Hi !

After literally a year of serious posts, I figured it was time to do a more light hearted one. I've seen @themarkymark do a few of those and I thought it could be fun to run one, So here's my official AMAA (ask me almost anything) post your questions as a comment and I'll do my best to answer :)

It can be anything. I put the "almost" because I might draw the line here and there if it's stuff that's too personal.

What else do we need to do to get closer to Patreon type feature set?

Also how would you go about approaching encryption for pay wall type content?

What are you favorite types of non hive development posts to find on here?

What else do we need to do to get closer to Patreon type feature set?

I think everything is there now (after hf25 I mean), we just need to build an app that leverages all of the core features. Paywall can be implemented as an L2 or even in a centralized manner in the first place.

Basically if we look at what patreon does: https://www.patreon.com/product/lite

hosted page where you can write updates etc => done that's hive
a wallet to get money => done
monthly subscriptions => recurrent payments
collect emails etc => has to be centralized for privacy concerns but it's not that bad imo
analytics => can be done relatively easily
paywalled content => can be done in a centralized or l2 way

Also how would you go about approaching encryption for pay wall type content?

That's a good question hmmm I think I would first make a centralized app, I think it's not that important to make it decentralized and have paywalled post shareable over multiple front ends, it's even better because it would drive traffic to your website which has a front end dedicated to that type of content, so the users will have a better experience. And it allows you to validate market need and market it first and then build a more complex version if needed. I would just encrypt the post and push them to the chain in their encrypted state, and then the front end would decrypt it when displaying it to users if they have a recurrent transfer active.

Then if (and only if!) there is a need for multiple dapps to interact with the same paywalled content, it gets more complicated but you could imagine a way for front end to share the keys it doesn't have to be trustless, there will only be a limited amount of actors making front ends anyways. And if this takes off, then we could spend the time figuring out the cryptography to make it native meaning there is no need for centralized key sharing. I'm not a cryptographer
so I am not sure it's even possible but it would definitely be worthwhile to research.

What are you favorite types of non hive development posts to find on here?

Hmmmmmm, I don't read a ton of non-development posts on hive haha, but lately I've enjoyed the work of @olebulls or for a more og, @fredrikaa's posts

Your list of what is left to be done is pretty accurate good to see we're on the same wave length.

I would think that there could also be a good business opportunity for a company to setup a CC-fiat processor that either converts to create that re-current transaction OR the user would have to setup with them to get fiat payments. (Not as cool as free easy hive transactions)

I think there is a pretty simple pay-wall solution we are looking at. We would still love to see encryption have a decentralized nature even if not totally trust-less. Meaning this... that the content creator could trust the platform (peakd.com) with the decryption ability and then tell that platform who qualifies as being able to read the content. Obviously this means they'd identify their qualifications for who gets access.

I would hope the interfaces would work together to use this simple type protocol and work to be worthy of the trust of their content creators. And then they'd have to agree on an ENCRYPTION method to help their content creators implement in their content.

QUESTION:
Do you think that the hive community is going to be annoyed by encrypted posts? Or how much and in what cases do you think they'll be annoyed?

On the CC fiat processor I think it's mostly about regulation hurdles more than technical hurdles

Do you think that the hive community is going to be annoyed by encrypted posts? Or how much and in what cases do you think they'll be annoyed?

I assume there will definitely be some downvotes sent here and there, but we could make it easier for everyone two-fold:

  • encrypted posts instead of just being gibberish would display a neat "this post is locked, please visit the creator's support page to unlock it"
  • front ends could make it so that encrypted posts are with declined payout (which solves the issue with potential self vote farms)

Wonderful that you enjoy it @howo, we will keep up!
Really nice to see you take your time and elaborate on your answers, awesome spirit! 😎

Haha thank you, what a bad AMA it would have been if I didn't take the time to reply.

Why have you never asked me a question?

Haha, I never really took the time to do it even though I red a bunch of the questions and answers. So here's one: What gives you the drive death treat after death thread to continue fighting abuse ?

What gives you the drive death treat after death thread to continue fighting abuse ?

I think you might have a typo, as I don't quite get the question, but I think I get the gist of it. I stopped doing anti-abuse a few months ago and took down the blacklist API.

I am mostly focused on other things now, but I still downvote (mostly Steem related bullshit and blatant abuse). I put far less time into it now.

I did do it for 3+ years and the drive has always been I didn't want Hive to be worth $0 because shitty people get most of it doing shitty things.

i give you a Ned for your work :)

  1. Would love to hear your view on the current discussed reducing weeks on powering down.

  2. I would love to hear your opinion on decentralized crowdfunding based on Hive (yup, something like fundition) because it is something I would really like to see it happen here

Great questions !

  1. I am in favor of reducing the power down time, I would even be in favor of a system where you can set the time you want to power up your hive, like all your power ups are powered for 8 weeks so you access witness & proposals voting, anything less you only get access to voting & curation rewards, which would solve one of the biggest argument against reducing the power down aka the exchanges powering up and wrecking havok as we've seen on EOS.

  2. I pretty much don't see anything preventing it from happening apart from a front end, in fact, my latest development for core hive, recurrent transfers, is there to support these kinds of use cases. So yeah definitely could happen, It's just a matter of someone picking the project up.

Thank you especially on the 2nd part of the answer.

Now I have some idea on how to start working on decentralized crowdfunding here on Hive blockchain.

How do you manage your time to hold both a day job, work on Hive, be helpful when I've got questions and help coordinate the dev syncs?

I'm very productive :D

I have the enormous luck of being passionate about programming so what other people view as a job (meaning they get tired of it after 8 hours), I view as a hobby, so instead of draining it it's actually entertaining to me, it's like how peopke can spend 16 hours a day binge watching netflix or playing videgames, it's kind of the same thing to me. So it's not too hard for me to work 70+ hours a week. I actually struggle when I'm in vacation because I miss the high of programming. I maybe a bit of a work-alcoholic x)

That’s great to know. Though take a break too :P.

Favorite programming language of choice(just in general, if you could only use one, which would it be)?

is it harder to work during the bull or bear markets?

Well it's definitely harder to work during bear market, I think it doesn't change too much for me because I've kinda become apathetic to price movements after so many bull/bear runs. But it changes the space a lot. There is less hype, people are not as motivated to build stuff because the financial incentive is no longer there.

How'd you get into crypto/blockchain? What project/coin/tech first got you to really dig into it?

I first got into bitcoin in early 2011 when I was looking to make some money off my computer so bitcoin popped up in my research. But I didn't really get really into it until 2015 when I discovered ethereum and I was blown away by all the possibilities, I mean digital cash was interesting but the use cases were limited, ethereum was like "woah the future is now". But I only joined as an investor, I didn't really find anything worthwhile that I could build myself (at the time every app was aiming to revolutionize everything). So it's with steem in 2017 that I started really coding a dapp and got more technical about it.

Why were you missing at your presentation in Bangkok ? x)

Not sure he will be able to answer that question if he can't remember what happened the night before. 😁

sangsom among other things hahaha

What do you think about my proposal :D haha

Or in general about a more flexible hive power system?

And do we become transferable/tradeable wallet creation tokens for the next hf? :)

What do you think about my proposal :D haha

Sorry I haven't red it yet

Or in general about a more flexible hive power system?

I am in favor, I think 13 weeks is too harsh, Some cool ideas are being floated around, I like the idea of a tax system.

And do we become transferable/tradeable wallet creation tokens for the next hf? :)

This has been discussed a few times, the position we are at is that if we allow people to send those tokens, they will become a tradeable token which will have value, which is what we want to avoid, we want to have as few people as possible claiming those tokens (and thus raising the RC price)

Thanks for the answer :) you should look over the proposal, it's about a dynamic power down.

About taxes, I'm not sure it would be a benefit. I would love a light, dynamic, and easy hive power system and not something heavy :D Also, Instant power-downs make the wallet recovery IMO useless. My proposal is about 13 week and 1 week timeframe, people can stake different amounts in it. So security is in the hand of the owner. I like the idea much more :)

Agree if they become a price, can slow down things. But price can be always super cheap if wallet creation cost would be cheaper too.

For example, if it would be 0,1 Hive wallet creation cost, the tokens would cost less most likely :D So there would be control parameters for traders.

I would use (if transferable) them to use them for donations, for projects I think they help hive and need them :)

Hi hi, My question is; Because you have $101 just because you posted, ask me a question and I'll answer it ... I have $4 in my last post and I tried harder :( HAHAHA, what do you think?
No offense.
Greetings!☺️

None taken, this post is over rewarded, it's mostly because people autovote me, so the content is irrelevant to the rewards. although short content like this is an exception, if i were to post content like this more often, I'm sure people would stop trusting me and voting me automatically.

Oh! excellent answer, you answer with great wisdom, how good it is to reach that level where you are, that people trust your work, congratulations.

Hopefully my friend @howo votes more often for me haha. By the way, thanks for viewing my post and for your support! Have a nice day.🤗⛅

Hi. I am a newbie here to Hive. So I created an account on leofinance using my twitter and then ended up creating a hive account liked to hive extension wallet. Now i want to link my leofinnace to same hive extension wallet because of the username. Is there a way? Would appreciate you helping out if you know

I actually don't know how leofinance works, I never took the time to look at it.

I am only getting lost in this whole hive space. Thanks for replying though.

Yes, there's a way. I would recommend joining the leofinance discord, there are people there who can help you with that. Here's a link to the discord: https://discord.gg/AKxzn9AF

Why do noses run but feet smell? WHY?

  • How did you come to the blockchain?
  • How can I find your support in my profile? I have been looking for it for several days. Greetings.

How did you come to the blockchain?

I...Actually kind of forgot how I found steem, I think I must have stumbled upon it and liked the idea of blogging where the incentives are given by a chain instead of ads etc.

How can I find your support in my profile? I have been looking for it for several days. Greetings.

I don't vote myself, I trail a few trusted curators like @ocd, make your post worthwhile to get a vote from them and you'll get a vote for me :)

How does it feel to be a developer, see I make music I recently wrote a paper and part of it was a discussion on how John Romero described programming as “logic-based creativity" and am genuinely interested as to how day to day do you get that same feeling that an artist would making painting, whilst developing? Big love!
H

“logic-based creativity" is a great way to put it, there are a lot of ways to solve the same problem and so you need a lot of creativity to come up with a good solution. I'm not an artist so I can't really speak of the difference between the two. but yes day to day it can be some very uncreative work where it's a simple "take block A, and put it in block B", other days it can be "we need to find an elegant to this problem" and this is where the true creativity lies.

So yeah I feel really creative when doing it, and the drawback is that it then requires a lot of concentration to do it hence why these kind of comics are common:

Thats brilliant! It really is how you say, I recently experimented with some styleGAN a.i and I realised that coding really is one of the most purest art forms out there!

Apple or Android... :OD

Android ! Although I've been starting to like apple lately with their strides of privacy focused changes.

I am an Android man too, although you have a very good point, I have been looking at the stuff they have been implementing and proposing on privacy and it is very good!

Is there anything that you miss from "STEEM times" or are you happy with how HIVE blockchain has developed and established itself?

What happened to exxp? his discord is a desert and there seems to be no more updates ;(

Initially I came to steem to do tutorials and such (if you look at my eeeeeeeeearly blogging you'll see it's mostly tutorials and stuff).

And the line was "how to xxxx" I wanted "howto" but it was taken, so I removed the "t" and it became howo :p

It would need to be implemented at the hivemind level or front end, both are feasible and not too hard.
