Steemit Newbie Guides: I Have News, DTube Presence Incoming

in #steemit6 years ago

Hello dear followers and random passerbys.

As most of you know, my blog is all about helping newbies by giving them a leg up on how to properly onboard in Steemit, use Steem blockchain apps, and hightrack their way to success in a lightning fast way.

Throughout the last few days, I've been thinking about making my guides into YouTube videos since I have some editing experience.

The last couple of posts I've been encouraged to do so, so that was the tipping point.

This post serves to tell you that I'm going to start making the video guides soon.

Hey, @flauwy, I won't compete with you - promise!

Hehehe.

The good thing is that, as Steem is only now starting to grow, there's certainly room for everyone.

If You Want to Recap on My Guides: This is a Good Opportunity

What I'm going to start by doing is to turn my already existing guides - the one's I wrote in text form and have been sharing on my blog - to video format.

I'll add some stuff, as it is easier to explain by showing rather than by writing, but most of the info there you can read on the appropriate posts.

What this means is that in the first few days, I'll be giving out "video-lessons" on already explored topics, so if you want to recap my guides this time in an easier to digest way, stay tuned.

If not, well in one week I can probably tell you that the content is all going to be brand new.

What Do You Think? Followers' Thoughts Matter

As I now have about 1550 followers, your thoughts matter a whole lot.

It's one head from this side and 1550 heads on your side... so your opinion matters.

What do you think of all of this?

Plus, if you had to choose a style, would you prefer:

  • Screen Sharing Type Guides (show you my screen as I explain stuff);
  • White-Board Animation Type Guides (those cool cartoons)
  • Slideshow Type Guides

... or what?

If you have any opinion on that, let me know.

I'm a pretty competent editor for any of those.

That is all, for now, I just wanted to let you know of this decision.

So, @dtube, prepare those upvotes! I'm coming!

Cartoons are good.

I say vary by content. If it's a howto, screenshare. If it's a psycho triad, I see white board. I'm not too keen on slides because they often amount to an unfinished version of something like the excellent guides you've been writing. Honestly, I prefer written articles because I can go at my own pace, but some things do cry for a multimedia view.
I'm glad you will add dtube videos. I read that they don't have the permanence of steem blockchain posts and you have to IPFS seed it yourself to keep it available in some cases, correct?

The videos won't replace the traditional guides... I'll post the written guides but also offer the video version.

So those who prefer to read will read, while the others can watch instead.
Cheers!

I am a HUGE fan of the written word, so a little pang of sadness squeezed my heart when I read this. I do, however, understand the necessity to cater to demand, and these days there are probably millions more YouTube (soon to be replaced by DTube) subscribers, than readers in all the libraries the world over. Not to mention the language barrier a video tutorial can overcome.

I am in the screen sharing camp as I find the whiteboard cartoons a bit distracting, the same way as when I watch someone's vlog - I find myself wondering about things like the picture on the wall behind the presenter, or trying to figure out what the writing says on their shirt, or if they brushed their teeth...however, it may be that people would also like to see the face behind the voice, perhaps during the intro or conclusion. This personalises the interaction, which seems to be the foundation of the Steemit concept.

Thank you so much for your helpful, informative guides, I really enjoy reading them and hope you will continue with the written ones too.

Hello there,

As I mentioned in another comment, the video guides aren't going to replace my written guides.
I'm simply going to offer the written guides AND the video guides on the same post, so those who prefer can read them and those who prefer to watch can watch them.

I'm doubling down.

Cheers!

That's what they all say 😉 just kidding, glad to hear it!

Hey @spiritualmax,
I would be into seeing either the shared screen guides or the cartoony ones.
It's going to be awesome to have your info in that format! And probably easier to absorb :)
Looking forward to seeing some of this new project of yours!
<3 @amymya

That's exactly what I thought.

And you guys all talking about how my guides were too text intensive and easy to get lost with was one of the core reasons that made me go this way.

Cheers

I think this is a great idea. I always said the best way to show your true knowledge and or learn it better is by teaching others!

Yeah, the intention is to teach people in an easier to absorb way.
Cheers!

It's definitely easier to understand the general idea via video.
For me it sounds good the idea of being a mix of these two:

Screen Sharing Type Guides (show you my screen as I explain stuff);

and

White-Board Animation Type Guides (those cool cartoons)

Maybe, who knows, I'm definitely getting inclined to try and mix them up as the opinions are shared among these two.

You may try explaining it by white-board animation and then showing us how it should be done by sharing your screen.

That's actually a very good idea. Thanks!

No problem. I'm trying to help you so you can help me. :)

Screen sharing feels intuitive, I'd say.
And thank you for your continued hard work and most excellent guides. 🙏

Thanks Midfrost!
I'll see you around mate, thank you for the kind words.

Personally I like a lot of the white board type cartoony guides and explanations.

I usually watch one of those from Ted or Ted ex when I am going home in an attempt to do something useful during traffic.

I watch one episode a night as a quick informative video to learn something new every day.

Noted Mav!
Thanks for leaving me with your opinion!
Cheers

And then you reach a certain point you just have to keep on writting and commenting like you said.
It comes a time where you ask @spiritualmax to check out your blog for a minute and advise.
Thanks bro

I stumbled across you from a comment you made on someone else's page. Perfect since I'm new here. Thanks for helping out the newbs!

That means my advice to comment a lot works :)
No problem nomadic, Cheers! :D

I'm so glad you're doing this!
I'm a pretty new follower (I follow you since the whole thing with the Magic cards) and I wanted to read all your guides, but I didn't 'cause I'm an idiot. This recap will be very helpful.
Also, I like the ideas of white-board animation and screen sharing guides, so I would love it if you choose one of those for your videos...

Great!
Glad to hear it.
Thank you very much for the follow :D

Cheers

That would be great... I am finding it difficult to get started. I am not defeated and I will struggle on, but surely it is difficult for newbies. So any guidance and help is hugely welcome.

Thanks for stopping by.
Getting started is the hardest part.
Keep on grinding and dont give up!

Honestly, I choose the style that you're most comfortable with - because that's when you can share most effectively!!

Congratulations for taking the initiative to produce video content. Personally, I'm a producer of video and audio content so I'm super excited to see my buddy over here doing the same!!! Cheers @spiritualmax!

Thanks Aaron!
Guess we'll keep on stumbling upon each other then :D

Whiteboard style sounds great, it seems like you have enough know how to pull that off well.

To be fair though, it would just be good to hear from you from a different media perspective. It's great that you are going to broaden your avenues of exposure.
What sort of ideas have you been considering doing? Apart from what you've already said.

I'm thinking about continuing with my guides, and make them more complex as I go....

Then I'm thinking of creating videos mashing up several guides on the same topic, as to keep people's awareness of all of the tactics I've talked about for each given topic.
Cheers

Hey man. I'm stoked on this idea! And I'm glad to hear you'll do your old articles; at the very least it will be a nice refresher on some stuff myself and some other users who have been following you may have forgotten, or missed.

I'm a big fan of the screen sharing idea. For me, that is easily the most helpful. But that's just my vote.

Looking forward to it!

Im glad you liked it man.

People have been telling me I write too much on my guides and its hard to keep track.
Hence the idea!

Cheers

Well I think that's kinda bull. I don't think you write too much; it's all very useful information. It's just a lot to take in when you're new, which I'm sure you know very well. It's easy to use a source of information as a scapegoat when someone's having difficulty processing said information.

Anyways, yeah, I think it'll be helpful!

Thank you for the support Herbert!

Nice idea.

I'd like the screen sharing with animation combination. Slideshows bore the shit outa me.

Cheers

Will consider that.

Screenshared vids would be great since you can show us realtime where to go and what to click.

Thanks for contributing with your opinion!
Cheers!

Thank you! This will be very helpful to us newbies.

Glad you like the idea.

Yes because I am now staying here for a week but im still lost.

It's hard to be lost here at first. Keep on reading and try to learn more and more.
It gets easier with time.
Dont give up Daisy!

Thank you for the encouragement. This will help boosting my confidence here.

That's great news! I prefer screen sharing with a tiny head in the corner lol.

Noted! @eonwarped already says I have a tiny head, so maybe I wont even need to resize it.

post you provide very nice and help

I will join

Great idea, just go ahead mate & o start making videos, ;)

Will do wolf!

Cheers

Finally... i like to hear you talking.. About the style I'de like Screen Sharing or whiteboard, whatever makes you feel comfortable with.. =D

I'm comfortable with anything :D

I should have known that xD
