these to interact with my friends. - It was fun, cool and new. It was before social medias. - Nowadays, there's literally no reason for people to create their own blogs or websites, because they have Facebook and whatever.
Some people still does it obviously, and some of them are having great success too. But that's because they do something unique. They think outside the box. Social medias today, are used to build your brand. As an individual and a business. - Everyone use Facebook today. Big or small companies and individuals. - But none of them get paid for it.
So why would people still use Facebook when they can launch their entire business on Steemit instead, and earn both curation and author rewards.. And from sales or whatever? - Steemit is the future.
Haha that's why I'm here these days. I'm pretty inactive on Facebook now :)

I hear you. I haven't renewed any of my domains since last year. - I can't see any reasons to do it nowadays. I don't need blogs or websites myself nowadays. It doesn't benefit me like it used to do a few years ago.

And yeah, I know. Mark will never answer or pay me or anyone else money to use Facebook. But he should. I truly believe he should and the thing is, that he could afford it too. However, that part was ironic, even though I meant every word of it.
I agree with Steemit, but I also think a lot of people share nonsense just because they can make money with photos of themselves. I find it hard to climb up in numbers, while I think I write interesting articles that you can learn from. But I like to stay here and use it as my portfolio for now and maybe the number will grow

There's nothing that stops you. What you need to think of is.. - Is it really worth it? - Or - Is it possible to share the things I want to share elsewhere or do I need a blog?

Awesome post and I completely agree with you. Steemit can be that. I also have a friend who became succesful with her blog and I had blamed myself for not thinking of having one. Now I just hope I will succeed here, on Steemit, like everyone else does.
I use facebook to post my Steemit blogs. I get some likes there on some blogs.
