Getting Help
Nestor and Moana had realized that they could not know every need of self-driving trucks and that they should get inputs from other experienced truckers. Moana had been a member of the Independent Trucker Association of North America (ITANA) for two years and Nestor registered as soon as he got his license.
They described online to the other members of the association what they were doing and asked for suggestions. What features are they missing? What existing features they would like to improve?
They got a lot of responses. Some of them were off-topic, but most of the replies were giving them directions that they had not thought about yet. When a topic was much discussed, they knew they needed to add a setting so that almost everybody would be satisfied.
Nestor and Moana also realized that they should get help for writing the software itself. They put what they had already designed and written on github with an open-source license. And they advertise their project on several forums.
The software was written in a way that was not mainstream, so not many engineers offered to help. One of them was Archibald who told them that he would review the code and make suggestions.
Another engineer that was enthusiastic was Paramvir who, like Moana, became a trucker after graduating from university, with a degree in software engineering. Paramvir had had the same idea as Nestor, that is to write a software system for self-driving trucks, but he never acted on his idea.
Paramvir lived in North Vancouver and was also an independent trucker, member of ITANA. He started in earnest to learn the software designing method and began to write part of the software after several weeks.
In time, Paramvir became later the first paid consultant of the NeMo Trucking Software company.
