Wednesday walk challenge in Harlem and Steem Basic Income Give away

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

I love seeing all the walks people share from all around the globe each week, this past week we had 57 Wednesday walk posts, thank you all

Also before I forget today is SPUD ( Steem Power Up Day) an idea started by @streetstyle , check out his latest post about it [here] (https://steemit.com/spud/@streetstyle/steem-power-up-day-has-officially-started-in-new-zealand-and-it-s-free-may-1-2019-steem-steempower) I have done my power up to support this initiative ;)

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Try to limit yourself to a set distance or time from the starting location, say 5 Blocks, 5 Minutes walk or whatever and see what you can find in that short distance

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all.

Following me and resteeming the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion, but you may have a better chance of receiving a Steem Basic Income Share if you do.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, resteem and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk, plus I will be sending @steembasicincomeshares to a selection of those who participate.

This weeks walk from 125th Street Metro North Station

For this weeks Walk that I will share, I will share some shots I took one morning when I decided to get off the train At the 125th Street Hudons Station and take a stroll

Harlem has some very cool old buildings and I will share a couple starting with this one, which at first thought I was considering doing in Mono with the golden morning light on it I had to keep it in color

For this next building i went with mono I love the style of many buildings in this area, but this one particularly

My walk took me through Marcus Garvey Park where i saw some more sings of spring including this little tree

And still in Marcus Garvey Park I came across this statue by Kim Dacres and Daniel Alexander called Peaceful Perch

And now we get to where i was heading to witht he plan to start my photowalk that morning, but as you can see I still had my camera out getting shots along the way.
This is in Central Park, at the opposite end of the park from the Pond and Gapstow bridge which I have shared before in an area called Harlem Meer and one of the walkways into the park.

As you can probably guess from this shot I got here at around 7 Oclock and not to many people were walking the paths at this stage.

And here ends this weeks post, but not the walk, I continued walking through Central Park for a while sincevit was such a beautiful morning

Steem Basic Income give away

I mentioned in the guidelines that from this week I will be sponsoring a few who join the #wednesdaywalk challenge with shares on Steem Basic Income

What is Steem Basic Income you may ask well here is how they explain it

Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content. so I have decided to send some Steem Basic Income shares to 5 people selected through a random draw so on the weekend all people who joined in last weeks Wednesday walk. @hmayak, @amuchtar, @fruityexplorer, @porters, @dabeckster, all people who joined in last weeks Wednesday walk . And a special bonus this week @elizacheng will send one SBI share to @joalvarez,

I would love to be able to give everyone who joins a Steem Basic Income share, but I don't make enough steem each week to do so, but I will try and share them around fairly between those that join the challenge

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

Thanks the resteem is appreciated

The early morning warm glow on the first photo is lovely.
Can't beat the golden hour especially with the rich colour of the stonework.

Imagine... having Central Park to yourself. What a joy.

SPUD sounds like a good idea. Be interesting to see what happens.

Thanks, When I do my morning walks there i just pick a small area to check out before heading tot he office and before to many others head there, as you can see this was heading in at the top end, a couple of days later i went in by the Mall and Bow Bridge but am so far behind in editing i have not even looked at those yet

The Bow bridge one sounds intriguing. I haven't heard of the Mall. I'll keep an eye out for them.

Thanks so Much appreciated

A lovely walk @tattoodjay and your landscape images are simply gorgeous. Superb buildings, gorgeous blossom trees, a very interesting statue by Kim Dacres and Daniel Alexander (I love that peeled paint effect on its stand) and I could gaze upon that last picturesque scene for ages. (U & R )

Thanks that morning was just perfect for a morning stroll and I am glad I was able to share part of, I walked down that path in the last shot and explored a bit of Central Park afterward

thanks for your support

That first shot is extra gorgeous, @tattoodjay! My second favorite this week is the blooming tree, but they're all excellent captures, as always.

Here's mine for today - https://steemit.com/wednesdaywalk/@traciyork/wednesdaywalkonapril29th2019steemblopomoday31-04mreg5er2

Thanks again for hosting this, and... !tip

Thanks I just saw your post and glad you got a little bit of sun :) and what a gorgeous post,
thanks also for the tip truly appreciated

Love the final shot. The trees have wonderful colours. And always great to see central park pics with desolate footpaths.

Somehow central park resonates with me as a place of moody solitude not of socialising.

Of course it serves both ideas but most of my views are shaped via 70's movies like marathon man rather than my brief real life forays into the park itself.

Thanks for sharing Jay !

That’s the impression I to had of the park from the times I had seen it inMovies before coming here and int he early morning you can for sure catch that feel not so much during the day n warmer seasons

Thanks for you visit :)

I love those old buildings. The park shots are nice too. When a lot of people think of Harlem, they don't think more of the crime and not the beauty that is there. I have heard it is going through a revival though.

Yes It seems to be going through a revival, when I first got to NY some told me not to walk around there as t is to dangerous, I of course being me ignored that but did feel uncomfortable in some areas, but the feel there is a to better now

I feel like a lot of people think NY is dangerous, but really most people are so busy doing their own thing that you kind of have to be looking for trouble to find it.

True I have heard that from family and friends, and it is true there are some areas that I would not go to at night, and I am pretty easy going and not cautious for the most part, but the vast majority of NY to me is very safe

You are right of course, you should use common sense always, especially at night.

Well at night isn’t a problem for me these days i am usually well on my way home to CT before night sets in these days :)

thank you @tattoodjay, invited me on #wednesdaywalk

MOst welcome :)

Thank you so much, have a nice day too!

Most welcome :) and may the sunshine upon you soon

Early morning photography when no one is stirring always pleasant.

City living finding beauty in among the buildings and parks quite challenging, you find good balance presenting both.

Thanks Morning is my favorite time t be out and about taking photos while it is relatively quiet, relatively being the key word in NYC it is never quiet lOL

City life does not appeal to me at all, NYC has wonderful parks which would be a saving grace, another being close to the water watching the world go by.

Th same for me thats why I have a long commute to live in a small city which is really a town in so many ways and has beautiful beaches and parks, I wonder if i will miss walking around NYC Ike I do now, when I retire. will be interesting to see

Always a pleasure seeing your walk, JJ. Your season is a bit ahead of mine by the beautiful foliage on the trees. Great old buildings with wonderful architectural designs.

MY Pleasure :)

Harlem does indeed have some amazing building and the light you captured on that first shot was amazing too. I visited Harlem years ago. I wasn't into architecture like I am now and so failed to note the structures too much. Went for the culture and of course the food. Wonderful share, Jay. Below is my contribution to #wednesdaywalk:)

https://steemit.com/haiku/@prydefoltz/set-the-shore-on-fire-haiku-and-wednesday-walk-with-tatoodjay

It is an interesting area for sure it used to have a bad reputation but that is slowly changing, off to visit your post now :)

That last picture is bad ass.

Thanks thats is where my real walk started this is about 120th Street I think and I walked through the park to 80th street then went and caught a subway back towards the office

Hello.... @tattoodjay !!!!
:D
My entry for today's
Wednesday Walk
https://steemit.com/wednesdaywalk/@annephilbrick/5kedzz-wednesday-walk

Thanks I just saw it what a lovely post but i still cant get over that brook and how it looks Ike a river now

the buildings are really very original !!! I like the way you chose processing for each of their photos. You did not know what kind of tree? very beautiful! the statue is funny :)))))
https://steemit.com/wednesdaywalk/@tali72/wednesdaywalk-a-short-walk-along-the-streets-of-be-er-sheva-b964f9ae757cf

Thanks I generally do that with every shot I edit depending on my frame of mind I go with one style or other if edit

I am terrible at remembering proposals names let alone trees lol

The second photography is incredible! Time goes by the walls as if it had a body!

Thanks kindly I think the mono really worked well with that photo

No doubt those walls could tell many stories

🎁 Hi @tattoodjay! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @traciyork!

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

Thanks for joining I just saw your post :)

You must feel like you 'almost' have the city to yourself at that time of the morning. Beautiful photos of Harlem and springtime and an early morning walk in the park!

It does feel a bit like that but almost is the right word to add for sure what they say about NYC never sleeping is so true :)

I remember being out after a show and then dinner and walking back to the hotel in the early morning hours and being shocked at how many people were also out walking on the sidewalks! And then trying to sleep at night and the incredible amount of noise all night long from Street repairs and whatever else is going on! You're right - the city never sleeps.

Ohh yes I have experienced that a few times myself and it always amazes me I honestly think the city is at its quietest between 6 and 7 AM but is never totally quiet tloL

I have never seen that in any other city that I've been in the world, except for NYC.

Yes NYC is unique in that way for me I have never seen it in any other city

Its really beautiful morning with flowers and cool old buildings of Harlem. https://steemit.com/wednesdaywalk/@kamrunnahar/wednesday-walk-to-the-biman-museum
IMG_20180825_175610 (2).jpg

Thanks kindly 😎👍😎

I don't think we have a park like that anywhere in Alaska, but we do have some nice outdoor spaces, and some just ordinary mundane ones with out much color, which is a good segue into my wednesdaywalk post - https://steemit.com/wednesdaywalk/@bashadow/wednesday-walk-the-continuing-saga-of-the-driveway

Not much snow left, but not a lot of color to be found yet either. Of your pictures above, I think I liked the black and white mono building set the best, looks real Gothic to me and the top left corner area seems different, interesting so to speak. Reminds me of the movie "The Crow"

I just visited you post thanks again for joining the walk 😎👍😎
You may not have parks like Central Park there but with all the natural beauty there you really don’t need them I would take natural scenery over a man made park any day

Some of the man made parks though are very eye appealing, and they ca concentrate and highlight things more so than mother nature, but yeah, I like the mountain views that I have available.

The designer of Central Park Friday a few others around the states he had great vision and the parks are beautiful but still in the middle of a big city

Fantastic pictures, @tattoodjay! I’m so glad you run this challenge. It really is fun to see walks from all over the world.

And yes, it was SPUD day. I didn’t post about it, but I did power up what I had.

Here is my #WednesdayWalk post. I will have more enticing pictures as spring fully emerges in Minnesota!

Good morning it’s my pleasure to host this, Wednesday’s I get to virtually travel the world 👍😎👍
It’s great seeing so many got onboard with SPUD day 😎👍😎

I like that Peaceful Perch statue, unique, and good shot!

It seems like a person could spend a week exploring Central Park and not see everything. Thank you for sharing the pieces a little bit each week.

I ok forward to seeing your spring colors when they come out there, and yes there is so much to see in the park, I have been there many times and not sure I have seen it all

bj9m7g9mf4.jpg

I just saw your posts and WOW those colors at first from the thumbnail I thought you were visiting Japan

I wish i was visiting Japan in Thailand...lol :)

LOL I meant flying to Japan LOL, its a place I always wanted to visit but never made it there

Have been there once and it's on my bucket list to go back there for next spring to caught the real cherry blossom trees :)

I look forward to seeing your posts when you do get there:)

Definitely there will be some great stories from that part of the world :)

Howdy JJ! I think the architecture of the Harlem buildings are so interesting and unique, I don't know how old those are or when the area was built, do you? late 1800's? anyway it's really cool because I never see anything from Harlem.

I think you may be right with the late 1800s I could jot fine details for these particular buildings but others in that area are from that period
Yes Harlem isn’t often photographed or visited by tourists it did have a bad reputation fir years but it seems to have improved a lot over recent years
